Chateau du Rouet Cuvee Reserve Rose 2021 375ml
Never judge a book buy it's cover right? Mostly, you see the colour of this and you at least know you are on good footing to begin with. It's pale, like a blush of peach. Properly dry with a splash of sweet citrus, mandarin, ripe red grapefruit, a just tart orange aspect and then some lovely peach notes. All this is underpinned by a bright, clear, palate cleansing freshness and a nice pithy texture that licks at the sides of your mouth. It's long and energising, it both slackens the thirst with its buoyant, uplifting feel and engages the old taste buds and sets the salivary glands quivering. Who doesn't love Rose like this? It's so enjoyable to drink. ROSCOE

  3. Pike Road - By Elk Cove Chardonnay 2021
Pike Road - By Elk Cove Chardonnay 2021

Golden Delicious apple and sweet Elberta peach aromas encircle the head, with a touch of thyme and spicy cinnamon basil. This is a crisp, lighter-bodied Chardonnay that delivers white peach, lime and saline flavors on a laser beam of acidity. It will be difficult to resist a second glass. Best Buy. MICHAEL ALBERTY, wineenthusiast.com

Spiced nectarines, honeycomb and saline notes allude to its underlying ripeness. On the palate, it's ripe yet constrained by a savoury scaffolding of spicy oak. Earthy notes of wet pebbles and seapsray add to the wine's texture and flavour profile. The finish is pulled together by a lovely line of fine and chewy phenolics, adding to the tension and energy. Chateau du Rouet Cuvee Reserve Cotes de Provence Rose 2022
A lovely lift of red cherries, pomegranate and white nectarines leads into a fleshy and textured core. Subtle herbal tones of fennel and dried thyme and wild strawberries join in the chorus too. There's presence and intensity thanks to the riper 2022 vintage, balanced by a spine of chalky acidity. Pleasing phenolics on the finish add a tantalising chew, like biting through peach skins. A hint of white pepper to finish adds a twist (reminds me of adding pepper to strawberries, shouldn't work but it does!). Keep this delightful thirst slaker on hand this summer. GABRIELLE POY, PWS

This great pinot gris has stunning concentration and an amazing interplay of chalky, smoky and ripe yellow fruits character. Only medium-bodied, but with so much mineral power. Everything pulling together drives this along at a racy clip. (96) STUART PIGOTT, jamessuckling.com

A remarkable pinot gris that radically breaks the mold. 8. Zind Humbrecht Pinot Gris Clos Jebsal 2021
Zind Humbrecht Pinot Gris Clos Jebsal 2021

Hang on to your hat! Here’s a dense and dangerous wine for a grape most wine drinkers think can only give no-brainers. Very compact and structured with a dark personality that some may find shocking, but what makes it that way is the gypsum marl minerality that is its soul. Brain-rattling freshness at the super stony finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. (97) STUART PIGOTT, jamessuckling.com

The 2021 Pinot Gris Clos Jebsal is a monopole for Zind-Humbrecht. It is located between Brand and Heimbourg, utterly different from both, with calcareous marl and gypsum on south-facing terraces. In the past, this was dedicated to making sweeter wines with botrytis. The vines were planted in 1983. The nose has a flicker of reduction, followed by an aromatic notion of pear, freshly turned earth and orange peel. The palate has concentration and flow, a russet pear texture and a salty, cool, mouth-watering core. The saltiness is more intense than the fruit. The beautiful, bone-dry finish is very appetizing ANNE KREBIEHL MW, Vinous Media

  10. Haden Fig Willamette Pinot Gris 2022
Haden Fig Willamette Pinot Gris 2022
Alluring notes of honey and spiced pears mingle with ginger root. This is a wonderfully textured wine with spicy fruit and lilting aromatics; hazelnuts, ginger and pear blossom. Signs off with some pleasing quince-like phenolics on the finish making it a perfect food wine to cut through spicy dishes with attitude. GABRIELLE POY

    ----
Before Eric Nuccio was Evesham Wood, he was Haden Fig. His journey into winemaking began in Washington D.C., where he developed a passion for Oregon Pinot Noir while working at a respected wine retailer there. After gaining experience in wine distribution and formal education in viticulture and oenology, Nuccio and his wife moved to the Willamette Valley in Oregon. There, he apprenticed under Russ Raney, the founder of Evesham Wood Winery going on to work with him each vintage while eventually starting Haden Fig in 2007.

For his pinot gris Eric aims for a classic Alsace styling. This is achieved through thought the use of barrel fermentation in older, large format French oak. Here he is not aiming to add oak flavours or aromas but seeks out the textual elements through micro-oxygenation from time in barrel and some light lees contact. This is a wonderfully textured wine with spicy fruit and lilting aromatics that packs in the flavour and drives with wonderful energy and freshness. In 2022 the grapes are sourced from the Mahonia property and the recently purchased Torres Bros Vineyard.

Sourced from Mahonia and– the recently purchased!–Torres Bros. Vineyard; it’s barrel fermented and aged in neutral French oak. It is akin to the pinot gris imported from Alsace — this is a spiced, textured, and aromatically-driven wine.

Pinot gris has the reputation of being easygoing, but this dry pinot gris from Alsace has enormous energy and vitality. Pinot Gris, but not as you know it!
I've been obsessed with this skinsy gris since its inception, but this is my favourite vintage yet. I even took it along to this year's Australia Women in Wine Symposium in Hobart. Fruity, floral, and savoury with a bit of grip, this gris pairs well with sunshine and friends. Serve slightly chilled with charcuterie or BBQ prawns. ALLICIA

Elk Cove Estate Pinot Gris 2022
Richly complex, this is not a simple sipping Pinot Gris. The aromatics are floral and fruit-centred,
with plenty of jasmine, ripe pear and toasted almond. The palate is surprisingly rich and complex, with lanolin, beeswax and sweet stone fruit flavours. Textured and rich with candied ginger, honeyed pear and apricot to finish. This is a lot of vinous complexity. CLIVE PURSHORSE, Decanter Magazine

The 2022 Pinot Gris is scented of poached pears, almonds, meringue and bread dough. The palate is broad and creamy with generous, ripe, spicy fruit tempered by bright acidity and a long, flavorful finish. ERIN BROOKS, The Wine Advocate

  20. Solis Cotes de Provence Rose 2023
Solis Cotes de Provence Rose 2023

Solis Rose. This is the summer wine we have been waiting for. This is one of the best value Provence rose we have seen in some time and that is saying something given how much good pink is in the market at the moment.

This is pretty classic stuff in all the best ways. A touch of fresh strawberry, snappy red currants, white pepper, a touch of fairy-floss lift and oh-so-inviting sweetly floral nose. It follows with that same wild strawberry and red berry fruit all fleshy and bright with a rim of citrus peel and quartzy-like minerality edging. It punches way above its weight here and while it will go down a treat on a warms summers day its equally at home paired with any BBQ fair you might want to throw at it.

  22. Paul Blanck Pinot Gris 2021
    Paul Blanck Pinot Gris 2021

This wine sits in a range the Blancks call "Les Classiques". These are easy, accessible wines made from the traditional Alsatian grape varieties. They are fruit-driven, aromatic, dry wines that give the best of themselves within the first five to seven years, if you wish to retain their primary fruit-driven personality. The screw cap closure enhances this profile and helps the wines keep both freshness and liveliness far longer. They generally come from light soils with sand and gravel as well as sandstone or clay.

Fruit for the Blanck Pinot Gris was sourced from gravel, sand and south-facing clay and limestone vineyards. It was gently whole-bunch pressed before spontaneous alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel.

The Other Wine Co Pinot Gris 2024

Fragrant and lifted aromas of Packham pear, baked apple, melon skin, white-stone fruit and sweet spice. Fleshy, textured, bright and crunchy. There's a lovely drive of pear, nectarine and some textured, grippy phenolics. Long and very satisfying THE REAL REVIEW

This is a punter friendly wine if ever there was one. It's fruity, it's soft, it's delicious. Sweet pear and red apple flavour do all the work, and very pleasant work it is too. This wine is simple in the most untaxing and pleasurable of ways. CAMPBELL MATTINSON

A zesty wine with notes of nashi pear, Jazz apple and fresh quinces. A hint of loquat and yellow melon. Lemon skin citrus and leisurely flow to the acidity. It's laden with pear nectar fruit weight and a note of ginger jellies. A touch of white tea tannins and grip on the finish that adds an element of mealiness. THE WINE PILOT

  28. Quealy Turbul Moscato Giallo 2022
    Quealy Turbul Moscato Giallo 2022
Given this producer’s love of Italian white varieties, it was only a matter of time before this dry moscato giallo made it as a single varietal. Previously blended into Lina Lool and the zero sulphur/zero sugar Secco Splendido. This inaugural release is so good. A rose gold, copper-orange hue with lovely clarity and the aromas – just heady. Musk, Turkish delight, rosewater, lemon verbena, lychees and turmeric. It is dry and fresh, with stretchy phenolics adding some grip and give, yet there’s a mouth-watering lemon salt character and the acidity keeps this seemingly light on its feet. Alas, a mere 280 bottles produced. (95) JANE FAULKNER, Halliday Wine Companion

The perfume is just wow. Detailed, tightly packed notes and a tantalising deep golden colour. Scents of grape juice, lychee and roses. It’s honeyed blossoms, golden kiwi, quince and Mirabelles. It flows with a smooth, slightly textural, lightly creamy feel and, most importantly, the balancing sweet aromas bitter phenolic grip of green and yellow citrus in the finale. Pungent but lovely. So much power. Sugar and spice and everything nice. (93) KASIA SOBIEIAK, The Wine Front

  30. Duseigneur Lirac Antares 2021
    Duseigneur Lirac Antares 2021

Looking at the 2021s from barrel, the 2021 Lirac Antares shows the fresher style of the vintage yet still brings solid fruit and texture. Spice, violets, flowers, and lavender as well as both red and black fruits define the nose, and it's balanced, has fine tannins, and lots to like. JEB DUNNUCK

Antarès is the main star of the constellation of Scorpio. One of the basic principles of biodynamics is to work in harmony with cosmic rhythms. Antarès is a selection of vines located on hillsides facing North, at the Western end of the Lirac appellation, at an altitude of 160m. The vines are 50 years old. The harvest is fully de-stemmed. Each variety is vinified separately using  natural yeasts. The Grenache is aged in cement vats, the Mourvèdre in old French oak demi-muids  for 12 months.

60% Grenache, 40% Mouvèdre farmed organically (Certified).Notes of strawberry, black raspberries, pine, sandalwood and a hint of ground black pepper in this ripe but restrained blend. A full-bodied and concentrated wine that maintains remarkable vibrance and acidity throughout. Fine-grained tannins accentuate its youthful appeal. Supple mouthfeel, we love the generosity of mid palate filled with ripe black berries and blue fruits and spices. Beautiful Lirac for all lovers of great Southern Rhone reds.

  33. Delas Cote du Rhone Saint Esprit 2021
Delas Cote du Rhone Saint Esprit 2021

One of our favourite rhone reds year-in and year-out. There may be nothing quite as satisfying as a good value Rhone red and this one always delivers. Delas Freres is based in the beautiful northern Rhone with a large holding of their own vineyards supplemented by long-term relationships with quality growers all over the rhone. How they manage to put so much goodness into a bottle at this price is an astonishing feat to say the least.

While this indulgent red reflects the north’s regional dominance of Shiraz over Grenache, it reflects the darker fruits and a spicy earthiness often found in the southern Rhone, where this wine hails from. Silky rather than heavy, it still feels concentrated with bright, bubbly raspberry fruits complimented by a little dollop of wild, blackberry fruit. A waft of violets and pastille fruit just add to its appeal.
