On tasting we have selections from three of Tyrrell's numerous bottlings are available: Hunter Valley, Winemaker's Selection & Heathcote.
The Hunter Valley range is the entry level of their commercially available 100% Hunter Valley grown wines, noting Tyrrell's produce other ranges from vineyards all across Australia.
The Winemaker's Selection (aka the Vat Series) is the penultimate tier, in terms of exclusivity, of all their bottlings. This range champions classic Hunter Valley wine styles and individual Vat numbers are revered for their history of exemplary quality.
The Heathcote range's namesake is region from which the fruit is sourced, Tyrrell's vineyards on the slopes of Mount Camel in Central Victoria.

  1. Tyrrells Vat 47 Chardonnay 2022
    Tyrrells Vat 47 Chardonnay 2022
Vat 47 Chardonnay comes entirely from our Short Flat vineyard, where the original Chardonnay vines were planted by Murray Tyrrell in 1968. The soil profile in this dry-grown vineyard is unlike that of any of our other vineyards, which gives Vat 47 its unique character.
The nose is classic Vat 47 with delicate citrus and white stone fruit with a hint of creaminess and oak spice. The palate is medium-bodied and shows tightly focussed Chardonnay fruit that is balanced by textural elements derived from the solids ferment and extended time on yeast lees. The purity, intensity, and length of fruit is quite similar to 2021, if not a touch better.

Medium colour density with a glossy purple hue. The nose is complex showing darker summer fruits, with some liquorice and spice from the oak.
