Carbonnieux Blanc 2017
The 2017 Carbonnieux Blanc is absolutely lovely. Lemon confit, white flowers and green orchard fruit open up first, followed by a range of bright citrus and floral notes that add brilliance to a very pretty upper register. ANTONIO GALLONI
…This is one of the most sophisticated white Carbonnieux that I have encountered at this stage with wonderful mineralité and veins of ginger furnishing the finish that convey brio and confidence. This should evolve into an outstanding Pessac-Léognan. NEAL MARTIN, vinous.com
Right off the bat this has richness and concentration, with peachy creaminess through the mid-palate but without sacrificing tension and lift. It's a fine example of what 2017 can deliver in the best whites, and should age very well. JANE ANSON, decanter.com
Notes of lemon curd, citrus rind and hints of crushed rock define the 2017 Château Carbonnieux, which is medium-bodied, pure, and elegant on the palate. It's another great white from the Pessac-Léognan region in 2017. JEB DUNNUCK2017Sem/Sauv BlendFrance356$135.00 -
Coutet 2017 375ml
Barsac 1er Cru Classé
Avaliable
The 2017 Coutet, which was tasted both as a final blend and directly from several different lots in barrel, has a very well defined bouquet with pure wild honey and orange blossom aromas that gain intensity with aeration. The palate is crisp and fresh, underpinned by Coutet’s trademark acidic drive that counterbalances the intense honeyed fruit laced with orange zest and white peach. Superb. (96) NEAL MARTINThe 2017 Coutet is very, very good. Nuanced and beautifully textured, throughout, the 2017 has quite a bit to offer. Silky contours add finesse to the orange peel, apricot jam, mint and spice flavors. Above all else, Coutet offers terrific depth while remaining light on its feet. ANTONIO GALLONI

Coutet 2009
A triumph for the vintage with spices, dried mushroom, dried pineapple, peaches, and honey. Full and sweet with bright acidity and a long, intense finish. Powerful wine. This could be the best Coutet ever. JAMES SUCKLING
The Coutet 2009 is a sensational effort from Philippe Baly and his team. It has a fragrant nose of honey, vervain tea, pineapple, frangipane and apple-blossom, well defined if needing a little more vigour at the moment. The palate is vibrant on the entry, informed by touches of apricot and orange peel, very focused and tensile towards the long, sensuous, viscous finish. It has the same minerality exuded by Doisy-Daene and reminds me of a stellar '62 tasted just a few weeks previously. A magnificent Coutet. (98) NEAL MARTIN
Intense exotic fruits abound, powerful apricot, nectarine, white flowers and white truffles with excellent bitter almonds on the finish that works so well as a counterpoint to the luxurious texture. I love this, silky and seductive yet strict. (97) DECANTER, tasted 2020

Pewsey Vale Contours Riesling 2016 Cellar ReleaseSo vibrant for it’s age, this has great concentration of candied-lime and grapefruit-zest character. Terrific structure and energy on the driving palate, but all of this is wrapped in rich citrus fruit to create stunningly complete harmony. Very long and compact finish that suggests this has at least a further decade of aging potential. JAMES SUCKLING
Pale colour. Classic developed lime, toasty aromas and flavours with hints of oilskin and sage. The palate is superbly balanced and in clockwork condition with attractive fruit complexity, underlying minerally notes, fine lacy textures, very good mid-palate viscosity and fine linear fresh acidity. A touch al-dente at the finish. A beautiful example of Eden Valley Riesling showing the fidelity of vineyard site and masterful winemaking. Markus Molitor Riesling Alte Reben (White Cap) 2020The 2020 Riesling Alte Reben Mosel (White Capsule) offers a pure and crystalline slate bouquet with ripe and well-concentrated Riesling fruit. Lush and ripe on the palate, this is a very elegant, fresh and tensioned Riesling with intensely aromatic and sustainable fruit and mineral and tannic grip. A fabulous Riesling again and the best representative of Mosel Riesling you can get at this price. STEPHAN REINHARDT, Wine Advocate
Very attractive nose of white and yellow peach, as well as some blossom. Ripe and well structured, but also clean and bright, without a jot too much weight or volume. This is a very classic dry Mosel. Long, complete finish with serious mineral complexity. STUART PIGOTT, jamessuckling.com

Amalaya Torrontes Riesling 2024Amalaya, 'a hope for a miracle' is a nod to local farmers who made offerings hoping for an abundant, high quality harvest each year. The mix of torrontes and riesling has an intense musky scent under a mix of lemons and flowers. A strong stony mineral thread cuts through the grapefruit and sweet lime finish. A unique and fun wine to play with around food. The Amalaya blanco blend is made with organic grapes grown around 1675 metres. ANTHONY GISMONDI

Zind Humbrecht Riesling Roche Roulee 2021
Stunning citrus fruit, generous body and excellent concentration with a vibrant acidity makes this a very expressive and appealing dry riesling, that does all the things people expect from Sancerre which it doesn't always deliver. Long invigorating finish STUART PIGOTT, jamessuckling.com
The nose is wonderfully flinty with promising reduction. The palate is dry, rather serene and round. Subtle flavors of sun-ripened Mirabelle skin appear on the mid-palate, then tapers to a long, taut lemon finish. The bone-dry lemon zestiness has a long echo. (Bone-dry) ANNE KREBIEHL MW, Vinous
Vivacious and uber refreshing, this positively hums with a primal energy and delivers it all with an emphatic snap of rocky mineral tension that clings to the medium bodied, pithy, zesty fruit that struts across your mouth like it has somewhere important to be. I love its vim and vigour, at no point is your palate not fully engaged and enlivened. It carries all this character with seeming ease as it slowly unwinds at the back.
The next day there was a distinct florality and a potent lemon oil note that really got me excited. Also the more textural, phenolic, extract components were a little more positively influential. This speaks volumes for the wines ability to age and evolve gracefully in the bottle, but it's a thrill to drink now. Gorgeous. ROSCOE2021RieslingFrance343$75.00 As low as $67.50 -

Richter Estate Riesling 2021The 2021 Richter Estate Riesling (or Riesling Feinherb in some markets) offers a clear and aromatic bouquet of ripe and savory Riesling fruit intertwined with coolish flinty notes. Round and juicy on the palate, this is a savory and salty, very charming and mouth-filling Riesling with stimulating grip and the concentration of partly very old vines cultivated in the cooler side valleys that give more acidity than the vineyards in the main Mosel Valley. This is a convincing, textured and very quaffable Riesling with a stimulating saline finish. 10.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in July 2022. Egon Muller Scharzhofberger Riesling Auslese 2022
A cornucopia of ripe summer fruits and flowers pour from the glass of this spectacular Saar Auslese, it's difficult to tear yourself away from the nose. Serious concentration on the medium- to full-bodied palate but in a self-confidently relaxed manner. No drama, much less pomposity. Instead, ever more compelling as it flows over the palate. Fabulous textural complexity at the finely-nuanced finish. Decades of ageing potential! Drink or hold. STUART PIGOTT
The 2022 Riesling Scharzhofberger Auslese is still closed on the nose. It takes a lot of swirling to awaken passionfruit and citrus hints. The palate is rich and concentrated with grapefruit-edged peach preserve, almost peppery with its grapefruit spice. Intense yet balanced, fresh, and harmonious. Citrus savor, tart and aromatic, highlights the essential and inherent finesse. Nothing is too much, yet there is baffling intensity. Beautiful. Grapefruit and peach flavors shine on the long finish. (Sweet) ANNE KREBIEHL MW
… a noble-sweet wine made from botrytized fruit. It offers a superbly refreshing yet delicately aromatic nose of minty herbs, candied grapefruit, pineapple, passionfruit, and licorice. The wine is impressive and rich on the fully noble-sweet and intense palate. The feeling of acidity is on the lower side, making this come over as comparatively broad and powerful. The finish is super impressive and hugely long. This mighty and intense Auslese needs a long cellaring time before true greatness. 2037-2072. MOSEL REPORT

Markus Molitor Riesling Urziger Wurzgarten Kabinett (Gold Cap) 2021Flinty, reductive funk covers up the nose of the 2021 Riesling Ürziger Würzgarten Kabinett Gold Capsule, but the palate comes in with a sweetness combining Granny Smith apple crunch with barley sugar and chervil crushed with salt. The freshness of 2021 cuts through and delivers phenomenal lemon length. Total verve. ANNE KREBIEHL MW, Vinous
The 2021 Riesling Ürziger Würzgarten Kabinett (Golden Capsule) is clear and very delicate on the saline and flinty nose. On the palate, this is a lush and round, almost creamy-textured Kabinett with fine and crystalline acidity and a savory-pure and refreshing grippy finish. It's almost dry in taste due to the low pH of the 2021 vintage and the pure red slate terroir of Molitor's Würzgarten. This is a complex Kabinett with a very long and mouth-watering finish. Schloss Gobelsburg Gaisberg Riesling 2021
The 2021 Riesling Ried Gaisberg is on gneiss, schist and amphibolite.
Crushed ivy and citrus leaf overlay an almost savory, salty notion of wet earth. The palate is rounded and juicy-almost bouncy with lively energy. Bright, lemon-fringed stone fruit notes skip away in such a joyful fashion that the underlying stony seriousness is almost skipped over. In coming years, the stoniness will gain the upper hand, but, for now, the playfulness of these aromas-leafy top notes and citric charm-quite rightly enjoy the limelight. This is lovely and slender, with a serious, stony, cool core and a beautifully long finish. (Bone-dry) ANNE KREBIEHL MW, wineadvocate.comDelightfully blatantly aromatic - I mean three-feet-from-the-glass aromatic. Did I mention it also smells marvelous?…This wine, while snappy and bracing in the '21 "type," is a rare success in the everyday echelon… The wine leads with verbena, lemon balm and hyssop; it's more herbal than precisely mineral… It shows a sort of macro-terroir of Kamptal - of Austria overall, really - and while the weight and outlines are sleek and cool, the flavors are purely Austrian… It's another wine that held steady over the days…It's also the kind of wine I call "coniferous," (or fir when I'm being literal and Christmas Tree when I'm being colorful…) TERRY THEISE
The Riesling terraces are among the oldest vineyards cultivated by Schloss Gobelsburg. Complex aromas of ripe stone fruit and toast. A rich and powerful spice is outlined with just enough fruit and stone to carry it all the way home. Lively, shaping acidity and delicate citrus finish. Hiedler Gaisberg Riesling 2021
Sourced from two terraces and predominantly rooting in a rocky subsoil of paragneiss, Hiedler's 2021 Ried Gaisberg 1ÖTW Riesling is dense and spicy on the nose, showing ripe and concentrated bright fruit with subtle earthy notes. Round and elegant on the palate, with juicy richness, well-integrated mineral acidity and persistent ripe fruit flavors on the salty, grippy finish, this is still a young Gaisberg but with promising potential. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. STEPHAN RHEINHARDT, vinous.com
Anyone who thinks that dry riesling is always lean and austere should dive into this deep pool of ripe peach and apricot to discover the grape's sensual side. Generous and creamy, but without any sense of weight, this combines ripeness with zesty freshness at the bright finish. Drink or hold. STUART PIGOTT
Gaisberg is often spectral, as if its flavors were placed in your hands by a ghost dressed as a bride. Part of that is present here, but there's also a quantum concentration of mineral, catapulted upward by a slingshot of acidity. The wine is so amazing it borders on the implausible.
The grip and the mere impact on the physical palate are impossible to resist. Yet there a higher octave of flavor that wisps up into the air like the vapors from frozen nitrogen. It's a concatenation of lemons and freesia; it alludes to basmati; it alludes, hauntingly, to white peaches and to blueberries, part of an incipience of sweetness that turns it from prose into music.
It's introverted but passionate, classical but not stodgy, and it is in every way wonderful. It almost isn't "Riesling" any more. It's just Gaisberg; I know it from Gobelsburg and Hirsch, and this site is quite particular, spectral and subtle; it whispers its strange tongue and you feel an opiate tingle - What is this wine doing to me? It smells a little like Champagne, this cool high chiming, this cryptic bliss. It is a very rare wine, that delivers as many poignant questions as this one does. Lafaurie Peyraguey 2017 375ml
A wine of stunning beauty, the 2017 Lafaurie-Peyraguey is so remarkably vivid from the very first taste. All the elements simply fall into place effortlessly. Orchard fruit, tangerine, passion fruit mint and exotic floral overtones all grace this precise, wonderfully inviting Sauternes from Silvio Denz. Lafaurie-Peyraguey is pure and total finesse. (97) ANTONIO GALLONI
A wine with fresh, clean botrytis influence and lemon curd, sliced apricot, dried apricot and apricot confiture. This has striking purity with such intense flavors of peach and apricot custard, apricot pastry and a very elegant and supple, fleshy-fruit texture with acidity that holds such freshness on the finish. Coutet 2016
One of the top sweet wines in this report is the 2016 Château Coutet, which has the vintage's plush, opulent style as well as thrilling purity and good acids. Pineapple, white flowers, sugared peach, and honeyed notes all emerge from this full-bodied, layered, balanced Barsac that's already impossible to resist yet will evolve gracefully 2+ decades. (97) JEB DUNNUCK
The vibrant, tropical fruit-coulis character draws you into this concentrated and elegant Barsac. Then the crisp acidity and a wave of lemon and mineral character comes through, driving the finish out in the direction of the horizon. (95) JAMES SUCKLING
Oh that's lovely. Ginger and sumac spice, and a gorgeous richness with the perfect balance of minerality. Rich but pure botrytis character and gently curling smoky notes leap out of the glass. Amazing persistency, easily one of the best wines in the tasting. This is excellent; succulent and mouthwatering. (96) DECANTER
With coaxing, the pale lemon colored 2016 Coutet slowly unfurls to give a myriad of preserved lemons, pineapple pastry, almond croissant, fresh ginger and lime blossoms scents with nuances of chalk dust, white pepper, star anise and cedar. Rich, seductive and yet exquisitely balanced, the satiny-textured palate has layer upon layer of citrus and savory notions, finishing very long and spicy. (97) WINE ADVOCATE

Sauternes (1st Growth)
The Chateau Lafaurie Peyraguey has an ebullient nose of Tropicana, dried honey and quince that intensifies in the glass whilst maintaining impressive definition. Eva Fricke Rheingau Riesling Lorchhäuser Seligmacher QBA 2022
What an extraordinary nose of pink grapefruit, Thai basil and flint. This medium-bodied dry riesling is extremely focused and racy, but also wonderfully juicy, and the interplay of these two sides is like ying and yang. Electric energy powers the extremely long, stony and spicy finish. Great aging potential! From organically grown grapes. Vegan. Drink or hold. (97) STUART PIGGOT
Riesling Lorcher Seligmacher has a gentle nose of Navel orange flesh, fresh, fruity and ripe. More air gives a sense of ripe, sweet apple flesh. The palate is juicy and bright. The concentration drives home a sense of zestiness, but there is a fill of orange flesh juiciness. The finish is dry, but this is richer, rounder, beautifully juicy and serene. It finishes just about off-dry with more of those lovely ripe citrus notes. (Off-dry) ANNE KREBIEHL MW

Dr Loosen Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling GG 2022
The 2022 Riesling Wehlener Sonnenuhr Alte Reben Grosses Gewächs was made from centenarian vines, in the family since 1911. The nose hints at creaminess but not much more. The palate comes in with a lovely, pithy astringency coating the mouth with citrus intensity. This fills mouth and mind with stony elegance and citrus vividness, finishing on Meyer lemon edged with grapefruit spiciness. Very balanced, harmonious, zesty. Elegant. (Dry) ANNE KREBIEHL MW
????This needs a moment’s aeration for the fine stone fruit aromas to emerge. Stunning concentration and succulence, but also impeccable balance this is a great Mosel GG that will give so much pleasure in the years to come. Robert Weil Kiedrich Grafenberg GG Riesling Trocken 2022The 2022 Riesling Kiedricher Gräfenberg Grosses Gewächs has a notion of tangerine alongside yellow plum, followed by yellow plum skin and citrus peel. The palate is juicy, almost bouncy, with Reine Claude's vividness, pervaded by zesty, ripe lemon resting on a gentle layer of yeast. It's concentrated, almost allowing glimpses of more distant, tropical fruit, yet all within that frame of citric freshness. It shows tautness, linearity, direction and energy with Weil’s drive, yet it is always cool and dynamic. We only see a fraction of this power at this point, but it is undoubtedly there. The vivid aroma of these stone fruits is delineated on the palate, boosted by residual sweetness like sorbet made from the fruit, melting on the palate and releasing its aroma moment by moment, reaching a peak of creamy peach ice cream, always tempered by vivid freshness and a tangy citrus edge. Just so elegant, so zesty, so beautiful, so balanced. Squeaky clean, elegant, striking and delicious. (Sweet) ANNE KREBIEHL MW, Vinous2022RieslingGermany465$190.00 As low as $171.00

Robert Weil Kiedricher Riesling Trocken 2022The 2022 Riesling Kiedricher is from two upper parcels in the of the Wasseros, above the Gräfenberg, which means rivulet, evident in small springs, fed by the forested top of the slope, also on mica schist. This is higher and cooler. One-third is made in wood and two-thirds in stainless steel, from ripe and super-clean fruit. The nose is aromatic, suggesting Reine Claude plum, white peach and green pear skin. Clarity also defines the palate where riper stone fruit shines, framed by grapefruit skin. This has serenity, tautness and substance, despite slenderness. Mouth-watering zestiness appears on the finish. This is a real achievement at an annual volume of more than 100,000 bottles. Frankland Estate Isolation Ridge Riesling 2023
One of the very best Isolation Ridge rieslings produced. It’s from an exceptional vintage showing the pristine purity and minerally tension of great rieslings. Comes from a combination of clones planted in 1988. Now this is not your usual riesling. It was left on lees for nine months and about 10% was matured in oak. The result is a wine of tremendous texture, with an intricate weave of fine acid and intensely flavoured fruit. Has a crunchy vibrant minerality on the finish. Exceptional wine. (97) RAY JORDAN, Wine Pilot
Sourced from the original 1988 plantings on ironstone gravels over clay. Some guava and dried mango exoticism, makrut lime leaves and wet stones. It's super precise and poised, a wine of balletic balance with a piercing acid line of jaw dropping intensity and drive. A masterclass in coiled tension, restrained power and the beauty of Frankland River riesling. (97) NICK RYAN, Weekend Australian

One of the great rieslings of Australia. This is textural as much as pure, with lime blossom, ginger flower and a touch of beeswax. Flavours of Bickford's lime cordial, lemon curd, mandarin and zest caress the palate; the talcy-fine acidity is lipsmacking. (96) JANE FAULKNER2021RieslingAustralia504$55.00 As low as $49.50 -
Frankland Estate Smith Cullam Riesling 2023If Isolation Ridge is a melt-in-your-mouth kind of Riesling, Smith Cullam is all racy, ceaseless energy in the glass. It offers quite the contrast, even though the fruit is also sourced from the Isolation Ridge vineyard. Speaks with an airy, floral aroma intensity, citrus and talc. Hunter Smith’s winemaking breaks the usual Aussie Riesling mould in its use of whole bunches and fermentation (40%) in seasoned 500L oak as well as in stainless steel, followed by nine months on lees. Delicate, lemony and spicy with a barley sugar-like sweet tingle on the middle palate. Texture is building and a distinctive flintiness combined with vibrant acidity completes one impressive Riesling. And, it might be added, it’s very much a young wine in building mode. Chateau d'Yquem 2021
Dreamy, subtle aromas of dried fruit such as apricots and mangoes, but also fresh lemons and pears. Then there are caramel and tart tatin undertones with some bananas, pineapple, tangerines and other tropical fruit. Full-bodied, yet it remains vivid and compact, giving it a lightness even though it is really structured. The tannins are throughout the palate but blend in perfectly, giving it a solid presence, like a a diamond. It's tight at the end, but you know that it will linger for ages, with a lightly chewy and intellectual finish. Touches of sweetness, cloves and bitterness to make it interesting. Dynamic. (100) JAMES SUCKLING
I find this more direct and intense than the 2020. Yet this is also a wine that exudes balance and harmony, even at this nascent stage. Beautifully limpid and with a disguised natural power. Supremely aerial. Green apple skin. Saffron. Fresh ginger. A hint of confit ginger too. Lime. White grapefruit. A touch of fleur de sel. Marzipan. White almonds. Mango. Guava. Passionfruit. Pineapple - entirely pure and crisply fresh. All in great purity. This is floral, too. Mimosa. Buttercup (almost the leitmotif here). On the palate I find this tight and tense, yet so incredibly softly textured. And, above all, intense and captivating. Sparklingly striking and dynamic - and held together by the salinity as much as by the acidity, the two in fact working together, giving this an incredible aging potential. Delicate in its intensity. Sapid and with lovely waves of saline-inflected juicy fluidity. Even now this is a wine of very considerable complexity - built from assembling the finest botrytised grapes from the best of the couronne (the crown) of Bommes (with the Château of Yquem at the epicentre). This finishes with the most glorious bitter sugar note - burnt caramel just perfectly on the edge of bitterness. So accessible but so totally ageless and, for now, almost cool in its freshness. (99) COLIN HAY, Drinks Business
Beautiful primary fruit boasting tropical complexity: mango, pineapple. Saltiness, according to the winemaker - and there is definitely savoury contrast in there. The marvel of this wine is its completeness - the stitching is so fine between the sugar, acidity, rich fruit and length. Opens up in the glass, with white chocolate, caramel, clotted cream, mixed peel, five-spice. As prestigious as ever, and so gratifying to drink right now. (19) JANCIS ROBINSON MW
The complex aromatic profile explodes from the glass with pineapple, papaya, apricot, Meyer lemon, tangerine peels, caramel, honey, vanilla, saffron, cashews, and candied grapefruit in the aromatic profile. The palate resides perfectly in the middle of hedonism, and vibrancy. Clearly, there is ample sweetness, but the racy acidity provides incredible lift, energy, and length. The fruit expresses purity in its tangerines, oranges, mango, papaya, banana, and pineapples all slathered in honey. This is one of those Yquem's that can be enjoyed either as a sweet wine, or due to its vibrancy, with a diverse array of savory, and spicy dishes. Produced from a blend of 65% Semillon and 35% Sauvignon Blanc, 148 Grams per liter, 14% ABV, 3.79 pH. Yields were only 8 hectoliters per hectare. The harvest took place over an extended time, September 12 - October 27, with 4 passes in total. As you can see, the harvest was quite long, but picking the heart of vintage took place mid-to late October. (98) WINE CELLAR INSIDER
