The vintage plays an inevitable role here, it is a gorgeous rendition of this wine, the white that accompanies Stephanes revered reds, and has the track record to back it up, as well as the mountains of press. This is the current release to Australia and the few years in the bottle have drawn out more of those robust, ripe and rich stone fruit notes. It's still essentially a pup but you see some move towards expansion on the palate and more nuance now on the nose. More clearly defined aromatics that offer up hedonistic and sweetly perfumed fruit, wild flowers, nectarine and a glass full of mixed citrus juice (only way I can think of describing that character). It leans in to sensuality in the mouth, there it caresses as it easily fills your palate with its delectable fruit salad like array of flavours. It is easy to miss the force behind it, almost, it really hits the finish hard with a burst of rocky minerality and an emphatic punch of intensity that leaves your palate feeling stained. For me this is where I would like to drink this wine. While both youthful enthusiasm and some richer elements are at play. There is no doubt in my mind that most fans of Condrieu will ignore that and throw this in the cellar for a decade. Don't get me wrong, the wine will be super then too. I just love the power that 19 brings with the vigour and liveliness of Stephane's style and I find this part of its life to be particularly enjoyable. It's a tremendous effort. ROSCOE

Casa Rojo Machoman Tierra de Murcia Monastrell 2020Big fan of Jumilla Monastrell, there's great Monastrell made in Spain, with a ton of character. The grapes are from 13 plots of Monastrell vineyards in La Raja (where the winery is located) between the mountain ranges of El Carche and La Pila. The vines range from 20 to 70 years old sitting at 800 metres, within the wine region D.O. Jumilla, in the south of Spain. Steel tank ferment with 5 months in small French oak.Red licorice, pastille fruits, and a hint of charry savouriness and scorched earth layered in with sweet, heady spice. Black cherry, black raspberry fruit paint the palate then slowly melt away to reveal spice box and savory herbs then rushes back in with plum, blackberry compote, blueberrie, and blackcurrant that bring the finale to a luxurious finish that trails off with some dark chocolate, and tobacco.

Casa Castillo La Tendida Monastrell 2021The 2021 La Tendida is the second vintage of this wine from young vines planted between 2006 and 2010 in an area where they are going to keep growing as they transition from the valley to more limestone-rich soils in other parts of the property. It was produced with 75% Monastrell and 25% Garnacha and matured in oak foudre. It has an elegant rusticity compared with Las Gravas or Pie Franco bottlings, with a combination of herbs, flowers, earth and tree bark, with very fine tannins and a chalky finish. It has ripeness, power, elegance and balance. 40,000 bottles were produced. It was bottled in February/March 2023. Kirilly's turning point in the wine industry was working at Bindi, where inspiration by Bill and Michael Dhillon came to the realisation that nurturing vines and grapes to create delicious quality wines is a pretty great way to live a full life. And I'm very glad about that.
Don't judge a book by its cover here. On first open it's steely with laser-like precision and just-ripe stone fruit, lemon curd and a delightful saline edge. As it opens in the glass we see it unfold. Ripe peach, honeysuckle and fresh nut characters alongside the Bowerbird silky finesse that holds everything together. Raventos i Blanc Brut 'De Nit' Rosado Espumosa Cava 2021A dry pink style of sparkling, using the classic blend of xarel.lo, parellada and macabeu, along with monastrell to create an amazing pink hue to the wine. Varieties are fermented separately in stainless steel before blending to create the base wine. Minimum of 18 months on lees in bottle before disgorgement, with a tiny bit of dosage at the end.
Dry pink of great elegance. A lovely faded rose pink colour, it smells of gently boozed strawberries, dusty rose aromatics - perfumed without any outrageous fruitiness or excess. Nice false sweetness on entry -the balance is ultimately off-dry, juicy and gentle, with high quality delicate bubbles underpinning the fruit, cutting the fruitiness and running on to a super-gently acid close.

Yeringberg Viognier 2022Barrel fermented and matured for 10 months in large-format oak. A bright green gold. A hedonistic bouquet of ripe nectarines and apricots together with glacé ginger and honey. Textured but not overdone on the palate, which is gently saline and very nicely balanced. It’s delicious now, but this has enough of everything to still be looking good three to four years from now too. A truly lovely example.
