2021 German Riesling Showcase
Lightness and thrilling freshness paired with straightforwardness, bright clarity and enormous density at moderate alcohol levels: We can probably agree on this character for the 2021 white wines STEPHAN REINHARDT, Wine Advocate
After the last four warm years, this vintage is after a long time again a
"classic German year" The 2021 vintage promises very clear, filigree wines with
an extraordinary inner density and a wonderfully finesse-rich acidity.
CORNELIUS DONHOFF
In Germany, Riesling constitutes
around 20% of total plantings, but there is no doubt that it's responsible for
all its greatest wines. The best producers see their vines planted widely on
well-drained, south-facing slate-rich slopes. Here the exposure to sunlight, the
reflective soils and moderating influences of its many winding tributaries and
rivers bring riesling to it pinnacle expression.
The recent warmer
vintages in Germany have meant a slew of wonderfully ripe and exotic wines
hitting the market. 2021 has however bucked that trend and we love what has
landed. At the 'dry' end (think Kabinett & Trocken styles) 2021 looks to
have produced some absolutely wonderful wines that are shinning with pure, zesty
fruit, crystalline definition and excellent concentration. It's a combo that's
an absolute joy to drink young but will no doubt reward those who the will power
and patience to cellar their wines.
All in all, we are thrilled with what
we are seeing from the most recent releases and with selection of Germany's best
producers on show today we imagine you will be grinning from ear to ear once
you've made your way round.

Richter Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Kabinett 2021The 2021 Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Kabinett offers a clear, precise and pure, lovely slate-driven bouquet with citric fruit and some cassis and gooseberry aromas. Crystalline, linear and fresh on the palate, this is an elegant, lush and silky-textured, precise and almost sharp but also round and finely sweet Kabinett from the Himmelreich that shows red and black currant notes on the aftertaste. A gorgeous Kabinett that has to be aged for 10-15 years. Sourced from 80-year-old vines on pure gray slate. Bottled with a spectacular total acidity of 12 grams per liter, but you don't feel the grams of acidity; and believe me, it's serious but balanced by extract and almost 50 grams per liter of residual sugar. 7.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in July 2022. STEPHAN REINHARDT, The Wine
This vineyard site is renowned for charming wines and this has some appley charm in the nose, but there’s also impressive depth and structure behind it. Stunning Amalfi-lemon freshness at the very long and vibrant finish, which is almost dry. Excellent aging potential. Drink or hold. JAMES SUCKLING2021RieslingGermany442$55.00 As low as $49.50
