Genot Boulanger Meursault Clos du Cromin 2021
WORTH A SPECIAL SEARCH - 1.5 ha – the part closest to Meursault village – plenty of clay but the limestone is quickly found below. Hmm, spiced, deeply aromatic – partly due to some noble reduction. Broad, vibrant wine – faintly tannic, spiced, classic Meursault – bravo! BILL NANSON
Fruit aromas range from citrus peel to apricot with accents of butter and spice. The texture is rich, but the body is balanced by the racy acidity of the 2021 vintage. This wine will drink well on release but is undoubtedly suited to at least mid-term cellaring. The village-level vines of this lieu-dit are at the base of the slope just outside the town of Meursault; the domaine farms 1.5 hectares here to produce this delicious certified-organic wine. Genot Boulanger Puligny-Montrachet Les Levrons 2021
Broader, more incisive, still with a little noble reduction. Cool fruit, calmer than the first impression of the Cromin but similarly juicy in the middle and finishing flavours – a hint more austerity – citrus skin bitters – in this finish so I’d wait a little longer to open but an excellent wine with fine intensity. BILL NANSON
The 2021 Puligny-Montrachet Les Levrons, which was not affected by frost and consequently bestowed a generous 50hl/ha, has a minerally bouquet that unfolds in the glass, with touches of wet limestone and struck match. The palate is well balanced with a spicy opening, fine depth and a keen thread of acidity; a sprinkling of white pepper appears towards the finish. NEAL MARTIN
2021chardonnayFrance358$325.00 As low as $292.50 -
Genot Boulanger Puligny-Montrachet Les Nosroyes 2021
This nose is narrower than the Levrons – but deep and again with that faint noble reduction the top notes more spiced. More incisive to start – a bit more energy on dsplay here too – a more herbed complexity that mixes with heavier citrus notes – impressive and also for keeping a little while, also a little tannin on the end of my tongue! BILL NANSON
The 2021 Puligny-Montrachet Les Nosroyes has a little more delineation and vigour on the nose compared to the Levrons with menthol-tinged citrus fruit, lime and crushed stone. The palate is well balanced with a little more "bite" than the Levrons, modest depth with a nicely detailed, Meursault-like finish. Fine. NEAL MARTIN

Genot Boulanger Chassagne-Montrachet Cru Les Vergers 2021 1er
WORTH A SPECIAL SEARCH - 2 parcels here; one in the Clos st Marc. Broader more generous aromatics – very inviting with a hint of sweetness but nothing exotic. Mouth-filling, melting, open – almost fluid in style – just a beautiful shape and mouth-watering style – a bottle of this wouldn’t last very long on my table – bravo! BILL NANSON
The 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Vergers 1er Cru has a pure and perfumed bouquet with yellow fruit, marzipan and light almond scents. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, a touch of white pepper and orange rind mixed with tropical notes towards the finish - peach and passion fruit. NEAL MARTIN

Roche de Bellene Bourgogne Chardonnay Cuvee Reserve 2022The entry-level white Burgundy comes from old-vine parcels in the Côte de Beaune and Côte Chalonnaise. The vines have an average age of 48 years and, as with all the wines, harvesting is done by hand. For this cuvée, about half is vinified in stainless steel and half in used oak barrels. This gives a nice balance of fresh fruit with a light touch of oak.2022chardonnayFrance358$48.00 As low as $43.20

Bilancia Trelinnoe Syrah 2020
What a great year 2020 was for HB Syrah. I don’t know the price, and I suspect it’s long sold out, but for the record.
Red fruits, paprika, exotic, liquorice, peppery too. Melting tannin, stony, plenty of juicy acidity, Dusty, aniseedy and very long. Such a distinct wine. Superb. GARY WALSH, www.winefront.com

Boris Champy Hautes Cotes de Beaune Blanc Montagne 382 2022
From the Montagne de Cras, plot in Nantoux, the soils here is very varied, stony, but also full of clay. The 4-hectare plot is made up of 3 hectares of vines and 1 hectare of natural areas of great biodiversity: scree slopes, hedges, orchards, limestone grasslands with numerous orchids and even a few corm trees, which are extremely rare these days.
In the winery, the fruit is whole bunch pressed into part barrel (25% new) and part small stainless barrels and left to sit on lees for up to 12 months.
Rich and generous citrus fruits, honey and subtle floral notes, rounded out by a nice integration of oak and balanced acidity.

Vouette et Sorbee Blanc dArgile Brut Nature R20
It's a super mineral, nutty wine with crunchy stone fruits. There is lovely, pulpy fruit but also racy, crunchy acidity and terrific length with a twist of pleasant astringency. It takes you (the 60 miles) to grand cru Chablis and back again. ROB WALTERS, importer
Review on a previous release
Proving superior Blanc de Blancs is quite possible in the Aube's Pinot Noir paradise, this opens with lemon cream and persistent white chocolate and nougat through the palate. Details of white flowers, peach and almond. Very gourmand and complex, and quite a counterpoint to the more austere Chardonnay Champagnes from further north. 100% Chardonnay. Single parcel. Oak fermented. TIM HALL, decanter.com2020chardonnayFrance376$300.00 As low as $270.00 -
Peay Vineyards West Sonoma Coast Chardonnay 2022The 2022 Chardonnay (West Sonoma Coast) is a gorgeous appellation-level wine. Apricot, chamomile, dried flowers, mint, tangerine peel and a kiss of French oak all grace this tasty Chardonnay. Time in the glass releases some of the wine's textural intensity.ANTONIO GALLONI
The 2022 Chardonnay West Sonoma Coast sports a bright yellow/straw hue and is expressive on opening with notes of pear, white flowers, orange blossom, and fresh hazelnut. Medium to full-bodied, it reveals a nice linear feel, but it has a lovely, high-quality carriage of citrus oils (lime) and a long, great, mouthwatering finish. Drink this over the next 10 years. Bilancia Syrah 2021
From Roy’s Hill. What a great producer this is. It’s a pity not much comes into Australia, though, also, there’s not a lot of wine made either.
Raspberry, lots of perfume, apricot pit, a little pepper. Meaty, but with fine slate-like tannin, savoury on the finish and very good it is too. GARY WALSH, www.winefront.com.au

Eleni et Edouard Vocoret Chablis Le Bas de Chapelot 2022The 2022 Chablis Le Bas de Chapelot underwent partial tressage in the vineyard this year, so the Vocorets could compare. They found the fruit ripened earlier with more intense aromas. These will be bottled separately. It has a lovely peachy, nectarine-tinged bouquet that blossoms in the glass. The palate is well-balanced with touches of grapefruit and white peach. It is very elegant and pure, with a touch of spice towards the finish. Simply a mouthwatering prospect - difficult to believe this is not a Premier Cru. NEAL MARTIN
TOP VALUE - This also displays an ample amount of mineral reduction on the aromas of brine, algae and white orchard fruit. There is even better density to the sappy and palate soaking medium-bodied flavors that also flash focused power on the stony, moderately austere and beautifully persistent finale. This is also excellent. BURGHOUND

Sven Joschke ‘V.S.V.P’ Fortified Syrah 2022Taking a little inspiration from our Portuguese friends, here’s our Barossa Vintage P@rt. A.K.A Very.Special.Vintage.P@ort . Early picked Syrah spread over three nally bins, foot stomped twice a day to extract maximum colour and tannin. Whilst we didn’t adopt the tradtional lagar approach, Motely Crue accompanied us on this stomping journey. Aged Brandy Spirit added at a mild baume of 3 arrested the ferment at 52gms residual. Must was immediately pressed to tank, settled and bottled shortly after with zero fining or filtration and no oak. The result, a complex balance between savoury and sweet savoury, liquorice spice, lavender and violets. SVEN JOSCHKE2022shirazAustralia$33.00 As low as $29.70

Teusner Big Jim Shiraz 2021
Shiraz sourced from the Wark Family vineyard, aged in 50/50% seasoned and new French oak and featuring a lovely label featuring 'Big Jim' by local Barossa artist Marnie Wark. Deep crimson and packed with plump, ripe satsuma plum and macerated summer berry fruits. Hints of baking spices, dark chocolate, earth, chocolate bullets, violets, olive tapenade, softly spoken cedar tones and vanilla. Plush and pure with bright acid drive and a fan of spicy dark and black berry fruits on the exit. (95) DAVE BROOKES, Halliday Wine Companion
It’s now packaged in a Burgundy bottle and while the front label is more or less the same, it’s been tweaked. Anyway, you get the gist.Wow this is impressive. Pure, rich and commanding. Blackberry and sweet plum flavours cruise into malt, cedar, earth and orange rind. Tannin comes in long chains, both majestic and seamlessly well integrated. There’s a deal of oak here but the fruit is mighty and in any case, it’s hand-in-glove. It’s absolutely in the fuller, richer, sweeter style, but it’s also an absolute beauty. (95) CAMPBELL MATTINSON, The Wine Front
Incredibly dark and inky in the glass, almost black. Opulent aromas of liqueur chocolate, mulberry, stewed plums, mocha and sweet spice. So much going on here. The palate takes no prisoners, it's decadently rich and mouth-filling with lashings of dark fruit flavours, sweet oak, anise, graphite and pudding spice. There is a decent lick of tannin and acid doing its best to control the slurpy and viscous fruit, and it does a pretty smart job. Power, poise and plushness (95) AARON BRASHER, The Real Review2017shirazAustralia349$66.00 As low as $59.40 -

De Bortoli PHI Yarra Valley Chardonnay 2021From the Lusatia Park vineyard at Woori Yallock, purchased by De Bortoli family in 2016. Whole-bunch pressed, barrel fermented and matured for 9 months in both new and used French oak casks. Bright green gold. Restrained with good fruit purity. Yellow pear, white nectarines and a hint of jasmine, the palate is a happy mix of being both textured and refreshing. A very even wine that finished long with some green apple crunch. Tomfoolery Young Blood Shiraz 2023
Inspired by the new wave ‘Vino Joven’ wines of the old world, Young Blood Shiraz is released as a cheeky youngster with just a brief barrel maturation to showcase structure and varietal character, while retaining freshness and finesse. The fruit is open fermented utilising native yeasts, with 30% whole bunch in the mix. After 7 days maceration post-ferment, the wine is gently basket pressed and racked to stainless vats (50%) and old French oak hogsheads (50%) for 6 months maturation. Young Blood Shiraz is pure, uncomplicated enjoyment.
Deep ruby colour with the vibrant pink rim of a fresh young wine. Spicy bramble and black cherry nose with fresh raspberry top notes. Soft damson plum palate with red berry fruit flavours, bright and juicy on a medium bodied elegant palate. Fine tannins and refreshing balancing acidity finish off this easy drinking wine. TOMFOOLERY

Salo Yarra Valley Chardonnay 2023
From the Full Moon Vineyard in Gladysdale. Wild ferment and 100% mlf. There's only one wine from winemakers and friends Steve Flamsteed and Dave Mackintosh, and it's always a good 'un. A bright green gold. There's aromas of ripe stone fruits together with some savoury and complex briny notes. On the palate, this has lots of flavour and punch, finishing long with a refreshing touch of grip. Delicious now and over the next 4–6 years. (95) PHILIP RICH, Halliday Wine Companion
One forgets the longevity of something that seems to have great energy behind it, but this is the eleventh year that Salo has worked with this fruit from the Full Moon Vineyard of the Southern Hills of the Yarra. Wild ferment, old oak, unfined, unfiltered, minimal sulphur. A cool and wet start to the season, low and slow growing reflected in the wine somewhat.A quiet and gentle chardonnay of suppleness, creamy flow, soft citrus fruit characters, red apple sweet-sourness and a lick of almond, nougat and vanilla in the mix. An undertow of barely there but refreshing saline acidity does a nice trick too. This feels very even, subtle in its general sense and yet persists beautifully and with freshness with each sip. Classy, understated and delicious. MIKE BENNIE, The Wine Fron

Kumeu River has long been the spearhead for New Zealand Chardonnay. REBECCA GIBB, Vinous.com
ON THE 2023
This is fresh, crunchy and clean, with mineral and spice notes and plenty of salty undertones. Sliced lemons and apples. Medium-bodied with a fresh finish. Drink now. Screw cap. JAMES SUCKLING
The Brajkovichs remain firmly on top when it comes to New Zealand Chardonnay, finding another gear over the last decade as the competition around them heats up. They are undoubtedly New Zealand's greatest white wine producer and have set a blistering pace for the variety over the last four decades.Yes, this small family winery that's sandwiched between a winding river and a busy highway is a world beater. Collectors from the across the world are eager to snap up their wares upon release. Pulling off the highway just beyond the outskirts of Auckland and stepping through the lemon-yellow archway that leads into the tasting room it all seems a bit impossible. Maybe better suited to a few souvenirs, tea and scones perhaps? Then you taste the wines.

Spinifex Bete Noir 2021It’s flush with fruit but there’s a meatiness to this and its churned with tannin too, grainy tannin. Charred meats, blackberries and blueberries, a floral element and fist loads of roasted spice. It’s bold but neat, tannic but not at the expense of the overall flow. Excellent gear, this. (94) CAMPBELL MATTINSON, The Wine Front
Deep, bold purple-red colour; aromas of sweet ripe black fruits, blackberry and mulberry, vanilla/chocolate too, the palate full bodied and fruit-sweet at the core, then some astringency comes in thanks to acidity and tannin—but it's all in balance. Plenty happening here. A promising shiraz that will reward patient cellaring. (95) HUON HOOKE, The Real Review
Pete Schell's Bête Noir is a shiraz blended across a selection of Barossan grounds including a portion from the cooler Eden Valley. Typically sporting a super-saturated, magenta-splashed hue with aromas of bright plum, black cherry and blueberry fruits cut with hints of violets, brown spice, ironstone, dark chocolate, smoked meats, cherry confit and earth. Glossy and impressively pure, there's ferrous edge to the tight tannins and an acid line that propels the pure fruit briskly across the palate, finishing elegant yet opulent. William Fevre Chablis 2022
FIVE STARS - To bottle in November. The average age is 40 year old vines, and 10% in wood. Excellent long finish. Sources are Chablis and Chichée for half and the rest in Viviers, 50 year old vines. Well drained steep slope which though south facing is at altitude and stays fresh. A fresh lemon yellow. The nose is a little more subdued than the Petit Chablis but more classical. This too has the attractive saline bitterness of extreme youth, but the fruit builds beautifully on the palate. Drink from 2025-2030 JASPER MORRIS MW
TOP VALUE - There is slightly better Chablis typicity present on the aromas of mineral reduction, iodine and cool white fleshed fruit. There is also slightly better volume and richness to the delicious medium weight flavors that possess a lovely sense of underlying tension, all wrapped in a refreshing, clean, dry and sleek finale. This is very good for its level plus it should reward a few years of keeping if desired. BURGHOUND
Distinct shellfish notes. Plenty of volume, a fleshy sunny character on the palate, freshened by lingering salinity to finish. Top example of AP Chablis in 2022. From 40ha of vines, with three distinct plots, including one from a lovely vineyard to the east around Viviers, with vines planted in the 1960s, but all of the vines have plenty of age. DECANTER

Giant Steps Sexton Chardonnay 2023Right now, this is the most salivating and seductive of Giant Step's superb array of single-vineyard chardonnays from '23. Domaine Naturaliste Discovery Chardonnay 2023Before I tell you that Bruce Dukes' career has spanned over 3 decades and that he's had years of experience both locally and abroad, it's likely a good idea to start at the finish: Bruce Dukes is wholly talented, and while he makes high-quality acclaimed wines for his own estate - Domaine Naturaliste - he also does this for a raft of other, smaller producers in Margaret River and Geographe. His winemaking style is one of fresh, pure fruit over obvious or intrusive winemaking artifact, and the wines routinely possess a polish and eminent drinkability. ERIN LARKIN
Aromas of crushed stones, lemon peel, sliced pink grapefruit and subtle ground spice. Medium-bodied with a lot of pleasant white tea character. Jasmine and leafy herbs come through. Drink now. JAMES SUCKLING
Tasting with Bruce is a pretty remarkable experience. The guy knows his business and he knows he is getting things done, better than most. He is a crazy character though. You have to strap in and get ready for the ride. He runs from jovial and humorous through to intense and stern. Kind of like his wines. Some of them are driven, intense and focused things, some are a little more uplifting and joyous. This one definitely sits somewhere in the middle and we love it!2023chardonnayAustralia432$30.00 As low as $27.00 -

A true cool climate shiraz. Herbaceous aromas with a scent of blackberry and blue fruits, a light spray of black pepper and woody spices. The palate has a core of ripe blackberry fruit and concentrated redder berry fruit flavours. Walsh & Sons Hamish Chardonnay 2023
Named for Hamish David Walsh, and as it happens, my brother is David Arthur Walsh. A blend of Burnside Chardonnay (raised in anfora) and Osmington (three year old oak).
Well, this is a wild one for sure. It’s kind of sweaty and clove spiced, oyster shell, white mushroom, lime and cape gooseberry. It’s saline and savoury, powdery and dusty in texture, some cashew cream in the mix, with a curry leaf finish of good length. It’s kind of dirty, and yet, I find it strangely compelling. Syrahmi Demi Heathcote Shiraz 2023
Demi is such a vital expression of Heathcote shiraz. It’s also an essential expression of value, from a small producer. There’s complexity here. There’s juicy fruit. There’s fistfuls of spice and yet there’s a general we-are-one cohesion. Blue, black and red summer berry flavours, an ironstone element, woodsy spices roasted in an iron pan and modest inputs from florals. It’s a better wine than its asking price would suggest. It’s firm, confident and flavoursome. CAMPBELL MATTINSON, the wine front
Red earth, black cherries and olive tapenade pronounce themselves. There's a charming rustic character to this wine - much like the person behind it. It's got grunt, spice and power however it's a very graceful medium-bodied red. The palate is loaded with complexity - black and purple fruits sit alongside a graphite minerality and oh-so-soothing tannins. Easily loveable and very much enjoyable! Saumaize-Michelin Macon Viillages 2022The Macon-Villages comes off old vines that are located in the parcel called "Les Sertaux", in the village of Bussiere. Defintely a punch above here with that lovely expansive fruit of the 2022 vintage counterd by some zingy acidity. Its peppy but with a lovely generosity too. Lovely little wine.2022chardonnayFrance427$57.00 As low as $51.30

Saumaize-Michelin Vire Clesse 2022Come from vines in Clessé, further north in the Mâconnais, where the climate is cooler and the grapes ripen later. Lovely freshness here and a crystilaine spine of acidity that spikes the lush fruits.2022chardonnayFrance427$80.00 As low as $72.00
