Inflation Busters

Wines for the masses with masses of appeal. That’s the byline to this tasting. It's always a thrill finding that cracking bottle of wine that has plenty of appeal but doesn’t break the bank. Don’t get us wrong, we love drinking great Burgundy or Bordeaux but none of us here can afford to do that every day. And let’s be honest, it's pretty easy to find great wines for hundreds of dollars or more but doing the same on a budget doesn’t always yield results as easily.

So, with that in mind, we are putting together a tasting of stellar value wine that won’t hit your hip pocket but is going to put a smile on your face. These are wines that deliver serious quality and genuine interest. Wines that you can crack any day of the week without feeling guilty about blowing your budget while knocking the socks off your tastebuds and your inflation woes.

Whether it’s a bit of Netflix and chill, a cheeky little Sunday BBQ or just something to match with a bit of takeaway while you take a break from slaving over the stove this tasting will have you covered.

  2. Little Frances Eleventh House White Vermentino 2023
Little Frances Eleventh House White Vermentino 2023
Little Frances was established in 2012 by Aussie ex-pat Erin Frances Pooley, who set out to make the wines she loves to drink from Californian grapes. Enamoured with the nuance and intrigue of aged white wine (and missing Hunter Valley Semillon from home), Erin started Little Frances in 2012 with just 200 cases of Semillon from a high altitude vineyard in Northern California, farmed by the 3rd generation growers.

We knew of Erin with her work with one of our producers, Hobo Wine Co. Owner Kenny is a friend and mentor and we have been super excited to try her wines and needless to say we were not disappointed.

This blend is vermentino dominant with some aromatic components and textural support from pinot Gris & friulano all from the Apline Valleys, a region which Erin loves for the diversity of varietal selection and what that brings to the table. The trio get fermented in barrels and aged on their lees for a while.
    A beautiful co
mbination of zingy freshness, weight and texture. Erin has captured the pristine fruits in peek ripeness then judiciously and cleverly add nuance as well as light and shade to the final wines through throughtful winemaking.

This is a blend with grenache Blanc grown at the De Bortoli Melville's vineyard on the eastern edge of the Rutherglen region. The marsanne and roussanne are grown on the De Bortoli Shelley's Vineyard which is approximately 800m from the Melvilles Vineyard.

Picked in the cool of the morning and handled gently with non-oxidative winemaking techniques and cool temperatures at every stage. The wines were 100% fermented in stainless steel tanks to ensure they maintained all of their varietal freshness, crispness and great acidity.

The palate is fresh and crisp with a crunchy drinkability and textural mouth-filling palate. The blend has flavours of pears, apples, minerals and herbs, which follows onto the palate with a delicate richness and textured dry finish.
