A minerally backing, juicy acidity and impressive length. This will be better in 12 months and should drink beautifully for the following five to six years, possibly considerably more. Well this is the Gin Gin clone from Karridale, gets the whole malo thing, and 40% new oak. Heavy bottles still, unlike Leeuwin and Cullen, who are leading the way in this respect.Powerful wine, and glossy, and buttery, cashew nut richness, toast. ginger and clove, with some struck match, pear and grapefruit. It’s a slippery viscous and powerful affair, toffee and grapefruit, mango richness, maybe a little bit brassy and bold, but saline and savoury to close, with a finish of fine length and chalky texture. From two leui dits - Les Clous Perrons, les Magnys - in Meursault with time on lees in barrel to bring weight and texture with 12 months and 10% new oak. From vines 50+ and 25+ years old. Again those beautifully handled lees add something to both the feel of the wine and its aromatic profile. That is one of the hallmarks of these wines and its great to see at this level. Ample roundness and generosity, but there is zip and pep too. Salty minerality here! Very good Bourgogne. Better than its classification.

Kenzie Waiohinganga Chardonnay 2022Grown on deep alluvial river sands and stone left behind by the Esk River, vines experience a maritime influence where warm, dry days are followed by a cool sea breeze.
Handpicked fruit was wholebunch pressed direct to 500L puncheons with full solids. 10% of which was new French oak. After a few days, wild fermentation spontaneously started and progressed for 20 days with a maximum temperature of 24 deg C.
Post fermentation the wine was stirred a few times and left to mature at cool and allowed to go through full Malolactic Fermentation. Stirring every 3- 4 weeks. Minimal sulphur was added after 5 months. After a total of 9 months of barrel maturation the wine was racked to tank for bottling. No fining or filtration.

The walls of the Clos make this an early ripener. Vines planted in 1997 but some which are on 161/49 need to be pulled out. Lemon and lime in colour. An attractive fresh nose, with a little bit of lime blossom. The palate has a delicious energy underpinned by the minerality of this site, it is generous but well balanced. Lovely wine. Fruit off the 35-year-old Robinson vineyard, hand picked and pressed to barrel, 30% new French oak plus a portion to 1000L stainless steel eggs; 50% undergoes mlf. Expect stone fruit and invigorating lemon flavours, lots of blossom and ginger spice, flint, and the funky sulphides entice immensely. The fuller-bodied palate gives way to creamed honey and lemon curd with the oak neatly integrated adding shape and spicy flavours, too. This turns out moreish and savoury. Another glass please. Cristom Eola Amity Hills Chardonnay 2022From eight different sites in the Eola Amity Hills, winemaker Daniel Estrin learned how to make Chardonnay from Litorrai's Ted Lemon. Paul Gerrie makes up the bulk of this wine with Eileen and Louise. 100% barrel fermented Estrin uses a tactile approach to the lees inclusion in this wine. At the entry-level, this wine is still over-vintaged, which builds tension in the wine. Notes of tarragon and chipped flint frame the smoky grilled lemon aromatics. The 2022 Chardonnay Eola-Amity Hills is a total pleasure on the nose, wafting up with notions of sweet spice, chamomile and ginger-tinged yellow apples. Round and supple, this possesses a core of juicy acidity that enlivens it's tart orchard fruits as a salty sensation forms toward the close. FIVE STARS - François is fortunate enough to have 5.85 hectares of Puligny-Montrachet from six plots. He is planning some parcellaire cuvées in 2023. We are back to finesse with this wine. The 2022 Puligny is beautifully aromatic, with all the floral character one could hope for. This has a brilliantly light touch despite the energy and the intensity. OUTSTANDING - A more elegant, airier and more floral-suffused nose combines notes of spiced pear and enough Chablis elements to be more than just interesting. The refined, delicious and caressing, if not quite as concentrated, middle weight flavors possess very good punch on the firm, balanced, moderately dry bitter lemon-inflected finish. The 2022 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru has an attractive bouquet with touches of frangipane infusing the citrus fruit and hints of dried orange peel coming through with time. The palate is well-balanced with a waxy-textured opening. Good delineation, quite saline, with a twist of sour lemon dovetailing into a slight nutty/smoky note on the finish. Boris Champy Hautes Cotes de Beaune Blanc Montagne 382 2022From the Montagne de Cras, plot in Nantoux, the soils here is very varied, stony, but also full of clay. The 4-hectare plot is made up of 3 hectares of vines and 1 hectare of natural areas of great biodiversity: scree slopes, hedges, orchards, limestone grasslands with numerous orchids and even a few corm trees, which are extremely rare these days.
In the winery, the fruit is whole bunch pressed into part barrel (25% new) and part small stainless barrels and left to sit on lees for up to 12 months.
Rich and generous citrus fruits, honey and subtle floral notes, rounded out by a nice integration of oak and balanced acidity.

Eleni et Edouard Vocoret Chablis Le Bas de Chapelot 2022The 2022 Chablis Le Bas de Chapelot underwent partial tressage in the vineyard this year, so the Vocorets could compare. They found the fruit ripened earlier with more intense aromas. These will be bottled separately. It has a lovely peachy, nectarine-tinged bouquet that blossoms in the glass. The palate is well-balanced with touches of grapefruit and white peach. It is very elegant and pure, with a touch of spice towards the finish. Simply a mouthwatering prospect - difficult to believe this is not a Premier Cru. NEAL MARTIN
TOP VALUE - This also displays an ample amount of mineral reduction on the aromas of brine, algae and white orchard fruit. There is even better density to the sappy and palate soaking medium-bodied flavors that also flash focused power on the stony, moderately austere and beautifully persistent finale. William Fevre Chablis 2022FIVE STARS - To bottle in November. The average age is 40 year old vines, and 10% in wood. Excellent long finish. Sources are Chablis and Chichée for half and the rest in Viviers, 50 year old vines. Well drained steep slope which though south facing is at altitude and stays fresh. A fresh lemon yellow. The nose is a little more subdued than the Petit Chablis but more classical. This too has the attractive saline bitterness of extreme youth, but the fruit builds beautifully on the palate. TOP VALUE - There is slightly better Chablis typicity present on the aromas of mineral reduction, iodine and cool white fleshed fruit. There is also slightly better volume and richness to the delicious medium weight flavors that possess a lovely sense of underlying tension, all wrapped in a refreshing, clean, dry and sleek finale.
