Il Dolce Far Niente Summer Fest. Sydney

While Rosé was once considered a little out of fashion it has come back with full force thanks to the efforts of quality conscious producers focusing on dryer, textural styles like those seen from its spiritual home in Provence. It has taken a firm foothold in the psyche of savvy wine drinkers worldwide and the demand for it has grown exponentially every year. Even with an incredible selection like we are seeing today its barely a drop in the ocean of what's available in the market now.

In Australia the move towards dryer, fresher styles and away from the lolly water, fruit bombs of the past have been thoroughly embraced by consumers. We believe this is the perfect style for drinking over the hot Australian summer and with Rosè from every region and from an incredibly diverse selection of varieties it is an exciting time to be drinking locally indeed.

Of course, the traditional Rosé of Provence still sits atop the throne with its slippery palate, textural savoury edge combined with fresh cut, juicy red fruits that make it the perfect combo for summer sipping. Regions like Bandol and those further west incorporate an even more structured style again with grenache giving way to the broodier mourvedre based wines of the region. And, while the Mediterranean south dominates our hearts and minds the Rhone, Burgundy and Loire are hot on its heels.

Spain takes its lead from Provence, with styles generally best consumed in their youth with grenache and tempranillo based rosato's featuring heavily. At the same time Italy is hitting its stride with textural and forward styles from across the country and based around stalwart varietals like sangiovese and nebbiolo as well as a range of other native grapes from its warmer southern coasts.

Add to that a range of perfect pink from across the globe and there is no better time to be joining the Rosè revolution.

  7. Girolamo Russo Nerina Etna Bianco 2024
Girolamo Russo Nerina Etna Bianco 2024

The 2024 Etna Bianco Nerina is thoroughly flavoursome with lemon zest complemented by rosemary and ginger. It is reassuringly round and smooth with sweet green melon and herbal tones carried by a fresh acidity. The palate is completely refreshed, finishing clean and crisp, while the pretty inner flowers fade slowly on the finish. ERIC GUIDO

An intense, lively and aromatic wine full of broom flowers, showing grapefruit, straw and apples. It has a fruit sweetness, crisp acidity and a light to medium body. The lush palate has good length and a toasty finish. JAMES SUCKLING

Giuseppe Russo's Nerina in 2024 harnesses the vintage to put its aromatics front and centre (helped along by the inclusion of Inzolia). White peach, apple, jasmine, white grapefruit and a touch of dried mango are tied together by wisps of volcanic smoke and rocky salinity. What more do you want?! JAMES BUTTON, decanter.com

  9. Podere 414 Grechetto IGT 'Costa Ovest' 2024
Podere 414 Grechetto IGT 'Costa Ovest' 2024
Podere 414 was the plot number allocated to this piece of land by in the 1960’s, during the division and redistribution by the government of much of the Maremma to farmers. These farmers inherited totally wild and uncontaminated lands composed mainly of forests and pastures and adopted an almost exclusively subsistence farming model.

In 1998 Simone, together with wife Mara, purchased the plot known as 414 and set about planting the varieties most suitable to the character of Maremma to produce a wine that is indisputably Mediterranean in character (generous in colour, aroma and body) without losing its elegance.

  17. Girolamo Russo 'A Rina' Etna Rosso 2024
Girolamo Russo 'A Rina' Etna Rosso 2024

À Rina is Giuseppe Russo's masterpiece of harmony - a composition of three noble contrade: San Lorenzo with its windswept heights, the intimate Feudo and the powerful Calderara Sottana. Ninety per cent Nerello Mascalese is combined with ten per cent Nerello Cappuccio to create a wine that is far more than the sum of its parts. Giuseppe does not call it an entry-level wine, but rather a "melody of three terroirs that harmonise with each other".

In the glass, ruby red elegance with a garnet sheen, while the bouquet tells a sensual journey through Etna's soul: Wild strawberries and cherries with notes of wild sage, damp concrete and a hint of mandarin. All the magic of volcanic minerality unfolds on the palate - fresh and complex, with silky tannins and that salty depth that only centuries-old lava soil can give. Giuseppe's father would be proud of his son. SUPERIORE.DE
