Wonderfully mid weight, fragrant, perfumed, spiced, fruitful wine where the slightly gritty tannins tell a story that is both varietal and regional. As does the more savoury elements and those just slightly herbaceous notes that will make any Cab Franc fan smile and anyone who loves Crifra positively beam, that is the sales pitch here. This is a wine of pure pleasure, serious, yeah, but that isn't really important here. For me it is all about enjoyment with Crifra and if you love to eat and drink then this needs to be in your life. Drinking this with the right food will decrease your stress and stress is a killer, so, drinking Cifra will help you live longer. A veritable ambrosia. ROSCOE

Rocher des Violettes Cot Touraine 2020This comes from a wide ranging age of vines between 5 - 129 years old on silty clay over limestone from the sites; Bel-Air, La Rochère, Le Grand Poirier and Les Borderies.
Made from Cot, the local name for malbec there's an ebullient lift to the nose of maraschino cherries, violets and fragrant blackberries with hints of black pepper thanks to the inclusion of whole bunches. A framework of tannins envelopes the intense core of dark berries with an undertow of savoury minerality to support. This is handsomely structured and will repay cellar time, though it's appealing and delicious from the outset. GABRIELLE POY

Sauveroy 'Cuvée Ose Iris' Anjou Rouge 2020This family estate has been nestled in the heights of the Layon Valley in Saint-Lambert-du-Lattay in Anjou for three generations. The vineyard extends over a beautiful plot of 31 hectares of which 26 hectares are under vine and 5 hectares are in "wild" areas in anticipation of a future plantation or simply to preserve biodiversity. Quentin, Véronique and Pascal Cailleau, the last generations at the head of the domain, manage their vines according to the principles of organic farming, with rigor and precision.
We absolutely loved this at a recent tasting so just had to put it into this pack. Don't be surprised if you hear us talking about it some more because this is what cab franc should be. Soft and supple but countered with some fine powdery tanning and a whicked little crunch to the fruit. It explodes in the glass with raspberry, cherry, redcurrant and balckberry thast just swirls around and around. So vibrant with awesome balance. Amen Break Cabernet Franc 2021There's certainly a bustle in the hedgerow here, with blackberry, black raspberry, leaf, dried roses and pencils. Medium-bodied, cool acidity, a distinctly 'mineral' feel, intense small berried dark fruit, graphite tannin, a little sundried tomato and raspberry pip, and a spicy and gently bitter amaro/sappy finish of excellent length. Hailing from a small village in east of Australia called New Zealand the Clonal Brothers are Matt and Steve Harrop and together they are a lethal winemaking combination. One of the most sampled drum patterns music nerds will recognise this as a 6- to 7-second (4-bar) drum solo performed by Gregory Sylvester "G. C.". Coleman in the song "Amen, Brother" performed by the 1960s funk and soul outfit The Winstons.
