  6. Ogier Condrieu Les Vieilles Vignes de Jacques Vernay 2019
Ogier Condrieu Les Vieilles Vignes de Jacques Vernay 2019
A beauty, offering a more fruit-forward, sexy, supple style as well as textbook peach, white flowers, and honeysuckle aromas and flavors. Textured and balanced, with a great finish, it's ideal for drinking over the coming 4-6 years. JEB DUNNUCK

The vintage plays an inevitable role here, it is a gorgeous rendition of this wine, the white that accompanies Stephanes revered reds, and has the track record to back it up, as well as the mountains of press. This is the current release to Australia and the few years in the bottle have drawn out more of those robust, ripe and rich stone fruit notes. It's still essentially a pup but you see some move towards expansion on the palate and more nuance now on the nose. More clearly defined aromatics that offer up hedonistic and sweetly perfumed fruit, wild flowers, nectarine and a glass full of mixed citrus juice (only way I can think of describing that character). It leans in to sensuality in the mouth, there it caresses as it easily fills your palate with its delectable fruit salad like array of flavours. It is easy to miss the force behind it, almost, it really hits the finish hard with a burst of rocky minerality and an emphatic punch of intensity that leaves your palate feeling stained. For me this is where I would like to drink this wine. While both youthful enthusiasm and some richer elements are at play. There is no doubt in my mind that most fans of Condrieu will ignore that and throw this in the cellar for a decade. Don't get me wrong, the wine will be super then too. I just love the power that 19 brings with the vigour and liveliness of Stephane's style and I find this part of its life to be particularly enjoyable. It's a tremendous effort. ROSCOE

Distellerie Francoli Antico Amaro Noveis (700ml)
The Savastano family on the island of Ischia have been making liqueurs since 1880. Their most famous, Rucolino, is made using locally grown rocket leaves and the islands famous lemons. A dark amaro, its not as heavy and syrupy as many in the category and is great served straight from the freezer. Herbal bitterness perfectly balances butterscoth and caramel in this delecious amaro. 9. Bowerbird Viognier 2023
    Bowerbird Viognier 2023

Classic Victorian wines don't get much better than this. If you are unfamiliar with Bowerbird Wines (very little wine is made) then you're in for a real treat here. Mouth-coating, textural, full-flavoured wines that offer bountiful pleasure right to the very last drop.

Kirilly Gordon is a quiet achiever. Her force is much greater than her stance. The humble Bowerbird Wines is the most underrated producer in the state. By day she's Denton in the Yarra and by night Bowerbird Wines soar. Kirilly's turning point in the wine industry was working at Bindi, where inspiration by Bill and Michael Dhillon came to the realisation that nurturing vines and grapes to create delicious quality wines is a pretty great way to live a full life. And I'm very glad about that.

Don't judge a book by its cover here. On first open it's steely with laser-like precision and just-ripe stone fruit, lemon curd and a delightful saline edge. As it opens in the glass we see it unfold. Ripe peach, honeysuckle and fresh nut characters alongside the Bowerbird silky finesse that holds everything together.  A serious wine jam-packed with flavour and refreshment. KAYLEEN REYNOLDS, pws

  13. Yeringberg Viognier 2022
    Yeringberg Viognier 2022
Barrel fermented and matured for 10 months in large-format oak. A bright green gold. A hedonistic bouquet of ripe nectarines and apricots together with glacé ginger and honey. Textured but not overdone on the palate, which is gently saline and very nicely balanced. It’s delicious now, but this has enough of everything to still be looking good three to four years from now too. A truly lovely example. (96) PHILIP RICH, winecompanion.com

  14. La Valdotaine Di Leone Amaro (700ml)
La Valdotaine Di Leone Amaro (700ml)
Dente de Leone (Italian for "wild dandelion") is a common plant whose roots, leaves and flowers are all edible. Traditionally, it was a base for herbal medicines and liqueurs and is believed to be beneficial for health and digestion.
Amaro Dente di Leone is made from the mountain variety with its smaller, heartier leaves and intense aroma. This Amaro blends dandelion with gentian and genepy herbs. Brown with intense orange hues obtained from muscovado sugar without the addition of caramel. The fragrances of the herbs used in the recipe emerge, blended with the characteristic aroma of Dandelion. Full and round, balanced in the alcoholic note and with the typical taste tending to liquorice of muscovado.

  16. Mery Melrose Pineau des Charentes Blanc 17.5% 750ml
Mery Melrose Pineau des Charentes Blanc 17.5% 750ml
Love this stuff! The perfect aperitif on its own, a bit of ice and even a spritz of soda if you wanted to make this a little longer. Made with un-fermented, fresh colombard grapes then spiked with young Cognac and aged a little in barrel.

Aromas of passion fruit with hints of honey, orange peel and dried spice. Sweet and fresh, cut with nice acidity to balance it all out. White negroni anyone?
