Millton New Releases 2023
Neil Beckett's, "1001 wines to drink before you die" (Published by Penguin in 2008).
On the east coast of the North Island of New Zealand, we find ourselves in Gisborne, where James and Annie Millton grow some of the country's most distinguished and flavoursome wines that each speak of integrity and the place they are grown.
The Millton vineyard was established in 1984 after James and Annie Millton returned from working and travelling around some of Europe's top wine regions, learning the ropes in Champagne, Bordeaux and Rheinhessan. When developing their vineyard, wine quality and sustainability were forefront. James and Annie's objective is always to make the best wines possible and leave the land in a better place than it was to begin with. They were the first producers in the southern hemisphere to farm biodynamically, this coupled with meticulous attention to detail provides deeply concentrated and exciting wines.
Millton Vineyard has been producing some of the world's best Chenin Blanc wines outside of the Loire Valley for decades and it is The Wine that put Appellation Gisborne on the fine wine map, winning awards, and trophies both in New Zealand and overseas from the get-go. The success of this wine, although granted, has given their other wines less of a spotlight. Rest assured, they step up to the mark and deliver the goods.
We tasted the range with Annie a couple of weeks ago. Impressive, inspiring, and captivating. Annie and the wines. The combination of intensity and pure varietal fruit expression seen in every wine with trademark electric acidity, their freshness and straight-up deliciousness cannot be overstated.
The Millton Vineyard is divided into individual plots (Opou, Te Arai and the Clos de St. Anne)
