    From 1975 plantings in Blewitt Spring, riesling (70%) and semillon (30%) are picked together, kept on skins for a couple of days, then basket pressed for co-ferment in old barrels and one steel vat. This is a fuller-bodied expression of two varieties that are often represented in more trim form. Lightly oily and saline of feel, this still has zest and verve, with pungent lime oil, stone fruit, lemon pith, mint, fresh fenugreek and a bitter tonic note. It's an engagingly eccentric blend.     Domaine Joly Cotes du Jura Poulsard 2022
    Managed by Cédric Joly, Domaine Joly encompasses approximately 6.5 hectares and offers a comprehensive range of Jura wines. The reds are vinified from fully destemmed grapes and fermented with indigenous yeasts, with about 15 days of skin contact. They age for a relatively short period of six to seven months, leading to an early release.  Joly explains, "When I took over from my father 30 years ago, he instilled in me the idea that it's easier to correct a wine with a little chaptalization rather than playing around with artificial acidities. That's why I'm usually the first to harvest grapes compared to neighboring vineyards.”

    Chateau Montravel Blanc (Semillon) 2016
    This is a 100% Sémillon form a 1 hectare vineyard located in Montravel, a sub-region of Bergerac.
    The grapes are hand harvested in small lug boxes, bunches are selected one by one. Pressed in an air tight press, the must is then barrel fermented and the wine aged on fine lees with regular batonnage. Aged for eleven months in 1/3 new, 1/3 one year old and 1/3 in two years old oak barrels.

    I love this wine - Semillion grown on chalk with a minerally intense core. It is opulent and dense yet has great freshness. A slight touch of stuck match reduction adds complexity to a lifted bright nose of citrus and minerally notes. Great power and mouth coating flavour and yet finishes crisp and clean. ALEX WILCOX
