  1. Joshua Cooper Wines Pyren Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc 2024
Joshua Cooper Wines Pyren Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc 2024
A fumé style, and so good, as it's textural and luscious yet crisp and dry. It's savoury and super spicy, a little floral and citrusy, with a dash of lemon oil. Creamed honey and nutty lees bolster the palate, with neat phenolics and acidity pulling the finish together neatly. This is excellent on its own but with food it really shines. 2. Crawford River Beta Sauvignon Blanc Semillon 2023
Crawford River Beta Sauvignon Blanc Semillon 2023
Whole-bunched pressed and settled overnight before being racked into older oak for fermentation for 10 months and then put back into tank for six months. A medium bright green gold. A little more restrained than the '22, you'll find aromas of white nectarine, lemon verbena, almond and some white pepper. The palate is textured, saline, chalky and long and, while it's already looking good, I can see this becoming even more complex over the short to medium term. (95) PHILIP RICH, winecompanion.com.au

  3. Gembrook Hill Sauvignon Blanc 2025
    Gembrook Hill Sauvignon Blanc 2025
    (previous vintage)
From vines planted on an east-facing slope in Gembrook in '83. Barrel fermented in large format seasoned French oak. Perfumed and pithy. Aromas of pink grapefruit, gooseberry and white flowers together with a gentle herbaceousness. Flows seamlessly on the sapid, fine-boned palate. Another classic sauvignon blanc from Gembrook. Gentle Folk Sauvignon Blanc 2025
    (previous vintage)
Saline, rich and mouth-filling, this wine underwent complete mlf and spent eight months in French oak, both in barrique and hogshead. This is as good as it gets for Australian sauvignon blanc. Big on impact and deliciousness, the palate is a web of many skeins. Vanilla wafer, grilled white peach, Greek yogurt and lemon in all forms (from preserved segments to curd). It's decadent, but there's caution at hand, so as to not trample the fruit. Grapefruit, Pink Lady apple and a smattering of sea salt at the close. I can't lie, I couldn't tip this glass. 5. Cullen Grace Madeline 2025
    Cullen Grace Madeline 2025
The final blend comes out at 74/26% sauvignon blanc/semillon, and all up aged six months in oak, 58% new. As is the way with this classy wine, it's textural, complex and layered. Smoky, waxy, with a hint of lanolin, some quince paste and preserved lemon. And so savoury. The palate is refined with talc-like acidity and neat phenolics, so it's moreish to the last drop. Youthful and lovely today but will garner more complexity in time. (95) JANE FAULKNER, wine companion

  6. Heroes Otway Hinterland Sauvignon Blanc 2025
Heroes Otway Hinterland Sauvignon Blanc 2025
    (previous vintage)
Whole-bunch pressed and fermented and matured in French oak and acacia puncheons. Another exceptional, and I should add, fairly priced wine from this under-the-radar producer. Brightly coloured with aromas of stone fruits, confit lemon and elderflower and with the oak sitting discreetly in the background. Gently textured, harmonious, chalky and long on the palate. Should age well, too. (95) PHILIP RICH, winecompanion.com.au
