I think this is the first time I have ever put a Prosecco to my nose and exclaimed, 'oh wow'. This smells simply lovely. Intensely appley – all at once ripe, green-skinned, crunchy, baked, caramelised. And with a hint of angelica. Bone dry on the palate with a fine fizz. Apples, but fresh and green and super-crisp. This is a blend with grenache Blanc grown at the De Bortoli Melville's vineyard on the eastern edge of the Rutherglen region. The marsanne and roussanne are grown on the De Bortoli Shelley's Vineyard which is approximately 800m from the Melvilles Vineyard.
Picked in the cool of the morning and handled gently with non-oxidative winemaking techniques and cool temperatures at every stage. The wines were 100% fermented in stainless steel tanks to ensure they maintained all of their varietal freshness, crispness and great acidity.
The palate is fresh and crisp with a crunchy drinkability and textural mouth-filling palate. The blend has flavours of pears, apples, minerals and herbs, which follows onto the palate with a delicate richness and textured dry finish.
