Francois Carillon 2023 Offer

Usually coming from 8 plots, but as François has made more parcellaire bottlings in 2023 there are just 6 this year. Mid lemon yellow, slightly toasty. Clearly stricter after the Chassagnes. Nicely balanced, with medium generosity and length. The class shows at the finish, with precision. JASPER MORRIS MW

A deft but not imperceptible application of wood surrounds the ripe and vaguely exotic aromas of white peach, poached pear and pretty acacia wisps. Here too the mouthfeel of the medium-bodied flavors is plush, round and generous, indeed almost thick, while exhibiting solid length on the sappy finish BURGHOUND

Four plots make up 2ha, old vines, mid lemon yellow, with a bit of nervous limestone tension, then a sinewy yet supple texture. A little more generous and less mineral than the Murgers Dents de Chien. I cannot separate them in quality only in style. (95) JASPER MORRIS MW

A slightly more elegant nose freely reveals its aromas of white peach, acacia, carnation and discreet petrol wisps. The enveloping and seductively textured medium weight flavors are both generous and round before culminating a youthfully austere, balanced and lingering finish BURGHOUND

Pale colour, with a discreet intensity. Becomes more floral, a little bit of honeysuckle. The fruit flows very evenly across the palate, on the cusp between white and yellow, with a lovely juicy yet also mineral finish. Very stylish. (95) JASPER MORRIS MW

OUTSTANDING - As is often the case with this wine, there is a mild touch of the exotic suffusing the aromas of poached pear, passion fruit and white and yellow peach. There is better verve to the more mineral-inflected medium-bodied flavors that possess a more sophisticated texture while delivering slightly better depth and length on the lightly austere and firmer finale. Worth a look. BURGHOUND

OUTSTANDING - As is usually the case with a typical example of Combettes, the cool, airy and elegant nose is markedly floral in character with its aromas of essence of white orchard fruit, citrus zest and a hint of passion fruit. There is fine size, weight and volume to the vibrant middle weight flavors that are both finer and more precise, all wrapped in a lemon-tinged finish. This is a wine of finesse that should repay mid-term keeping as it could use better complexity. BURGHOUND

FIVE STARS - Pale lemon. This has the nobility above the others, immediately evident on the nose, without any undue generosity. The balance between fruit and stones is impeccable, a saline touch, a little bit of roasted stones, with excellent balance and persistence (96) JASPER MORRIS MW

OUTSTANDING - An admirably discreet dollop of wood frames aromas that include prominent mineral reduction, the essence of apple and a plethora of floral nuances. The rich and quite generous flavors retain even better punch and excellent power that seems to build on the impressively long and impeccably well-balanced finale. This too could use better depth but that should just be a matter of a few years of patience. BURGHOUND
