Lustau Don NunoIf you are looking for a dry sherry made in a slightly more oxidized style, the non-vintage Dry Oloroso Don Nuno Solera Reserva is your choice. Again, a nuttiness (in this case, walnuts) intermixed with a hint of Chinese black tea combine with salty, caramelized flavors make for a delicious glass of sherry. ROBERT PARKER, The Wine Advocate
In spite of the massive tarte-tatin character in the nose, this is mouth-filling but bone dry and powerful with a rather silky finish for a dry Oloroso (which tends to bitterness and austerity). Drink now. JAMES SUCKLINGSherrySpain410Special Price $47.00 Regular Price $53.00 -
Pol Roger Brut Reserve NV
A complex, reliable Champagne that would show well in all occasions thanks to its freshness and class. Drawing on all three grapes (chardonnay, pinot noir and pinot meunier), this has a complex grilled-nut and autolysis character overlayed across red berries and citrus fruits. Definitely a lot of reserve wine character here. The palate delivers lemons, grapefruit, peaches and mangoes in a refreshingly pure, fleshy style. The bright acidity, handy balance and tannins smoothly frame the finish JAMES SUCKLING
One of the great signatures of the region, its calligraphy flowing with elegance, panache and balance, the last reflected in the equal proportions of the three great varieties of Champagne. A flamboyant straw gold lustre, and an immediately seductive nose, encyclopaedic in its indulgence. Nougat, praline, white pepper, spice and nectarine were first to the page for this taster, but there is much more behind that, the sugar discrete yet edifying, the long yeast ageing responsible for a happy and altogether luminous marriage of power and finesse. Consistently excellent. SIMON FIELD MW, Decanter
the wine wafts from the glass with an alluring bouquet of green apple, brioche, pastry cream and buttered toast. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, impressively layered and complete, with a crisp but fleshy core of fruit, a youthfully frothy mousse and bright acids, concluding with a delicately chalky finish. This is one of the very finest—as well as among the most consistent—non-vintage brut bottlings from any of the Grandes Marques, and comes very warmly recommended. While it will be drinkable on release, it will reward some bottle age too. WILLIAM KELEY
Equal parts Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Meunier. It pours a bright silver straw hue and is fresh on opening, with a floral perfume of white flowers, fresh pear, and fresh almond. Medium-bodied, it’s attractive and approachable, with juicy peach fruit that fills the palate, although it stays refined, with a pinpoint mousse and a clean finish. It is a lovely entry to the range to enjoy now or over the next 6-8 years, and I love this as an aperitif style. JEB DUNNUCK

Troplong Mondot 2018The 2018 Troplong Mondot will take readers who haven't tasted these wines in a few years aback. Stunning in its aromatic presence, the 2018 is silky, medium-in body and super-refined. Once again, I am blown away by the wine's total sense of precision. The Cabernets are only 15% of the blend, and yet the 2018 is so strongly marked by floral and savory accents. Sweet red cherry, blood orange, mint, rose petal and lavender all build in the glass. The 2018 is regal, refined and absolutely exquisite. 97 ANTONIO GALLONI2018Cabernet BlendsFrance356Special Price $310.00 Regular Price $365.00

April Premium 6-pack 2021 - Taste of TassieTasmania has become such a hot-bed of awesome talent and great wine. As one of Australia's coolest wine growing regions pinot noir and chardonnay have excelled and sparkling wine still proves to be one of its crown jewels. These have been mainstays of the Apple Isle for some time and there looks this to be no stopping the tide of incredible examples of each making their way across the Tasman.
Fast-forward a generation and we are really starting to see what the verdant land can really turn out. In our mind some of the best Euro-styled rieslings are being produced there while the marginal climates and savvy wine-making are turning out some stellar textural pinot gris.
While pinot noir may reign supreme it is other reds like shiraz, that may, in time, prove to be something even more special. Time will tell and while it does we will happily sip our way through all that Tasmania's has to offer.
We start with the NV Delamere sparkling a blend of chard and pinot noir that represents not just some of the oldest plantings in the region but in Tasmania. This is always plays with great harmony structure it gets from the ferrous soils of the region. Textured and fine.
Stefano Lubiano have been making some waves recently with a fantastic set of releases. Their Primavera chard well and over-delivers for the money and we wonder how they can do it at the price they do. Fine and focused but with plenty of palate impact.
Young gun Ricky Evans is making a splash with his modern styled, clean and classic wines. While no doubt his pinots are highly regarded the latest release riesling is an absolute belter. Racy and fresh but with plenty of lush fruit to back it up.
We have two pinot's for the pack and why not? The first is Sailor Seeks horse from Tassies southern most municipality. This revitalised vineyard has been taken to new heights by Gilli and Paul Lipsombe. The second is a relatively newcomer Luna and is right north in the Tamar Valley and another single vineyard wine. Plush and full of energy a svoury finish - you decide which one you like best.
Last off is the Glaetzer-Dixon Mon Pere Shiraz. The 2010, to many people surprise took the coveted Jimmy Watson trophy and the following vintages have proven this was not a flash-in-the-pan. The 2017 is a stellar effort with plum and rip blackberry fruit off-set by a lush, structured palate. Fantastic stuff.

April Mixed Dozen 2021 - Autumn Drinking: 40 Degrees SouthThere are only a select few, perfect locations, to grow great wine on this big blue orb of ours and those are between 30 and 50 degrees north and south latitudes. Those regions need to provide just the right temperature, humidity, heat and climate to grow high quality grapes. We are absolutely spoilt for choice when it comes to the northern reaches with the whole of Europe at our disposal, but travel further south and things are a little different.
While New Zealand and Tasmania provide us with plenty of choices (and we would be remiss not to include them) the southern reaches sitting on and just below the 40 degrees latitude offer a up a wholy unique drinking experience.
While grapes like riesling, cabernet and pinot noir are familiar to us, a number of the wines in this months pack aren't seen so regularly on your local wines list or on the shelves of your corner wine store. From Malbec's in Argentina to the infamous Pinotage and the more classic varietals like Chenin in South Africa this is an exploration of all that is good in these great southern lands of ours.
Where do we start with such an awesome selection of interesting wine? It's hard to decide we might just do a quick run down by country.
South America is relatively new to the wine scene but has come along in leap and bounds. WE start with a couple of classics with the Finca Los Moras Malbec and the Santa Ana Cabernet. These are text book varietal wines with plenty to love in their up-front fruit and modern styling. For something a little different we through in the Bouchon pais. For those who do not know, Pais is an old variety that is Chile's answer to pinot noir. With a little more bite and a wild flourish this a great introduction to this fascinating wine.
Closer to home in New Zealand we have few classic drops with the Palliser Estate Pencarrow pinot. A wine you would be hard pressed to find with the structure, concentration and complexity at the same price. Off to Hawkes Bay for some stonking Chardonnay from Bilancia fame and some of the world most underrated syrah from stars Te Mata. What a treat!
Just in our backyard, Tassie continues to pump out some of the best wine in the country and while we would never miss out on showcasing another great pinot there is some real winners with pinot gris and riesling on the rise. The Moores Hill gris is a freat example of textural and vibrant gris from the Apple Isle with the Riversdale riesling hot on its tale.
And for something a little different we have got the latest release Willie Smiths Cider. This is an absolute belter, and we couldn't help but included it once we were told it had been released. Perfect timing! We will take that one!
Last, and something we don't see much in Aus is a cracking selection of wines from South Africa. Long-term customers may recognise some of these wines and as far as we are concerned, they are some of the best modern day Cape wines to make it over. The Bare Bones cinsault is a zippy red full of energy while the Winery of Good Hope pinotage is a juicy and fun take on this classic red variety,
And what would a selection of wine from South Africa be without a chenin blanc. The Secateurs is clean and crunchy with a plush fruit profile that is cleaned up by chenin's zippy acidity.
All in al a pretty awesome and exciting collection of stellar wines from the great south!

The Prince Non Alcoholic Negroni PackWe are stoked to introduce two relative newcomers to the non-alcoholic drink's scene. Both have been innovators in their fields and their products have caused a huge splash in the scene.
Lyre's offer the full suite of bar staples to make your own classic favourites as a no-alcohol options simply by selecting from the many Lyre's variants in their extensive range. They craft their spirits to taste just like the classics they pay homage to and source the finest all-natural essences, extracts and distillates from the four corners of the globe using cutting edge food science to craft the range.
Just down the road the crew at Brunswick Aces have been just as busy with their incredible selection of sapir's or non-alcoholic gins.
The processes used to make sapiir is a more traditional approach to and the methods used are centuries old, originating in the early distillation work developed across Europe and the Middle East around the 17th Century.
Books such as "the art of distillation" by John French, published in London in 1651, clearly outline many of the processes still used today to extract the delicate aromatic elements of botanicals used to give sapiir its unique flavour profiles.
Both the Gins and Sapir's are lovingly hand-crafted at their distillery and tasting room in Brunswick with each botanicals individually extracted and then finally blended to form the highest quality product. The range consists of the Hearts and Spades currently but watch out for more as these local heroes continue to grow.
THE NEGRONI
It was 1919, and Count Camillo Negroni decided his favourite cocktail the Americano needed a little something extra. He swapped out the soda water for gin and thus the Negroni was born. This classic aperitif may look like a sweet, Italian orange treat, but like a gate-crashing pack of weasels - it’s crafty, a little bitter and full of surprises.

May Premium Pack 2021 - Alternative Burgundy Pack
There is no doubt that the prices in Burgundy are starting to move beyond what us mere mortals can afford. So, to remedy the situation we have put together a cracking compliment of great burgundy from a selection of the regions underrated regions.
The slightly warmer reached of Burgundies south offer an up a diverse set of topographies and soils that are the perfect foil for pinot. These are regions that fly under the radar and while they may not be getting the attention they deserve they are producing some fantastic pinot with real character and charm.
These ‘satellite’ appellations, as they are often referred too, are coming into there own and with savvy winemakers and growers recognising the awesome potential now has never been a better a better time to explore.
We start with Marsannay and along with Santenay probably one of the better know quality producers of pinot outside of the most famous villages of the Cote de Nuit. In style it resembles its close neighbours in Fixin and Gevrey Chambertin with a morello cherry attack, black currant fruits and a mellow and generous body that often flows into a meaty, savoury finish.
The wines of Collotte already offer incredible value and given the quality of the two plots of limestone rich soil this comes off as an impressive wine. The husband-and-wife team use only a touch of new oak on there more premium cuvees allowing a purity and sense of sauvage to shine through here their other cuvees.
Fruther south Santenay and Auxey Duresses are also close neighbours and remain a part of the Cote-de-beaune. Santenay sits off to the far southern tip with Auxey nestled in between Volnay, Mersault and Puligny Montrachet.
Auxey includes 9 premiere crus with its mid-weight black and red fruits often off-set by some velvety, fine boned but moderate tannins. The Domaine Florence Cholet wines harness this beautifully with grace and charm. The wines have incredible buoyancy and racy-ness that is hard to not be a little taken by – fantastic stuff
Santennay follows in the footsteps of the Beaune with soft and round edges to the wines and a floral lift reminiscent of the wines of Volnay. They are a touch more supple in their nature then their northern cousins but with a slight more wild fruit profile.
Abbaye de Santenay are firmly focused on the vineyards where Ludovic and his team maintain the vines in a rigorous way to obtain high quality fruit. The philosophy of the domaine is to get the best of the terroirs, respecting nature and preserving the finesse of the wines.
Further south in the Cote Chalonnaise as the land broadens out and the sun gently warms the rolling hills. Its like of top-quality sites when compared to its cousins in the north is more than made up by its consistent quality and excellent value.
Mercurey in particular is amongst one of the best villages to source and even producers such as Faiveley have actively been involved in the region for decades, recognising the potential for quality. It bears a few premier cru sites that sit in best positions and offers up some of the more full bodied firmer wines, particularly in their youth.

Louis Picamelot Cremant de Bourgogne Brut Les Terroirs
Based in Rully and presided over by third-generation winemaker-proprietor Philippe Chautard, Maison Louis Picamelot produces some of the best sparkling wines in Burgundy. Forever in Champagne's shadow, few take Crémant de Bourgogne seriously. But what this Maison is doing is already impressive and well worth open-minded consumers' attention. WILLIAM KELLEY, Wine Advocate
Makes you smile this wine. There's a generosity of aromatic that leads you through baked pastry, fresh cut stonefruits and then an invogorating punch of crushed stone minerality puffs into view. It's kind of like a Champagne letting it's hair down on the palate as well, genrosity of well-defined fruit is edged with minerality and oyster shell while the fine bead cinches and tucks in the effusive edges. Its got enough in it for the serious-minded fizz drinker but is also playful and generous enough to keep you pulling it out of the fridge for pretth much any pcassion. MICHAEL MCNAMARAThis thing hits it out of the park in terms of delivering quality and value. It doesn’t hold back with packing in the flavour either. The fruit is present and accounted for, with a nice lick of minerality and some back end punch, but what is really striking is the yeasty, brioche, burnt toast mealy characters that immediately greet you as you take your first sniff. It has all the bells and whistles. As a Champagne nerd I love to see that in the wine, as distinctly different to my fetish for Grower Bubbles, give me some of that expressively yeasty goodness. Substantial length here too. This will be one hell of a crowd pleaser. ROSCOE
NVchardonnayFrance358 -
Louis Picamelot Cremant Les Terroirs Rose NVSiren song aromatics of strawberries and cream, a little tarragon and mineral and maybe a little vanilla lead you head first into the glass. So enticing and welcoming and it continues on the palate with the same ebullient fruit held within a soft and pillowy mousse creating an almost sensual decadent impression. Alongside that though is real energy and vigour elevating the fruit and spice (and a little sage) element in the wine. It's so beuatiuflly put together this wine and would leave a number of it's Champagne cousins for dead and ashamed of their pricing. Gorgeous sparkling. MICHAEL MCNAMARA
One of the crew called this “soft and mellow” I can see where that comes from, it certainly has a lovely mouth filling quality and all those billowing soft bubbles provide such a sensual cushioning effect, but the wine lacks nothing for racy energy either. I don't think its soft, I think it's lush!
Also, I love the fine chalkiness that punctuates the fruit. Like its BdB sibling the lights are flashing and the sirens are cranked up, they don’t shy away from the winemaking and let’s be honest, that’s what makes Champa… sparkling wines like this so exciting. Even with that distinct autolytic creaminess the wines overall impression is one of flirtatious elegance. It is my pick of the two, but only just, and it pips its sibling on refinement if not substance. ROSCOENVPinot noirFrance358 -

Alegre Valganon 'La Calleja' Tempranillo 2019
The red 2019 La Calleja comes from a vineyard that could only be bottled in 2010, 2016 and 2018, as it has suffered everything—hail, frost or whatever. It's from a north-facing plot that was planted in 1992 in Fonzaleche on shallow sandstone soils on white limestone that is harvested late but keeps a moderate degree (14.2%). This 2019 feels darker than usual, with black rather than red fruit, but it is still vibrant on the palate with freshness and fine tannins. The vineyard is farmed organically (but not certified), and they started with regenerative agriculture in 2019. It had a long élevage of 23 months in foudres and 500-liter barrels. 5,200 bottles were filled in September 2021. LUIS GUTIERREZ, The Wine Advocate
La Calleja is a single hectare planted in 1992 by Eva with her father, when she was a little girl. 100% Tempranillo and typically yields 4500 litres (although the first vintage, 2010 produced just 3000 bottles). Its name means 'little street'. Mountainous, with lots of stone in the soil, Fonzaleche village produces light and fluid wines with excellent acid structure. Typical handling regime: lightly crushed (yielding only a half-litre per kilo of fruit), open fermentation in medium-sized old wood for 6 days without additions (total sulphur, 40mg/l).Fruity-floral with violets, a fresh, mineral acidity and lovely texture, La Calleja is a genuine 'voice' distinct from the me-too choir of industrial-process Rioja.

Jose Gil Vino de Pueblo San Vicente Rioja 2021
This village wine is from a collection of vineyards in the highlands around San Vicente, at altitudes of 500m and above, from different sites and soils. Of San Vicente’s six valleys, all but la Rad figure. The composition is Tempranillo with 20% Garnacha and a little Viura. Manual harvest; destemmed; all the plots are made separately, then blended.
After fermentation in the concrete cubes in Briones, 40% of the village blend lingers in concrete, while the balance has ten months of gentle ageing is in old 500L barrels in the medieval cellar of San Vicente’s Castle Davalillo.
The whole orchard on display here, wood, flowers and fruits of cherries and apples, boysenberry, plum and blackberry. All is cut to shape by hyssop, juniper, dry brown spices and orchard bark. Savoury-but-juicy, it’s open, perfumed and round. Gravel and iron in the soil nuance the satin fruit-tannin sumptuousness. It’s a wine of great harmony and balance, and as it lingers, fruitfulness is beautifully trimmed by tannin to the finish where spice, bitters and easy nutty acid join in the violets-in-earth gorgeousness. SCOTT WASLEY
A river of black fruit, subtle florals and brown spices. Beautiful purity in the fruit, such detail and intensity and while there's a dusting of oak spice, the power and deeply pitched and mineral flecked fruit is very special. Bristling with energy. As I said above, long and aristocratic. Utterly convincing and delicious wine. MICHAEL MCNAMARA

Fruit entirely sourced from the Monforte d'Alba Cru of San Giovanni, which lends the wine a darker element and a touch of the more savoury, ironstone character. This is for consumption not contemplation. Forman Cabernet Sauvignon 2020
Cabernet …… who drinks Cabernet anymore? I mean we can't all hang out in exclusive "Gentlemen's Clubs in Mayfair" can we?
So I was super surprised when I had a chance to taste an older (2018) vintage of the Forman Cabernet a few months ago which was superb - so I couldn't wait to have a crack at the new vintage. California cabernet - all big, juicy and ripe fruit….. right? Nope - definitely not. There were layers of blueberry fruit, dusty chocolate, coffee bean, black cherry - and lovely hint of sweet spice and graphite minerality. Also a hint of oak supporting the rich - but definitely not over ripe - fruit. With a little time in the glass fantastic savoury notes popped up … think sage, bay leaf all adding wonderful complexity and interest to the wine.
This wasn't an over ripe jammy new world Cabernet … nor was it an austere/mouth puckering Bordeaux - just a wonderful balanced wine - drink up! MATT O'CONNOR, PWS
The 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon is a powerful, deep wine that marries elegance and finesse in a way few people can do, like Ric Forman. Rich and sumptuous in the glass, with terrific depth, the 2020 has so much to offer. Black cherry, mocha, licorice, spice, incense and new leather are all dialed up. Although it is early, this 2020 is shaping up to be one of the finer wines of the year.

The 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley has to be seen as a success in the vintage, revealing a solid bouquet of red and black fruits, tobacco leaf, cigar, and toasted spices. These carry to a medium to full-bodied Cabernet with a good sense of balance, moderate tannins, and outstanding length. It's well done and should evolve for another decade at a minimum. I followed this bottle for multiple days, and it always showed well. JEB DUNNUCK2020Cabernet SauvignonUSA446Special Price $250.00 Regular Price $295.00 -
Rosi Schuster Saint Laurent 2022Brimming with red-cherry fruit and joyful freshness. Wonderful interplay of extremely fresh fruit, fine tannins and lively acidity on the barely medium-bodied palate. Excellent balance at the delicate and animating, long finish. Amazing for just 11% alcohol! From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold. STUART PIGOTT, JamesSuckling.com
Sankt Laurent is a naturally reductive grape variety and as such Hannes has greatly reduced the time this ‘entry’ to the Sankt Laurent wines of the estate spends on skins in order to preserve the vibrancy of this native variety that is directly related to Pinot Noir (recent DNA analysis suggest it is the offspring of Pinot Noir and potentially Savagnin).
Spending 5-8 days on skins during fermentation in tank before being aged in a mixture of 2/3 big old casks & 1/3 inox, this is a wonderfully fresh, vibrant and aromatic expression of Sankt Laurent that is built for a chill before drinking with gusto. Hannes notes that 2022 was a great vintage for Sankt Laurent and if this release is anything to go on we cannot wait to see the old vine Village releases when they are bottled a little further down the line2022Austria357Special Price $43.00 Regular Price $51.00 -
Lucien Lardy Fleurie Les Roches 2022
The 2022 Fleurie Les Roches has more mineralité and complexity than the Les Moriers on the nose, with fine lift and perfume. The palate is medium-bodied with finely knit tannins, well-judged acidity and a silky, seductive finish. Quite delicious. NEAL MARTIN
Very fresh Fleurie showing raspberries, fresh blueberries, thyme and oranges on the nose. It's medium-bodied and bright, with crushed stone minerality at the end. JAMES SUCKLING

Domaine de Bellene Volnay Les Grands Poisots 2022From some of his retained vineyards in the Pousse d'Or days.
Lovely aromas of raspberry and dark cherry fruit laid over a faintly stony backbeat and gorgeous blue florals of violets. The palate is medium to full with demure but insistent attack of sweet cherry and spice overtones. Love the delineated flavours as it slides across the palate. Intensity of flavour without heft. I love the limestone drying quality in this wine and the mouth aromas that mark it as a Volnay through and through. Domaine de Bellene Savigny Les Beaune Rouge Jean Ferte 1er 2022
This is a relatively new wine to the Bellene releases and like the Francois Potel Homage wine, this is a blend of two sources, 1er Cru Haut Jarrons and 1er Cru Peuillets.
Perfumed cherry, drying petals, turned earth and limestone create the backdrop for a palate that is beautifully pure fruited and brimming with energy. Like many of the Bellene 2022s it has the combination of ripe fruit and then the driving limestone drying structure that ultimately gives this wine so much energy and lift. It finsihes with a lovely chewy tannin profile. I'd love to see this with some duck; lively "crunchy" character of the wine would be great with food. For the money, it's really smart Burgundy. BURGHOUND = OUTSTANDING
It's one of those wines only Burgundy can toss up - it's a parcel of Grand Cru Echezeaux that's not designated Grand Cru but village. It certainly doesn't look at all village level. Super polished and full of Vosne Flagey richness.Easily the best version I've seen of this in years, and that's not damning it with faint praise, this wine is a star of the range, but this is superb Burgundy. I opened it the other night. Wow, what a wine and gives you everything you think Burgundy should MICHAEL MCNAMARA

Domaine de Bellene Vosne Romanee Les Suchots 1er 2022
From vines planted in 1937. Cask sample.
Cask sample. Intense, concentrated, so youthful but has so much future ahead. An impressive Vosne premier cru. Masses of extract, concentration, fine wood, bright acidity and purity on the finish. Leafy, dark-berry notes. A joyous example which will age for many decades. www.jancisrobinson.comHere the nose is clean and bright with its ripe and lightly mentholated aromas of black cherry liqueur, spice and floral scents. The rich, suave and seductively textured flavors coat the palate with sappy dry extract while delivering solid length on the powerful, dusty and firm finale. This is not a Suchots of finesse but it doesn't lack for character. BURGHOUND - = OUTSTANDING

Granbazan Ambar 2023
Etiqueta Ambar uses grapes from vineyards that are over 40 years' old, mostly in Cambados and Meao in the Salnas Valley on sand and granite soils. Almost Riesling like in terms of structure and acidity (Diego Rios worked in the Mosel Valley) this is stony and intense, with layers of lime cordial, green apple and lemon zest and impressive extract. 2024-29. TIM ATKIN MW
The 2023 Albariño Granbazán Etiqueta Ámbar, sourced from Val do Salnés, undergoes a few hours of skin contact before fermenting and aging eight months on lees. Yellow in color, it presents aromas of white peach, orange blossom and candied citrus. The palate is dry, light and delicately fresh with a slight spritz adding texture. The contrast between the lush nose and the lean palate is intriguing and flavorful. JOAQUIN HIDALGO, Vinous.com
Full bottle 1,245 g. Tasted blind and then tasted again (not blind) several times over several days. Certified sustainable (Fair’N Green). Several months on fine lees.
Delicate and pretty, going from fennel flowers to lemon verbena to lemongrass to lemon sherbet. Gentle but surprisingly deep plashy pools of acidity. Orange citrus and tamarind at the core, that over 10 days softened to buttery saffron. Like all the really good, complex Albariños, it has high-frequency intensity. It feels as if its heart has been hand-drawn with a soft graphite pencil. After being open for days, it just finished on peaches and apricots, as if giving up pretending to be about anything else. Pol Roger Brut Vintage 2018
The 2018 Brut Vintage is absolutely delicious, just as it was last year. Floral and citrus notes give the 2018 lovely aromatic lift to play off its mid-weight personality. This is a classy, polished Vintage Champagne marked by notable brightness. Airy, elegant and silky in feel, the 2018 is an absolute delight. ANTONIO GALLONI
Pol Roger's 2018 vintage is showing many of the fine facets of the year upon release already, open and giving in style with roasted pear, ripe apricot and grapefruit skin, lightly creamy and developing richness in pecan and brown pastry. The Pinot Noir leads, relatively structured for the year while showing hints of the smoke and spice to come with further age. A wine that flows with some of the ease and charm of 2018, but that promises a fairly early – if rewarding – unfolding in bottle. DECANTER
Made from 60% Pinot Noir and the rest Chardonnay and pouring a vibrant silver/yellow color, the 2018 Champagne Brut Vintage (like all these wines) was aged in stainless steel without any oak. In the glass, it opens to springy and dewy floral aromas of honeydew melon, fresh flowers, citrus blossoms, and pastry dough. Medium-bodied and inviting, it’s approachable now and takes on a more mineral character on the palate without ever feeling austere. All its components move seamlessly through the palate, with a refined mousse and a kiss of sunny feel on the finish, but it’s clean and refined all the way through. This is going to improve with age, but it’s quite enjoyable now. Drink over the coming 15 or so years. It was made exclusively from Premier Cru and Grand Cru villages, was aged for 6 years on the lees JEB DUNNUCK
The 2018 Brut Vintage, with a dosage of seven grams per liter, exhibits a delicate bouquet of ripe orchard fruits, pineapple, peach, sweet spices and pastry, followed by a full-bodied, rich and elegantly creamy mid-palate that segues into a fleshy core of fruit with a penetrating, long and saline finish. Admirers of Pol Roger’s style will love it. WINE ADVOCATE
Pale lemon with a lively and persistent mousse and an attractive nose of Spring flowers, hawthorn and apple turnover, a hint of iodine too. Subtle, the wine is composed yet incisive, fresh and yet profound, with orchard fruit and a citric cut shaping the palate, and notes of verbena and sourdough in support. Expertly crafted and forthright, without indulging to excess, the 2018 is poised and confident but far from brash and with a clear potential to evolve gracefully. The wine broadens beautifully with a little time in the glass, with hints of honey and biscuit evidenced, and will do so equally impressively in bottle over the next five years and beyond. Le Chiuse Rosso di Montalcino 2022
Bottled in December, the bright ruby 2022 Rosso Di Montalcino leaps out of the glass with poppy lift in its effusive aromas of red cherries and wild red berries, licorice candies, and pressed flowers. Easygoing and approachable although it still has lovely Sangiovese character, it has a delicately juicy feel, with fine tannins, a fresh, balanced level of acidity, and a clean finish. Drink 2024-2030. AUDREY FRICKE
The juicy and delicious 2022 Rosso di Montalcino from Le Chiuse is a textbook Rosso. It opens with aromas of ripe dark berry, spice and blue flower while the succulent palate delivers ripe Morello cherry, crushed raspberry, star anise and ground clove. Lithe polished tannins and tangy acidity keep it balanced, bright and accessible. Drink through 2027. KERIN O'KEEFEWonderfully pure and lifted, the 2022 Rosso di Montalcino opens with a beautiful cascade of rose petals, sage and wild strawberries. It's soft and round with vibrantly ripe wild berry fruits and sweet spices that ride a wave of juicy acidity. This leaves a primary staining of concentration. The mouth waters for more, tapering off crisp with a cherry-berry tinge. ERIC GUIDO

Joh Jos Prum Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett 2022Here is a great Mosel Kabinett that needs a bit more time to show what it is really made of. Still very young with a pronounced yeasty character that slowly recedes with aeration, but the white peach and honeysuckle aromas that emerge are stunning. Extremely vibrant and precise, the slatey acidity making this fabulously graceful. As pure as an Alpine stream running with glacier water. STUART PIGOTT, jamessuckling.com2022RieslingGermany442
