Anne & Sebastien Bidault Morey St Denis Les Porroux 2023This is the darkest of the bunch. More fresh turned earth and crushed rock, as opposed to the minerality of the Gevrey. Quite a giving palate, charming and open, it invites with a bevvy of bramble fruit, a dusting of cocoa and a finely tuned, almost briskly fresh, vein of acidity. The tannins are sweet and well formed, but more evident than the Gevrey too. It’s attractive, supple and giving, even though the tannins are showing a little today. The darker shades give way to brighter aspects. Tough call between these two wines. I also wonder, this lieu-dit is right up against the Chambolle-Musigny border, does that explain its charm and welcoming nature? Anyway, lovely! Anne & Sebastien Bidault Bourgogne Rouge 2023Succulent, well rounded, plump through the middle, a slight dusting of wood spice, dark cherry, plum, nice minerality that carries across the length. It’s plenty lively but also there is more than enough fruit here, 23 was excellent for Bourgogne and Village wines as there is plenty of flavour and weight to burn, this shows all the elements of the vintage that make so appealing at the regional level. The tannins are barely visible amongst the fruit, but they are there if you look for them. Should continue to settle into itself over a few years. Bloody lovely wine and exactly what I want from Bourgogne rouge. This is outlandish value! ROSCOE2023Pinot noirFrance358$75.00 As low as $67.50 -
Anne & Sebastien Bidault Gevrey Chambertin VV 2023Very obvious old vine creaminess here. That richness to the centre of the palate. Lots of minerality and plenty of big, fairly bold fruit wipes up the tannins and saturates your mouth. It’s almost modern in feel but there is the Gevrey grit and power on display. This is quite serious, even though the fruit here sucks up those tannins, they are not invisible and not without impact. Long and palate filling with an engaging flourish of minerality. Excellent old vine Gevrey that seriously overdelivers. I would urge a modicum of patience here. Its certainly shapely and well formed, but I think there is more to give that should show itself relatively soon. Lovely wine and, again, that old vine presence is easily felt here, like the roots have driven deep in to the rock and are drawing flavour from down low... Excellent, really serious, really good!
