Holiday Shopping With Champagne Vilmart

Holiday shopping is stressful, we understand. Whether it's buying for your moody son who won't tell you what he wants, or trying to get that last minute deal before the special ends - we're here for you.

We'll be pouring the finest Champagne from Vilmart for all you last (ish) minute shoppers. We've added some more information below as we feel this is a Champagne House that is producing top quality whilst remaining true to their origins.

When I think of finesse in Champagne, Vilmart is one of the first names that comes to mind. Proprietor Laurent Champs has the magic touch in crafting exquisite wines that can stand with the very best….. The Vilmart style can be defined as timeless and classic. All of the Vilmart Champagnes are aged in oak, but with blocked malos, an approach that yields Chardonnays and Pinots of nearly incomparable finesse. Readers who haven't discovered Vilmart yet owe it to themselves to do so. ANTONIO GALLONI

Vilmart is among my favourite houses that have mastered the difficult challenge of delivering an elegant and full-flavored Champagne with finesse. If you don't know the house, do yourself a favour and give one of the cuvées a try, you'll thank me for the suggestion. BURGHOUND

Grower Champagne has grown in stature in the hearts, minds and cellars of Australian drinkers in recent years and while we have been excited to introduce drinkers to the Champagnes of Pierre Peters, Jerome Prevost, Jacques Selosse and Larmandier Bernier to name a few, I can tell you that Laurent Champs' Vilmart Champagnes from the Montagne de Reims are the next stars hiding in our midst.

Their brilliance may have remained relatively undiscovered in Australia to date, aside from some of our more savvy buyers, but among the world's finest palates their brilliance is wholeheartedly agreed upon. The glowing testimonials above from Antonio Galloni and Allen Meadows (Burghound), speak loudly to the quality of these transcendent Champagnes.

Laurent Champs signature is a savant like touch with oak which will confound what you think of oak-aged Champagnes. Here the oak is not a seasoning, but a way to build layer upon layer of texture and richness which he masterfully balances with a taut spidery thread of acidity, delivering Champagnes brimming with finesse, energy and deep vinous character. As Antonio Galloni puts it so aptly "...these are majestic wines that no one who loves fine Champagne will want to be without." PWS

    Vilmart Grand Cellier NV

The NV Brut Grand Cellier is fabulous. Rich, ample and creamy, the Grand Cellier is so alluring from the very first taste. All the Vilmart signatures - most notably uncommon elegance - come through loud and clear. Baked apple tart, pear, spice and a hint off butter add nuance, but it is the wine's overall feel that impresses most. Readers will have a hard time keeping their hands off this seductive Champagne from Vilmart. ANTONIO GALLONI

Light, bright gold. Heady, complex scents of poached pear, vanilla, anise and pungent flowers. Fleshy but focused and pure, offering vanilla-accented orchard fruit and lemon curd underscored by chalky minerality. Finishes long and toasty, with lingering florality and noteworthy clarity. JOSH RAYNOLDS

A blend of 30% pinot noir and 70% chardonnay, this has a complex and sophisticated nose that delivers peach fruits and citrus, plus some bolder yellow plum fruits too. The palate is assertive, energetic and concentrated with peach and nectarine flavors met with lemony acidity. Long, really powerful Champagne here. JAMES SUCKLING

  2. Vilmart Grand Reserve NV
    Vilmart Grand Reserve NV
A blend of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay, the latest rendition of Vilmart's NV Brut Premier Cru Grande Réserve reveals a pure, delicate bouquet of pear, white flowers, confit citrus and menthol. Medium to full-bodied, pure, precise and seamless, it has a fleshy core of fruit, bright acids and a crystalline texture that paves the way to a long, mouthwatering and ethereal finish. Based on the 2021 vintage complemented with 2020 and 2019, it includes 50% vins de réserve and was vinified and matured for 10 months. YOHAN CASTAING, robertparker.com

A great edition of Grand Réserve, this 2021 base cuvée benefits from reserve wines of the two preceding vintages. Its impressively radiant fruitiness gets supported by spicy touches from ageing in large oak casks and a refined reductive toast. Brisk and energetic on the pristinely fruity palate of purity and juiciness. ESSI AVELLAN MW

Alluring notes of nougat, cardamom spice and fresh honeycomb mix with red apples and berries on the nose. This beauty offers extravagance yet refinement, the nose promises a lot. The palate exceeds expectations, with a seamless flow of flavours; poached pears, preserved lemon and nougat collide beautifully on the cushioned core. A minerally tail combines with tangy acids on the finish, whipping your senses and enlivening the tastebuds. GABRIELLE POY, PWS

  3. Vilmart Emotion 2014
    Vilmart Emotion 2014
60% Pinot, 40% Chardonnay from vines averaging 60 years. This spends 6 years on lees.
Vilmart's 2014 Brut Rosé Emotion is laced with sweet dried cherry, dried herbs, blood orange and mint. It offers terrific breadth for the year, with the Pinot more in evidence than in the 2015 tasted alongside it (the blend is 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay for both). Eight grams of dosage feels expertly judged. Disgorged: February 2022. ANTONIO GALLONI
