Of course its Burgundy for this stage. What else could it be? The wines of Boris Champy are such a delight. Incredible complexity but in an easy drinking and plush package. It's a combo that is hard to beat.
This wine results from the blending of 2 plots: " En Bignon " (clay soil on hard limestone) and " Le Clou" (white chalky soil, significant gravelling on yellow marl) from Nantoux. The complexity and diversity of the different plots is expressed through the wine, which reveals the potential of the Hautes Cotes and the impact of altitude on the wine, which is why the "cuvée" is named after it. Hand harvest at optimum maturity. Winemaking : careful extraction, 50% whole cluster, wooden fermenters. Barrel aging: 12 months in average with 15% new oak.
Stone fruit, hints of cedar and undergrowth form the aromatic structure of this wine. The palate is very expressive, packed with delicious red and black fruit and showing a nice underlying acidity. This wine is true to the image we have of a perfect Burgundy, immensely pleasurable, refined and very "thirst-quenching".

The 2021 Pinot Noir is vibrant on the nose and totally precise and focused. The acid spools right from the front of the palate and has a mobile, agile way about it. The season may have had it's challenges, but the wine is effortless, natural and shapely. It's great. Dawson James Pinot Noir 2020The 2020 Pinot Noir is sourced from the Meadowbank vineyard, in the Upper Derwent Valley, in Tasmania. The vineyard site experiences warm days and cool nights, largely unaffected by sea breeze, imbuing the wines with a depth and density of flavor that is bolstered by the spine of juicy acidity (courtesy of the cool night-time temperatures). The wine itself is savory, littered with autumnal undergrowth, enoki mushroom, black cherries and tobacco leaf. The palate is more succulent than the nose would lead us to believe, and it is rich with umami inflections of bone broth and quince paste. Giant Steps Applejack Pinot Noir 20232022 was a hard act to follow, but this superb wine gives it a shake. Exotic, aromatic and pure with its bouquet of wild strawberries, dark cherries, quince, spices and flowers. Densley packed, this saturates the palate, but, as always, it's light on its feet at the same time. Seamless tannins round out another benchmark for what's already a benchmark wine. Dry River Pinot Noir 2022The 2022 Pinot Noir leads with coffee grounds, black cherry, satsuma plum skin, Szechuan peppercorn, pink peppercorns, a hint of raspberry leaf tea and graphite. The wine smells savory while delivering all of these things. In the mouth, it is fine-boned but persistent and behaves in a gentle, splayed sort of manner through the finish. It's a very pretty wine, one that is quiet now, but I feel it will age slowly and elegantly in the cellar. This is a wine to drink now and to perhaps misunderstand in doing so. Or it's a wine to be patient with and reap the benefits after five or so years and beyond. Paul Pillot Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jean Rouge 2022A more elegant, and more floral-suffused, nose reflects notes of red berry fruit compote that is certainly ripe but stops short of being jammy. There is a more refined texture to the middleweight flavors thanks to the relatively fine-grained tannins shaping the balanced and lingering finale. Gentle Folk Scary Gully Pinot Noir 2023Peppery, herbal, lifted and grippy. A good combo of things when it strolls through a sluice of tart cherry juice and cranberry tang. Tightly coiled too, a vigorous and streamlined pinot noir, albeit it has expressive nature, a distinct personality and flair. Refreshing all up too. The broodier and deeper of the three single-site pinots this release. Scary Gully is the oldest site with the most elevation. The essence of a long ripening season is cast here with black cherry and plum, compact and dense. There's a cosy up-in-a-log cabin appeal to it, all crunchy and wild, confident in its expression, with ample spice and twiggy herbs, thyme and bay. It feels unperturbed and complete. The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Mes Favorites Vieilles Vignes opens with gorgeous aromatics. Exotic and yet also quite delicate, the 2022 has so much to offer. Kirsch, sweet red cherry, rose petal, blood orange and spice. In many vintages Mes Favorites can be quite powerful, but judging from this barrel sample, the 2022 looks to be on the delicate side. The last of this fruit, from parcels that are as much as 75 years old, did not come in until 10/15, very late by the standards of the year. ANTONIO GALLONI, Vinous.comOUTSTANDING TOP VALUE. The wood treatment remains subtle though by no means imperceptible on the spicier aromas of mostly red berries. The richer and more concentrated medium-bodied flavors possess good power on the more complex, firmer and impressively long finish. The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Symphonie marries intense dark fruit with strong mineral undertones. Spice, crushed rocks, lavender, sage and dried herbs open with a bit of coaxing. This is shaping up nicely. There’s a lot of wine here. ANTONIO GALLONI, Vinous.comOUTSTANDING. A subtle but not invisible application of wood sets off equally fresh aromas of red currant, earth and a whisper of the sauvage. There is a beguiling sense of energy to the delicious if not particularly dense medium weight flavors that retain good detail on the notably more complex, structured and lingering finale that displays better overall balance.
