Burgundy 2022 Tasting

Le fortunee- fruit is from 4 lots (1 in Bouzeron and 3 in Mercurey) Darker fruits, spice, blue and black fruit to the fore. Fleshy, ripe, pleasing pithy tannins, some nice warmth to the palate too. Bit of mid-pallet fruit push that is spiked with dark roast spice and earthy notes. Nice generosity but still snappy.

Domaine Buisson-Battault are consistent producers of first class Burgundy. Made by traditional methods, these wines really express the true characteristics of the region. JASPER MORRIS MW

100% Meursault fruit from two small lieu-dits (Les Clous Perrons and les Magnys) with vines dating back to 1951.
This is a baby Meursault by nature. All the fruit comes from Meursault with some lovely old vines adding intensity and complexity. A delicious overachiever, it lures you in with notes of white nectarines, honey and wet stones. There’s lovely depth to the fruit that’s lassoed together by a minerally tension and fine chewy quince-like phenolics on the finish. This is open and ready to devour, it’s an irresistible Bourgogne blanc. GABRIELLE POY

Attractively spicy aromas include those of green apple and plenty of citrus wisps. The racy, delicious, detailed and nicely textured flavors exude a subtle minerality on the mildly austere, refreshing and inviting finish. This isn't especially complex but it's so vibrant that one feels like drinking it. BURGHOUND

Hints of mineral reduction and Granny Smith apples add breadth to the citrus-infused aromas of pear. The caressing, delicious and vibrant flavors are not especially dense though the lightly stony finish is crisp and refreshing. To enjoy young. BURGHOUND

Ripe deeply pitched aromas include those of pungent earth, various dark berries and whiff of spice. The delicious, caressing and supple middleweight flavors possess a relatively refined texture for what this is though it contrasts with the slightly rustic finale...it is a quality Bourgogne. 2022 yielded a ripe and fruity, polished and approachable Bourgogne rouge from domaine vines, supple, plush and immediately engaging. I love the balance achieved, the fluidity on the palate, the seamless acids intermingled with very fine-grained tannins. Length is excellent. Very refined and sophisticated wine, one that delivers well above its humble appellation, and drinking well even now, though cellerable into the late '20s without concern. Lovely aromas of raspberry and dark cherry fruit laid over a faintly stony backbeat and gorgeous blue florals of violets. The palate is medium to full with demure but insistent attack of sweet cherry and spice overtones. Love the delineated flavours as it slides across the palate. Intensity of flavour without heft. I love the limestone drying quality in this wine and the mouth aromas that mark it as a Volnay through and through. MICHAEL MCNAMARA, PWS

The 2022 Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Le Clos du Village is ample and fleshy, bursting with aromas of peach, clear honey, buttery pastry and white flowers. Medium to full-bodied, seamless and pure, it's a pretty, charming white. WILLIAM KELLEY

The walls of the Clos make this an early ripener. Vines planted in 1997 but some which are on 161/49 need to be pulled out. Lemon and lime in colour. An attractive fresh nose, with a little bit of lime blossom. The palate has a delicious energy underpinned by the minerality of this site, it is generous but well balanced. Lovely wine. The 2022 Pernand-Vergelesses Les Vergelesses 1er Cru has a notably perfumed bouquet with redcurrant and raspberry fruit, wild heather and touches of potpourri. The palate is medium-bodied and very harmonious, with a fine bead of acidity and a degree of precision on the finish that does the appellation proud. Quality winemaking here—this comes highly recommended. NEAL MARTIN

From the part of this climat classified in premier cru, where the vines are also older and the soils shallower, Rapet's 2022 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Fourneaux exhibits aromas of dark berries, cherries, orange zest and petals, followed by a medium to full-bodied, velvety palate that's suave and lively. The same name but not the same soil, very stony here. A fine fresh mid purple. Altogether finer than the village wine with a racy quality through the middle of the raspberry fruit, the limestone seems much closer here. Medium length in the classy finish. JASPER MORRIS MW
