Pierre Peters Cuvee de Reserve Brut NV MagnumBased on the 2019 vintage and disgorged this year with four grams per liter dosage, Péters's NV Brut Blanc de Blancs Grande Réserve wafts from the glass with aromas of peaches, pastry cream, dried fruits, citrus oil and white flowers. Medium to full-bodied, pillowy and vinous, it's racy and concentrated, with a chiseled profile and a long, saline finish. The fine base vintage marks this out as a particular success. WILLIAM KELLEY, Wine Advocate
The NV Brut Cuvée de Réserve Grand Cru is open, effusive and a real delight to taste. Soaring aromatics and soft curves give this 2019-base Champagne tons of sheer appeal. Apricot, tangerine peel, spice and dried flowers abound in this racy, open-knit Champagne. The Cuvée de Réserve is rarely this charming at this stage. ANTONIO GALLONI, Vinous.com

Egly-Ouriet Les Vignes de VrignyAs always, this is 100% Pinot Meunier from a single 40-year-old, south facing vineyard in Vrigny, a commune located on the Petite Montagne de Reims (very close to Gueux, where Jérôme Prévost is based). Straight Pinot Meunier remains a rarity in Champagne and in Egly’s hands it is something truly unique. Low yields, old vines and ripe fruit make this one of the most intense, layered and opulent Meunier wines kicking around. Bottled without filtration, the dosage for this bottling was a tiny one gram per litre.
Based on the 2018 vintage, Egly's newly disgorged NV Brut Premier Cru Les Vignes de Vrigny bursts with aromas of white peach, crisp orchard fruit, apple blossom and wet stones. Medium to full-bodied, ample and vibrant, with a pure, seamless profile and a precise, saline finish, it's an immensely charming wine produced from Pinot Meunier vinified in tank. Guigal Cote Rotie La Turque 2013
According to the Guigal's, the 2013 Cote Rotie La Turque has a similar level of dry extract to the 2010 (after that, the 2012, followed by the 2011). Inky purple in color, with masculine notes of crushed rock, cracked pepper, bacon fat, scorched earth and concentrated dark fruits, it has a stacked mid-palate, but is certainly holding things closer to the vest than either the 2011 or 2012. It has a classic style and I suspect will require a decade of cellaring to become approachable. (98) JEB DUNNUCK

Troplong Mondot 2018The 2018 Troplong Mondot will take readers who haven't tasted these wines in a few years aback. Stunning in its aromatic presence, the 2018 is silky, medium-in body and super-refined. Once again, I am blown away by the wine's total sense of precision. The Cabernets are only 15% of the blend, and yet the 2018 is so strongly marked by floral and savory accents. Sweet red cherry, blood orange, mint, rose petal and lavender all build in the glass. Guigal Cote Rotie La Turque 2016Inky magenta. Candied cherry, blackcurrant, exotic spices, violet oil and a hint of olive on the powerfully scented nose. Velvety, seamless and alluringly sweet, offering palate-staining, mineral-laced black/blue fruit preserve, floral pastille, smoky bacon and spicecake flavors that open up steadily on the back half. Displays sharp delineation and a resonating floral note on a strikingly long finish that's framed by plush, rounded tannins. (97) JOSH RAYNOLDS
The 2016 Cote Rôtie Lads Turque is another amazing wine. This early in its élévage, it’s showing hints of vanilla and pencil shavings, but those underscore sexy, seductive notes of raspberries and spice, then add darker notes of grilled beef and espresso. Rizzi Barbaresco Nervo Fondetta 2017Rose, violet and perfumed berry aromas lead the nose followed by whiffs of camphor and culinary spice. Fresh acidity keeps it impeccably balanced. Drink 2022–2032. (95) KERRIN O'KEEFE, www.wineentusiast.com
The south-facing Nervo vineyard is located at an altitude of over 300 metres, which may account for its elegance. Ernesto Dellapiana and his son Enrico produce wines with a light touch, and their Nervo is aged in concrete tanks as well as casks. Primitivo Quiles Vermouth Rojo 1L
A style first made by the Greeks in the time of Hippocrates, and flavoured by the Italian herb of the same name Vermouth. Primitivo Quiles have made this wine since the 1920s. It's bottled at 15% alcohol, which is 3% natural from fermentation, and 12% of fortification. 9 degrees of potential alcohol are unfermented, realising 150g/l of residual sugar. The wine base is Moscatel, flavoured with aromatic natural herbs - wormwood, sage, fennel, ginger, cardamom, and clove. This version is called 'Rojo' as the use of the Arrope (cooked sweet must) gives the vermouth a reddish hue. The Arrope also contributes to the sweetness of the wine.
Bittersweet, soft and gently herbal with kola bitterness and perfume at back after a nice soft fruit winey middle. There's some fruit succulence, some tannin chew, and a textural progress from stony, through nutty to bitters. Great served straight up on tons of ice with citrus slices.

Algueira Brandan 2017This crystalline, fleshy Godello comes from a terraced vineyard that has been painstakingly restored by Algueira's Fernando González. This vineyard lies on the cooler, north facing Orense bank of the River Sil, the opposite side to most of Algueira's holdings. Here the 30 to 80 year old vines are rooted in the losa (schist) soils of the Amandi gorge. The name of the wine pays tribute to the Celtic ancestry of the region by the way (Brandan was a Celtic warlord who originally settled the area). Rive Droite Rive Gauche Cotes du Rhone 2020Rive Droite Rive Gauche simply means right bank, left bank and the name derives from fruit for the wine being sourced from both sides of the river - the grenache coming mainly from the left (gauche) and the Syrah from the village of Daumazan (on the rive droite), near Tavel. It is also a French film starring the rotund wine-nut actor Gerard Depardieu - fun fact!
This is a lovely fresh and crunchy styled Rhone from our friends at Rive Droite. There is touch of thyme and bay over red spiced fruits, layered with a little bit of red liquorice. This is a medium bodied rendition with a pure core of raspberry, wild strawberry and splash of black berry fruit in the mix. Its lithe with a lovely fresh cut to the sweet fruits that makes this look wonderfully elegant and damn easy to like.

Domaine de Bellene Nuits St Georges Vieilles Vignes 2020
Notes of freshly turned earth, floral and underbrush add breadth to the various dark berry fruit scents. There is again excellent volume and mid-palate density to the sappy medium weight flavors that possess classic Nuits muscle though perhaps just a bit less rusticity than usual. This is really quite good and fashioned in a built-to-age style. BURGHOUND, www.burghound.com
As ever, this is one of Potel's best wines. It is quintessentially Nuits St Georges. Earth aromas lay next to red-moving-to-black fruits. Floral lift but it's more red petals than violets. The usual hint of dourness you love in Nuits. Red fruit attack, minerality and energy to burn with a more muscular texture than the Volnay. It's always a wine that starts to show it's true colours after five years. This is no different. Excellent. MICHAEL MCNAMARA, PWS

Dirupi Rosso di Valtellina Ole 2020One of the better versions of this wine I've seen. Bruised strawberry, crushed rose petals, mountain herbs and a consistent backbeat of liquorice and menthol waft out of the glass. Just bang on for the variety from this part of the world. That same band of brothers weave their way through the palate, carried along within a medium weight, sweet texture before powdery tannins carry the whole package to a satusfying end. La Boca Malbec 2020La Boca is sourced from vineyards in the Uco Valley, Argentina at elevations of up to 3500 metres. Purity and freshness is the key here with modern winemaking and very little oak to hide behind.
The high altitude vineyards lend a lovely lifted quality to the fruit on the nose and in the mouth.
Mulberry and black currant fruit give way to black spice and heady aromatics of violet that you don't often see. The well-established older vines yield wonderfully concentrated fruit at the core of the wine and the minimal fussing in the winemaking means that the pure fruits are allowed to shine. Plush and forward but with a lovely snap of acidity and round tannins that hold everything in check. Good stuff!

Ripe, plummy fruits leap from the glass followed up by violets, dried rose, gravel and something that reminds me of the perfect Sunday lamb roast. Yum. Louis Picalmelot Cremant de Bourgogne Brut Les Terroirs
Based in Rully and presided over by third-generation winemaker-proprietor Philippe Chautard, Maison Louis Picamelot produces some of the best sparkling wines in Burgundy. Forever in Champagne's shadow, few take Crémant de Bourgogne seriously. But what this Maison is doing is already impressive and well worth open-minded consumers' attention. WILLIAM KELLEY, Wine Advocate
Makes you smile this wine. There's a generosity of aromatic that leads you through baked pastry, fresh cut stonefruits and then an invogorating punch of crushed stone minerality puffs into view. It's kind of like a Champagne letting it's hair down on the palate as well, genrosity of well-defined fruit is edged with minerality and oyster shell while the fine bead cinches and tucks in the effusive edges. Its got enough in it for the serious-minded fizz drinker but is also playful and generous enough to keep you pulling it out of the fridge for pretth much any pcassion. MICHAEL MCNAMARAThis thing hits it out of the park in terms of delivering quality and value. It doesn’t hold back with packing in the flavour either. The fruit is present and accounted for, with a nice lick of minerality and some back end punch, but what is really striking is the yeasty, brioche, burnt toast mealy characters that immediately greet you as you take your first sniff. It has all the bells and whistles. As a Champagne nerd I love to see that in the wine, as distinctly different to my fetish for Grower Bubbles, give me some of that expressively yeasty goodness. Substantial length here too. This will be one hell of a crowd pleaser. ROSCOE

Louis Picamelot Cremant de Bourgogne Brut Les Terroirs Rose NVSiren song aromatics of strawberries and cream, a little tarragon and mineral and maybe a little vanilla lead you head first into the glass. So enticing and welcoming and it continues on the palate with the same ebullient fruit held within a soft and pillowy mousse creating an almost sensual decadent impression. Alongside that though is real energy and vigour elevating the fruit and spice (and a little sage) element in the wine. It's so beuatiuflly put together this wine and would leave a number of it's Champagne cousins for dead and ashamed of their pricing. Gorgeous sparkling. MICHAEL MCNAMARA
One of the crew called this “soft and mellow” I can see where that comes from, it certainly has a lovely mouth filling quality and all those billowing soft bubbles provide such a sensual cushioning effect, but the wine lacks nothing for racy energy either. I don't think its soft, I think it's lush!
Also, I love the fine chalkiness that punctuates the fruit. Like its BdB sibling the lights are flashing and the sirens are cranked up, they don’t shy away from the winemaking and let’s be honest, that’s what makes Champa… sparkling wines like this so exciting. Even with that distinct autolytic creaminess the wines overall impression is one of flirtatious elegance. It is my pick of the two, but only just, and it pips its sibling on refinement if not substance. ROSCOENVFrance358$55.00 As low as $49.50 -
Yann Chave Crozes Hermitage Le Rouvre 2020There's a pleasant little blackcurrant jam note on the nose here. Not as powerful as his cuvée classique, but a greater sense of finesse, balance and drinkability. Long finish. MATT WALLS, decanter.com
The bouquet brims with bright cassis fruit clad for now in smoky oak. The fruit pleases via a lingering coulis-style sweetness. Elio Grasso Barolo Ginestra Casa Mate 2018From a vineyard located across from Gavarini Chiniera, this is a slightly more robust and concentrated wine. The 2018 Barolo Ginestra Casa Maté sources its fruit from a position at a slightly lower elevation with a bigger component of clay in the soils. The south and southeast-facing hillside is also more open to the horizon. These conditions give the Ginestra Casa Maté a broad texture and rich flavors of black and purple fruits. The wine is compact with dense texture that will relax over the next 10 years of age. Production is 12,000 bottles. (95) MONICA LARNER, Wine Advocate2018NebbioloItaly457$270.00 As low as $243.00

Telmo Rodriguez Gaba do Xil Mencia 2019After devastating frost in 2017 and killer mildew in 2018, the vintage for the red 2019 Gaba do Xil Tinto from Valdeorras was healthier and the crop was good, save for some hail in specific vineyards during the summer. It was a ripe, healthy and balanced year. This is a young, unoaked Mencía with 13.44% alcohol that fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel, where it matured for 12 months before bottling. It's intensely aromatic and expressive, varietal and with the wild rusticity of the zone. The palate is medium-bodied, with very fine tannins and a soft mouthfeel. 96,000 bottles produced. Faiveley Gevrey Cazetiers 2017 1er
I always think this site suffers a little from the "Rousseau Effect" - not that Rousseau, the Domaine - in that it doesn't seem to be lavished with attention from the consumers as does its neighbour Clos St Jacques. Though the vineyards are, in my mind, potentially equal. In the right hands Cazetieres is a superb Premier Cru and is often one of the best wines produced at Faiveley.
Here the wood regimen is no longer subtle though it stops short of masking the beautifully layered aromas of plum, spice, dark currant and freshly turned earth. The highly energetic and delineated middle weight plus flavors exude noticeable minerality on the powerful and focused finish that displays outstanding depth and persistence. Moreover, the finish really fans out as it sits on the palate. "Sweet Spot, Outstanding" BURGHOUND
The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers comes from Faiveley's substantial four-hectare parcel. I find this has more gumption and detail than the Lavaux Saint-Jacques at the moment. The nose features layers of blackberry, raspberry and crushed stone aromas, and the sweet, candied palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannin. Blood orange and quince infuse the red fruit toward the finish. Excellent. NEAL MARTIN
Since the takeover of Domaine Dupont-Tisserandot, Faiveley now have 4ha of Cazetiers spread across numerous plots. Rich dense purple with a heady nose of riper fruit including some black notes. Juicy dark raspberry notes, well spread across the palate, a few minerals at the back. Love the aftertaste (95) JASPER MORRIS MW
Ooh, deep, aromatic, complex, oaked. Full but fresh, mobile, good but not excessive energy - it's a new barrel so there's some of that too - but this is really a great wine, textured, and delicious. A wall of finishing flavour. BILL NANSON2017Pinot noirFrance358$400.00 As low as $360.00 -
Gianfranco Alessandria Barbera d'Alba Vittoria 2019Showing more oak rendering and depth, the 2019 Barbera d'Alba Vittoria (with 4,500 bottles made) exhibits a much bigger and broader style compared to the estate's steel-aged Barbera. This wine sees 18 months in barrique, with about one-third new oak. The aging process serves to flesh out the dark fruit, dark cherry and plum. It creates a wine of bigger structure too, opening it up to more food-pairing possibilities, from meat lasagna to grilled steak. MONICA LARNER2019BarberaItaly457$75.00 As low as $67.50

Domaine de Bellene Bourgogne Rouge Maison Dieu Vieilles Vignes 2021A very pretty and highly expressive nose reflects notes of various red berries and plenty of earth character that can also be found on the supple, vibrant and delicious middleweight flavors that conclude in a mildly rustic if nicely persistent finale.
