Clare Valley Mini Expo 2023
Riesling is King in the Clare, there is no doubt about it and recently it has had a wonderful run of vintages with 2022 looking to be one of the greats. A combination of effusive and lifted floral aromatics combined with wonderfully pure fruit, concentration, what seems to be boundless energy, and full of joie-du-vivre. These are wines that are looking beautiful in their youth but are built to stand the test of time with aplomb.
The recent showing at the Clare Valley Wine Show only underpins that sentiment where of the 80 wines entered in this section for the Clare Valley's signature variety, 85 percent received medals, with twelve gold medals in the class.
Despite the fact that it's predominately a Riesling hood, the Clare also produces some incredible red wines too (it is right next to the Barossa, after all). Its cooler climate and higher altitude produce wines of wonderful concentration and complexity.
"This year has once again highlighted Clare's amazing ability to produce
world-class wines across the varietal spectrum" Chairman of the Clare Valley
Wine and Grape Association, Hon Martin Ferguson AM
