Based on the 2019 vintage and disgorged this year with four grams per liter dosage, Péters's NV Brut Blanc de Blancs Grande Réserve wafts from the glass with aromas of peaches, pastry cream, dried fruits, citrus oil and white flowers. Medium to full-bodied, pillowy and vinous, it's racy and concentrated, with a chiseled profile and a long, saline finish. The fine base vintage marks this out as a particular success. The NV Brut Cuvée de Réserve Grand Cru is open, effusive and a real delight to taste. Soaring aromatics and soft curves give this 2019-base Champagne tons of sheer appeal. Pale gold. Fresh peach, pear and nectarine on the nose, with a complicating note of white flowers. Bouzy and Ambonnay are the epicentre of pinot noir in Champagne, and the Clouet family is the priviledged custodian of eight hectares of estate vines in the best middle slopes of both villages.  These are rich and concentrated expressions of pinot noir, wines of deep complexity, multi faceted interest and engaging character, yet with remarkable restraint and sense of control.  Recent tastings confirm my impression that this small and relatively unknown grower ranks high among Champagne's finest practitioners of pinot noir - and expresses one of the best value of all.

Third generation vignerons, the Pinons have 25 hectares in Vernou-sur-Brenne. 50% of their production is sparkling and 50% still wine with nothing sold off to the négoce.

We have long loved the wines of Damien Pinon and when we first tried this little number we were pretty stoked. Great sparkling Loire is such a treat. It captures all that zingy, racy, pure goodness of chenin blanc while bringing the added dimension of bubbles into the equation. They seem like a perfect partnership and we absolutely love this wine.

Quince and granny smith, talcum powder, quartyz spice and a gently honeysuckle, floral element that floats deliciously around in the background. Its pure and precise but fills out across the palate with each sip. Sometimes, Loire Sparkling is a little too lean  but this deliver plenty of fruit at the same time to balance of the fine, minerally acidity.

Idlewild's 2015 Arneis Fox Hill Vineyard is another deep, expressive wine. Varietal aromatics open up first, followed by generous orchard fruit, white peach and floral notes. Drink this inviting Arneis over the next few years. ANTONIO GALLONI

Inky blue and purplish fruit, lavender, sage, cloves and mocha run through the 2012 Petite Sirah Howell Mountain. Super-ripe, voluptuous and sensual, the 2012 will drink well with minimal cellaring. ANTONIO GALLONI

Jean-Francois describes pinot noir as entering a phase he dubs 'The Whirlwind' in its sixth year of maturation. The rest of his inspiration is impossible to put into words, but clicking on 'Cuvee Design Specification' on his website will put you on the right trajectory. For the exuberance of Bouzy pinot noir and not inconsiderable age, the freshness packed into this cuvee is something to behold. Grapefruit tang meets crunchy red apple fruit, contrasting the generosity and spice of the village and the tension of zero dosage. Get on board. Tyson Stelzer

According to the Guigal's, the 2013 Cote Rotie La Turque has a similar level of dry extract to the 2010 (after that, the 2012, followed by the 2011). Inky purple in color, with masculine notes of crushed rock, cracked pepper, bacon fat, scorched earth and concentrated dark fruits, it has a stacked mid-palate, but is certainly holding things closer to the vest than either the 2011 or 2012. It has a classic style and I suspect will require a decade of cellaring to become approachable. (98) JEB DUNNUCK

The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon is dense, pliant and wonderfully expressive. Ric Forman's wines are always on the restrained side, but the 2015 packs a good bit of punch. Sweet red cherry, raspberry, sage, mint, and rose petal overtones all add to the wine's precision and nuance. In 2015, Forman took in fruit from Thorevilos, which he co-manages with David Abreu, but ultimately decided to add that juice to the Cabernet Sauvignon rather than bottle it separately. Dollops of Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec round out the blend. This is one of the classiest wines of the vintage. ANTONIO GALLONI

Proprietor Sam Bilbro has spent virtually a lifetime around wine. His family owns Marietta, while brothers Jake and Scot are behind the reborn Limerick Lane. At Idlewild, Sam Bilbro focuses on Italian and other less well-known varieties. In addition to these wines, I also tasted the, Arneis Fox Hill Vineyard, Vin Gris Dry Creek Valley and Grenache Gris Gibson Ranch. Having had a relationship with the Bilbro family as importers of the Marietta wines some years ago we were delighted to find youngest son, Sam, was behind this new venture, Idlewild. In many ways the wines are the anitpathy of what so many believe Californian wines are supposed to be. Hunting out heritage stands of Italian and Rhone varietals (mostly in Mendocino County) Bilbro makes extremely interesting wines characterised by texture, savouriness and subtlety. Skin contact is a part of the wines as is a relatively non-interventionist approach; both indicative of the preferences of the younger brigade of Calfornia producers. PWS

The 2017 White The Bee Flora & Fauna, is a classy, polished wine to drink now and over the next few years. Green pear, mint, white flowers and light tropical overtones all grace this very pretty, expressive wine. The Muscat in particular adds an attractive aromatic flair. ANTONIO GALLONI

The 2017 Arneis Fox Hill Vineyard is very pretty. Aromatic and pliant, with lovely orchard fruit, chamomile, almond and dried flower notes, the 2017 has a lot to offer. There is a lovely element of softness that emerges with time in the glass and adds quite a bit of character. ANTONIO GALLONI

The 2015 Dominio Do Bibei blew my mind. It's is a blend of 80% Brancellao and 20% Mouratón from different vineyards, and it has a super elegant, aromatic and ethereal profile within the power and earthy character of the wines from the zone. This fermented and aged in barrels and had an extra élevage in 1,500-liter oak foudre, but the oak is perfectly and neatly folded into the wine, which is nuanced perfumed and really captivating. The palate also reveals great harmony and balance, good freshness and very fine tannins, and the way all of the elements seem to complement each other suggests that this is going to continue evolving slowly in bottle. A great Ribeira Sacra expressing the character through the traditional varieties of yesteryear. 2,021 bottles were filled in July 2017. LUIS GUTIERREZ

The 2018 Troplong Mondot will take readers who haven't tasted these wines in a few years aback. Stunning in its aromatic presence, the 2018 is silky, medium-in body and super-refined. Once again, I am blown away by the wine's total sense of precision. The Cabernets are only 15% of the blend, and yet the 2018 is so strongly marked by floral and savory accents. Sweet red cherry, blood orange, mint, rose petal and lavender all build in the glass. The 2018 is regal, refined and absolutely exquisite. 97 ANTONIO GALLONI

An overtly floral-suffused nose displays a lovely array of spice elements on the essence of red berry fruit aromas. I very much like the mid-palate mouthfeel of the sappy medium-bodied flavors that terminate in a powerful, rustic and mocha-inflected finish. This is quite a robust Vosne villages that will require at least some patience. BURGHOUND

Always one of the wines of the range. Exhibits all the kirsch cherry and silken texture of a classic Vosne with the addition of some nice Asian spice coming from the 50% whole cluster. MICHAEL McNAMARA

A fresh, pure and layered nose consists of liqueur-like dark berry fruit, plum, violet, earth and touches of spice. There is excellent richness to the slightly more refined medium weight flavors that coat the palate with dry extract where the supporting structure arrives all at once on the grippy and mildly drying finish. I suspect that this will round into form once the sulfur addition is more completely integrated. BURGHOUND

I haven't always been the biggest fan of Nicolas' version of Chaignots - although I love the vineyard with its the nod to the "silk" of Vosne a nice counterpoint to the rusticity of Nuits. This year this is a beautiful example and the best I've seen from him. MICHAEL McNAMARA

Ric Forman's 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is all class. The 2016 won't be ready to drink for at least another few years, but it is already super attractive, and also very typical of Ric Forman's style. The flagship 2018 Galatrona, 100% Merlot, is very beautiful. Silky tannins wrap around a core of Merlot fruit. I am struck by how elegant the 2018 is, as Galatrona is so often a wine of impact. Black cherry, chocolate, game, leather, licorice and spice give the 2018 a good bit of nuance. This is an especially understated, refined edition of Galatrona. (96) ANTONIO GALLONI, Vinous

Inky magenta. Candied cherry, blackcurrant, exotic spices, violet oil and a hint of olive on the powerfully scented nose. Velvety, seamless and alluringly sweet, offering palate-staining, mineral-laced black/blue fruit preserve, floral pastille, smoky bacon and spicecake flavors that open up steadily on the back half. Displays sharp delineation and a resonating floral note on a strikingly long finish that's framed by plush, rounded tannins. (97) JOSH RAYNOLDS

The 2016 Cote Rôtie Lads Turque is another amazing wine. This early in its élévage, it’s showing hints of vanilla and pencil shavings, but those underscore sexy, seductive notes of raspberries and spice, then add darker notes of grilled beef and espresso. This silky, immensely attractive wine could challenge the potentially perfect 2015 in another year or two. (97 -99) JOE CZERWINSKI

Damask rose, orange peel and pith and juicy peach make for an attractive combination on the nose of this wine. The palate has gentle sweetness that is countered by pleasant, phenolic bitterness that lends shape to this off-dry, spicy, mellow wine. Yes it is generous, but all that zesty pithiness makes the wine intriguing. The off-dry finish is textured. WINE ENTHUSIAST

This wine is made from all the very old Gewurztraminer vines planted in the Turckheim/Herrenweg vineyards. Some of these vineyards are also located in the richest part of the valley floor, where the gravels are mixed with by richer silt. With deeper roots and richer soils available to them, these vines didn't suffer from drought. The ripeness progressed quickly in 2018. Gewurztraminer is a wine that can surprisingly ferment fast, which is handy, as a higher pH would expose these wines to more problems if the fermentation would last too long. The 2018 grapes were beautiful and healthy.

Bright yellow colour. The nose is classic with an expressive and strong expressive floral character, nice spices, yet delicate and complex. The palate is harmonious, there is a slight roundness well balanced by ripe tannins. Nice length, serious finish with a fresh aftertaste. Beautiful classic Gewurztraminer. ZIND HUMBRECHT

Translucent yellow. Vibrant, mineral-accented citrus and orchard fruit aromas are complemented by suggestions of fennel and jasmine. Juicy and focused on the palate, offering concentrated pear, tangerine and anise flavors that pick up a nervy mineral flourish with air. The south-facing Nervo vineyard is located at an altitude of over 300 metres, which may account for its elegance. Ernesto Dellapiana and his son Enrico produce wines with a light touch, and their Nervo is aged in concrete tanks as well as casks. The red-fruit nose is intense and pure, and the attack supple and silky. There's a taut structure here, and fine acidity that keeps it lively and peppery. This wine is marked by energy, stylishness, and persistence. STEPHEN BROOK, Decanter

These incredible amaro's are produced by Michele Faro of Pietradolce in Sicily. The Faro family have grown Sicilian citrus on the slopes of Mount Etna for generations.

The Limone contains lemon peel, gentian, cinchona, clove, oregano, elderflower, cinnamon and a range of secret family ingredients.

Zind Humbrecht is one of the unquestioned kings of aromatic whites. His ceaseless drive to create the world's greatest examples of his varieties is nothing short of remarkable as are the resulting offerings. A devoted proponent of Biodynamics, a gifted presenter and communicator and a towering figure of modern wine, the first Frenchman to be awarded the MW (International Master of Wine) he has justifiably earned his reputation as one of the legends of modern wine.

The Tuckheim Range is the value tier and represents classic Alsatian whites from a regional blend of grapes as well as estate fruit. These vineyards are grown on the valley floor, where the glacial debris of rolled stones, granite and gneiss has settled over the aeons. Wine from these soils tends to have a lovely fruit profile underpinned with a stoney-mineral tension that screams 'drink me' and marks the wines with the typical mineral streak of Alsace.

Forman's 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon is fabulous. Rich and beautifully layered in the glass, the 2017 has gorgeous depth and a touch of exoticism that is so appealing. Ripe red berry fruit, floral overtones and a touch of spice are all laced together. Just bottled, the 2017 is super impressive, even in the early going. This is an especially racy style for Ric Forman, and yet he clearly got every ounce of potential out of the year. 95 + ANTONIO GALLONI

Very ripe yet reasonably fresh aromas slowly reveal nuances of cassis, red cherry and a whiff of wood. The earthy and vibrant medium weight flavors possess excellent density, indeed even opulence, while managing to remain relatively refined on the ever-so-slightly warm and austere finale. Lovely and firm enough to reward 12 to 15 years of cellaring.

The 2017 Barolo EnPiasì is such a pleasure to taste. A whole range of floral and savory nuances open first, suggesting the presence of whole clusters, even though the wine is made entirely from grapes that have been destemmed by hand. Silky, nuanced and beautifully persistent in the glass, the 2017 is a Barolo of pure and total finesse. I would prefer to drink it over the next 10-15 years, a bit of youthful Nebbiolo tannin notwithstanding, as it would be a shame to miss out on the extraordinary purity of fruit that is present at this stage. There are only a select few, perfect locations, to grow great wine on this big blue orb of ours and those are between 30 and 50 degrees north and south latitudes. Those regions need to provide just the right temperature, humidity, heat and climate to grow high quality grapes. We are absolutely spoilt for choice when it comes to the northern reaches with the whole of Europe at our disposal, but travel further south and things are a little different.

While New Zealand and Tasmania provide us with plenty of choices (and we would be remiss not to include them) the southern reaches sitting on and just below the 40 degrees latitude offer a up a wholy unique drinking experience.

While grapes like riesling, cabernet and pinot noir are familiar to us, a number of the wines in this months pack aren't seen so regularly on your local wines list or on the shelves of your corner wine store. From Malbec's in Argentina to the infamous Pinotage and the more classic varietals like Chenin in South Africa this is an exploration of all that is good in these great southern lands of ours.

Where do we start with such an awesome selection of interesting wine? It's hard to decide we might just do a quick run down by country.

South America is relatively new to the wine scene but has come along in leap and bounds. WE start with a couple of classics with the Finca Los Moras Malbec and the Santa Ana Cabernet. These are text book varietal wines with plenty to love in their up-front fruit and modern styling. For something a little different we through in the Bouchon pais. For those who do not know, Pais is an old variety that is Chile's answer to pinot noir. With a little more bite and a wild flourish this a great introduction to this fascinating wine.

Closer to home in New Zealand we have few classic drops with the Palliser Estate Pencarrow pinot. A wine you would be hard pressed to find with the structure, concentration and complexity at the same price. Off to Hawkes Bay for some stonking Chardonnay from Bilancia fame and some of the world most underrated syrah from stars Te Mata. What a treat!

Just in our backyard, Tassie continues to pump out some of the best wine in the country and while we would never miss out on showcasing another great pinot there is some real winners with pinot gris and riesling on the rise. The Moores Hill gris is a freat example of textural and vibrant gris from the Apple Isle with the Riversdale riesling hot on its tale.

And for something a little different we have got the latest release Willie Smiths Cider. This is an absolute belter, and we couldn't help but included it once we were told it had been released. Perfect timing! We will take that one!

Last, and something we don't see much in Aus is a cracking selection of wines from South Africa. Long-term customers may recognise some of these wines and as far as we are concerned, they are some of the best modern day Cape wines to make it over. The Bare Bones cinsault is a zippy red full of energy while the Winery of Good Hope pinotage is a juicy and fun take on this classic red variety,

And what would a selection of wine from South Africa be without a chenin blanc. The Secateurs is clean and crunchy with a plush fruit profile that is cleaned up by chenin's zippy acidity.
All in al a pretty awesome and exciting collection of stellar wines from the great south!

Balcombe is the brain-child of Barney Flanders and Cam Marshal. A coastal inspired Gin from there home in the Mornington Peninsula. Barney is the man behind Garagiste Vitners and together with Cam have created one of Australia's best and most unique gin's.

Balcombe is composed from 20 different botanicals and contains unique ingredients like foraged Samphire, Saltbush, Kelp, Wild Fennel, and Wild Fennel Pollen from the Mornington Peninsula to give a true coastal flavour.

We have also included Java Long Pepper, Blood Orange, Lemon Verbena, two types of Coriander and Ginger for complexity with plenty of Juniper to balance all of those big coastal flavours.

We prefer to serve Balcombe with a drier tonic as the iodine and saline character tends to enhance the tonic's sweetness so a pair-up with Strangelove's Light Tonic is a match made in heaven.

It's a battle royal of North vs South for our second premium pack where the only winner is going to be you! From the warm southern coast to the rolling hills of the verdant north, Italy's multitude of breathtaking terroir and incredible indigenous varieties is one to impress.

This is an exciting little pack, something a little different with some cracking little wines brand new to the country, some Prince Wine Store classics and a couple of wines, we know, you will be happily and wonderfully surprised by.

From the north we start with one of the best new wines we have seen in a while. The Battiselle le Battiselle Soave is such a beautiful Soave. This is the second vintage of this to hit our shores and we missed the tiny allocation last time but certainly won't this time. You are in for a treat as we think this is one of best Soave's, if not, best white wine from Italy in some time.

Next up is the La Dama Vini Superiore. A nuanced and pretty style Valpolicella from a modern and thoughtful producer. Also relatively new to the country this see's the skins of the Amarone ferment added to the Valpolicella to add an extra depth and richness that you do not normally see from the Classico versions. 

Last is the king of red wine in Italy and the Mauro Veglio Barolo Gattera. Both the vineyard and the vintage favour this release with so much immediate appeal straight our of the gate. Veglio is turning back the use of oak and we are reaping the benefits for the change in tack. All the generosity is still there of the house style but with even more clarity and verve.

From the south we start with the Petila Greco di Tufo. This is another family estate that has only relatively recently started to bottle under their own label. This come from an elevated plot of old vines and see's some extended ageing and subtle barrel work. The zingy greco grape keeps it liveliness while the extra time in bottle has built and layered the wine.

We would be hard pressed not to include an Etna Rosso in the pack and we are so lucky that our choices here in Aus are so exceptional.  Giuseppe Tornatore spent much of the early 2000s sourcing some of the regions best plots which has proved to be an insightful move with, now some of the most highly sought after vineyards in his holding and what seems like an unstoppable thirst for his wines.

The last wine of the list is a real treat and was such a surprise for us in a recent tasting. This hails from foothills of Mt Vesuvias and in fact the vineyards overlook the famous ruins of Pompei. Unsurprisingly the wine reflects in origins and is an intriguing blend of piedirosso and aglianico that greets you with its smokey and charred fruit overlayed with dried and broody fruits.

We are stoked to introduce two relative newcomers to the non-alcoholic drink's scene. Both have been innovators in their fields and their products have caused a huge splash in the scene.

Just down the road the crew at Brunswick Aces have been just as busy with their incredible selection of sapir's or non-alcoholic gins.

The processes used to make sapiir is a more traditional approach to and the methods used are centuries old, originating in the early distillation work developed across Europe and the Middle East around the 17th Century.

Books such as "the art of distillation" by John French, published in London in 1651, clearly outline many of the processes still used today to extract the delicate aromatic elements of botanicals used to give sapiir its unique flavour profiles.

Both the Gins and Sapir's are lovingly hand-crafted at their distillery and tasting room in Brunswick with each botanicals individually extracted and then finally blended to form the highest quality product. The range consists of the Hearts and Spades currently but watch out for more as these local heroes continue to grow.

THE NEGRONI
It was 1919, and Count Camillo Negroni decided his favourite cocktail the Americano needed a little something extra. He swapped out the soda water for gin and thus the Negroni was born. This classic aperitif may look like a sweet, Italian orange treat, but like a gate-crashing pack of weasels - it’s crafty, a little bitter and full of surprises.
