Lovely balance with a freshness and nervy energy that you expect from the style but so often don’t receive. Chateau du Rouet Cuvee Reserve Rose 2021 375mlNever judge a book buy it's cover right? Mostly, you see the colour of this and you at least know you are on good footing to begin with. It's pale, like a blush of peach. Properly dry with a splash of sweet citrus, mandarin, ripe red grapefruit, a just tart orange aspect and then some lovely peach notes. All this is underpinned by a bright, clear, palate cleansing freshness and a nice pithy texture that licks at the sides of your mouth. It's long and energising, it both slackens the thirst with its buoyant, uplifting feel and engages the old taste buds and sets the salivary glands quivering. Who doesn't love Rose like this? Chateau du Rouet Cuvee Reserve Cotes de Provence Rose 2022A lovely lift of red cherries, pomegranate and white nectarines leads into a fleshy and textured core. Subtle herbal tones of fennel and dried thyme and wild strawberries join in the chorus too. There's presence and intensity thanks to the riper 2022 vintage, balanced by a spine of chalky acidity. Pleasing phenolics on the finish add a tantalising chew, like biting through peach skins. The Speri’s presence in this winemaking heartland goes back to 1874, though the original homestead and cellars are even older - 1580. La Dama Vini Valpolicella Classico 2023I do like Valpolicella, especially when it’s red fruited, balanced, and easy to drink, which is what this wine delivers. Strawberry, white pepper, a dusty frame of tannin, a sweetness to poached strawberry and raspberry, a little blood orange, with a peppery finish of good length. Puts me in mind of Pelaverga in a way, and there’s that low key energy to the wine that makes it so appealing. A little bit of ripe tomato tang, new leather, and lots of red fruited and spicy interest. Modern, fresh yet compelling wines coaxed from organically farmed vineyards in the fabled commune of Negrar, home to some of the great names including the legendary Giuseppe Quintarelli.Their 10 hectare estate has been certified organic since 2015 and works only with the native varieties of Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, and Molinara. Oak influence is kept to a minimum in order to ensure the vineyard speaks for itself in the glass.
Opens with wild forest fruits, a touch of red currant flecked throughout and dusted with sweet, peppery spice. Silky fruit, super vibrant and punchy packed with flavour but delivered in La Dama's typical ethereal style. A little dark cherry, a splash of blackberry, and a touch of wild strawberry fruit too. Finishes long and fresh. Another great drop.

Solis Cotes de Provence Rose 2023Solis Rose. This is the summer wine we have been waiting for. This is one of the best value Provence rose we have seen in some time and that is saying something given how much good pink is in the market at the moment.
This is pretty classic stuff in all the best ways. A touch of fresh strawberry, snappy red currants, white pepper, a touch of fairy-floss lift and oh-so-inviting sweetly floral nose. It follows with that same wild strawberry and red berry fruit all fleshy and bright with a rim of citrus peel and quartzy-like minerality edging. It punches way above its weight here and while it will go down a treat on a warms summers day its equally at home paired with any BBQ fair you might want to throw at it.

Antarès is the main star of the constellation of Scorpio. One of the basic principles of biodynamics is to work in harmony with cosmic rhythms. Antarès is a selection of vines located on hillsides facing North, at the Western end of the Lirac appellation, at an altitude of 160m. The vines are 50 years old. The harvest is fully de-stemmed. Each variety is vinified separately using natural yeasts. The Grenache is aged in cement vats, the Mourvèdre in old French oak demi-muids for 12 months.

Delas Cote du Rhone Saint Esprit 2021One of our favourite rhone reds year-in and year-out. There may be nothing quite as satisfying as a good value Rhone red and this one always delivers. Delas Freres is based in the beautiful northern Rhone with a large holding of their own vineyards supplemented by long-term relationships with quality growers all over the rhone. How they manage to put so much goodness into a bottle at this price is an astonishing feat to say the least.
While this indulgent red reflects the north’s regional dominance of Shiraz over Grenache, it reflects the darker fruits and a spicy earthiness often found in the southern Rhone, where this wine hails from. Silky rather than heavy, it still feels concentrated with bright, bubbly raspberry fruits complimented by a little dollop of wild, blackberry fruit. A waft of violets and pastille fruit just add to its appeal.

La Dama Vini Valpolicella Classico Superiore Ca Besi 2019A wine that originated from where the Valpolicella tadition of drying grapes and the freshness and fragrance of grapes pressed during harvest are combined. This gives birth to a wine of great concentration and elegance, where the freshness suprises when countered by the dark, sweet fruits and long persistent palate.
This skirts such a lovely middle-ground and the lighter, fresher style we see from La Dama is given a little oomph and lick of pizzaz that is hard not to love. Pepper and camphor on the nose with dark roasted ground spice and a Campari like citrus flourish. It belies what comes after which seems so pretty and energetic but matched with some lovey dark, broody fruit that swims around a concentrated but focused core. It comes of subtle and persistent and ultimately so readily appealing. A very cool drop!
