Luminous straw-yellow. Complex, mint-accented aromas of nectarine, tangerine and powdered stone, plus a hint of licorice. Then bright, juicy and dense, showing outstanding acid-sugar balance and a penetrating juiciness to the stone fruit and herbal flavors. Finishes multilayered and very long, displaying noteworthy clarity and limy cut on the saline finish. Wine lovers everywhere know just how great Frédéric Emile Rieslings can be, but this looks to be a real knockout in the making; I absolutely love this wine's mineral drive and precision. It pulls off the neat trick of being both very ageworthy and also lovely to drink right now. I was happy to know that my palate was still working after an extremely long day of tasting when I told Pierre that in this vintage of Frédéric Emile I found more of the Geisberg than the Osterberg (in most vintages, the wine is a blend of 60/40 Osterberg-Geisberg, at times even 70/30, but this year it's more like 55/45). The lemon-sherbet note here is really beautiful. Then comes a wealth of herbs, ranging from thyme to parsley, with a touch of sea salt, before turning to more floral nuances, such as cherries and almond blossom. The powerful acidity seems to surround the whole mouth and makes this almost like licking a lemon; the unmistakable dryness is all the more enjoyable because of it. A lacy layer of floral honey lies over the very ripe white fruit aromas of this very elegant Auslese. In spite of the impressive concentration and succulence, this riesling Auslese is still really fine, even filigree. What a great vibrancy this also has at the dense finish! Enormous aging potential. The 2021 Kiedrich Turmberg Riesling Auslese is precise, fresh and flinty on the nose yet pretty sweet on the palate. This is an elegant and refined, dense and saline, seriously grippy and stimulating Auslese with enormous aging potential. Very long but very sweet as well. 8.5% stated alcohol plus 110 grams per liter of residual sugar. Natural cork. Tasted in July 2022. STEPHAN REINHARDT, The Wine Advocate

The grapes are selected from a small vineyard belonging to the u.g.a. Castellaro which is located at an altitude of about 230 meters and is characterized by a volcanic soil rich in a pebbly basaltic skeleton. Given its enviable summit position, this vineyard summarizes all the morphological and climatic characteristics essential to produce grapes suitable for drying.

Dense and stratified. Notes of honey and candied citrus fruits are combined with sensations of dehydrated apricot and ginger. Its rich sweetness is tempered by an excellent acidic-savory
shoulder. Long aromatic persistence.

I cut my teeth on chenin blanc, McLaren Vale chenin at that, but the wines I was drinking in the late 1980s didn’t bear a great deal of resemblance to this majestic offering.

I’m a bit blown away. Instead of being the steak knives in the range this vies for top spot. It has flavour and texture but it’s the way brine and smoky, reductive characters play in with the fruit that really gets you in. This is a sophisticated white wine. It’s all river stones and nashi pear, apple and cedar, though it’s defined by its smoke/salt/stone characters. It’s also exceptionally poised, dry and tense, all of which suggest that it has a seriously good future ahead of it. (96) CAMPBELL MATTINSON, The Wine Front

Bright, light yellow hue with a nutty bouquet that reflects some barrel work, combined with creamy, waxy, pastry-like nuances. A steely Eden Valley riesling with long-term ageing on its mind. Coiled tight and revealing just a glimpse of its potential at this early stage, one filled with aromas of Tahitian lime, lemon, lemongrass, fresh-cut cucumber and, above all, heady florals. Quieter on the palate with fine line of steely acidity running long in tandem with a slatey chalky mouthfeel. Give it time. JENI PORT, Halliday Wine Companion

Barrel fermented and matured in puncheons (22% new). No mlf. Bright green gold. A touch richer and more complex than the very good Village Chardonnay. An attractive nose of stone fruits, orange blossoms and grilled nuts leads onto the palate, which has good depth and persistence. There's a little orange pith on the long, refreshing finish. The nose is fresh and expressive with citrus, gooseberry, passionfruit, and subtle grassy notes, layered over a delicate flinty minerality. The palate is medium-bodied and refreshing, with lively acidity and a persistent, elegant finish that speaks clearly of its terroir.

The Louis family has been rooted in Thauveney-en-Sancerrois since 1860, with Eric Louis now leading the 10-hectare domaine on the south-eastern side of Sancerre. His philosophy combines respect for tradition with a sustainable approach, crafting wines that are both true to place and charmingly approachable.This come from holiding in and around the Loire Valley’s Pouilly-Fumé appellation.
