the dark ruby 2021 Pinot Noir Estate is ripe and sunny with aromas of blackberry, scorched earth, and violets. Full-bodied, with a silky texture, a stony mouthfeel, and notes of toasted cedar on the finish, it's supple and attractive now and will drink well over the next 3-5 years. JEB DUNNUCK

The 2021 Pinot Noir, made with about 15% whole clusters, has a medium ruby-purple color and pure scents of cranberries, baked rhubarb and allspice with wafts of forest floor, charcuterie and orange zest. A very Nuits like nose offers up notes of forest floor, the savage, purple fruit and an herbal tea top note. There is excellent intensity and precision to the solidly voluminous medium bodied flavors that conclude in a robust, rustic and powerful finish. This too could use more depth, but it has the stuffing to develop it. BURGHOUND

A fresh and airy nose is comprised by notes of red and dark berries along with plenty of newly turned earth character. The caressing, delicious and vibrant flavors possess very good volume before terminating in a mildly austere and sneaky long finish. This too possesses fine development potential and overall, it is a Volnay villages to consider.  BURGHOUND

Lovely aromas of raspberry and dark cherry fruit laid over a faintly stony backbeat and gorgeous blue florals of violets. The palate is medium to full with demure but insistent attack of sweet cherry and spice overtones. Love the delineated flavours as it slides across the palate. Intensity of flavour without heft. Aux Fourneaux is split between Premier Cru (top half) and Village status where the vines begin to level out. The Rapet's own vines in both sectors so this Villages has been bolstered by 1er fruit (but is declassified to a villages).

The name suggests it's from a warm site (fourneaux meaning ovens), but it's not. It's referring to the charcoal ovens which…. A mix of rosehip, spiced red cherries with accents of rosemary and cigar boxes lure you in.  The delineation of fruit and freshness on this Savigny les Beaune is a drawcard. A spine of raspy tannins ribs out around the nervy core of fruit.  It's charming and a more finessed SLB in the making. GABRIELLE POY

From 50+ year old vines in the climat Sur les Grèves, this is one of the top-tier vineyards of Beaune admired for its power, structure and age ability thanks to the steep slope and reddish soils infused with iron oxide.
A riper if less refined and airy nose speaks of red and dark currant aromas that are laced with newly turned earth, exotic tea and an interesting hint of orange peel. There is better volume to the medium-bodied flavors that display good power and mid-palate density before culminating in a youthfully austere, firm and nicely balanced finale. This is consistently one of the domaine's better wines and so it is again in 2021. OUTSTANDING, BURGHOUND

…. The nose is very pleasing, all in red fruit with a little white pepper, whereas the other cuvees have all been more floral. Very lively on the palate, with typical Grèves structural qualities and an abundance of fruit to return behind. JASPER MORRIS MW

This Bourgogne rouge comes from Gevrey Chambertin vineyards and hits above its level
The 2021 Bourgogne Les Pince Vin is lovely. Bright acids give this aromatic, soft Bourgogne terrific energy to complement its soft, open-knit personality. Bright, red-toned fruit, tobacco, cedar and crushed flowers all grace this nuanced, inviting 2021. All the elements are very nicely balanced. ANTONIO GALLONI

A very pretty, and very pinot, nose of mostly red berries and earth gives way to succulent, round and delicious flavors that possess a seductive mid-palate texture while offering good depth and persistence in the context of what is typical for the genre. From a blend of excellent sites across Gevrey with lower vine age – this notably shows vivacity and seductiveness
The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Symphonie possesses lovely inner sweetness and depth to match its understated personality. Dark cherry, plum, spice and leather build nicely, propelled by bright acids and notable aromatic intensity. This is showing quite well today. ANTONIO GALLONI

A notably more deeply pitched nose features notes of plum, wild dark currant and more prominent earth nuances. There is better volume to the delicious, round and equally seductively textured flavors that pack very good punch on the focused and balanced finale. This should also drink well relatively early on. A strong effort in a challenging year, the 2021 Bourgogne Pinot Noir delivers aromas of sweet berries, plums and spices, followed by a light to medium-bodied, tangy and supple palate that will make for thirst-quenching drinking on release. WILLIAM KELLEY, Wine Advocate

The 2021 Pinot Noir is svelte and balanced; it's really settled into itself now at two years post-harvest. There's a nice, fleshy green parsley note on the nose. The fruit tastes ripe and fleshy and feels it in the mouth too. Nice mineral acidity shapes the wine and keeps it alive in the mouth. This is super pleasurable drinking here. There are pomegranate pearls and pink peppercorns. There is energy here. 13% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

This is composed of 61.5% Te Muna Road Vineyard, with the balance from in town. It was plunged once daily and spent 20 days on the skins. Aging was in 22% new oak for 11 months, with a further nine months in tank. Bottled unfined and unfiltered. ERIN LARKIN, The Wine Advocate

This was the legacy that Larry Mackenna and his team set, today’s team led by Tim Bourne is continuing this legacy easily showcased in this wine. The 2021 Pahi Pinot Noir has a gorgeous nose that's totally expressive and pure in its outlay of aroma, with Pink Lady apples, pomegranate pearls, layers of red cherry, white strawberry, star anise, a hint of arnica/mint and a ripple of sumac and blood orange/ginger spice through the finish. Superb, gorgeous with lovely energy. The nose is laced with freshly turned red earth, which is crazy because there is no "freshly turned red earth" in the vineyard, yet it is ferruginous, iodine-y, etc., which carries through all the 2021 single-vineyard Pinots. Tannins are silky. With 58% whole bunch, there's "big bunch energy," joked winemaker Tim Bourne. I agree.13.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

Pahi tends to have a lifted perfume—"'Te Muna Road perfume' we call that," says Tim. Grapes were picked on April 3 and spent 25 days on skins. Clone 5 and Abel were used. Aging was in 25% new oak for 20 months, racked once, then bottled unfined and unfiltered. (95) ERIN LARKIN,. The Wine Advocate

An enticing fragrance of fresh dark cherries and dried herbs, plum and sweet wood with a light smoke touch. There’s a gentle perfume and floral frame. On the palate firm touch with a core of ripe dark berried fruits for contrast. There’s some subtle power with tannins and acidity framing the wine nicely and a core of fruit flavours that reflect the bouquet. Firm and dry, lengthy and well made, I feel this wine needs some cellar time to complete its harmony. Best drinking from 2025 through 2032+. CAM DOUGLAS MW

The 2021 Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills has a medium ruby color and pretty scents of cinnamon stick, aniseed, iron, underbrush and charcuterie with a core of red cherries and cranberries. Medium-bodied yet very concentrated, it has a powdery frame, sparks of refreshing acidity and a very long, graphite-driven finish. Precise and detailed, it deserves to spend another 2-3 years in bottle. (96) ERIN BROOKS, Wine Advocate

The wild mint leaps from the glass at the outset, the Marjorie site was planted in 1982, on its own roots, replanted vine by vine starting in 2000. Aromatics of fresh spearmint, red bramble fruits and a tart spritz of blood orange complete the aromatic appeal. The tannins are substantial here and frame the wine's elegance with a structure that will enable some great ageing. It's a tough site to farm because of the spacing and the low pH. Tart red berries and a melange of dried scrub flavours meld into notes of blackberry and mint and a touch of white pepper to finish. (96) CLIVE PURSEHOUSE, Decanter

The 2022 Pinot Noir Marjorie Vineyard comes from the only pre-existing vines the family acquired when they purchased the winery in 1992. A deeper magenta color, it's perfumed with seductive notes of violets, black raspberries, sweet herbs, and forest earth. The palate offers plenty of purity, and it has a fantastic, savory finish, with ripe tannins and even acidity. It's drinking well now, with a wide window for enjoying over the coming 15 or so years. Most diverse soils on the property the Louise is the only site without 100% volcanic soils. The warmest site on the property, protected from the Van Duzer winds from a horseshoe of forest is about radiance of warmth for winemaker Estrin. This site can get big fast, so he picks them a bit earlier than the others and has to pay attention to the extraction, exotic spice aromatics, Chinese five spice and Oolong tea. This is a bit more broad-shouldered and the tannins intimate that this will go the distance. The palate leans into savoury spice, with black tea, wild anise blackberries and mint. From a vineyard the Gerrie family planted in 1993 that sits around the winery, the 2022 Pinot Noir Louise Vineyard reveals a beautiful woodsy profile, with notes of mossy earth and higher-toned red fruit shining through, with cranberries, darker red fruits, and Asian spices. It has a chiseled structure, with fine compact tannins, a refreshing lift, and notes of tea leaf on its long finish. It's going to age with grace over the coming 20 years. (96) JEB DUNNUCK

The palate is a marriage of ripeness with the savoury character and superb tannins that the vintage has given winemaker Daniel Estrin to work with. A ripe ruby red color, the 2022 Pinot Noir Jessie Vineyard displays a more savory profile. Coming from the winery's steepest vineyard site with a 33% grade, it has an elegant floral perfume of ripe berries, and the texture is supple, with ripe tannins and an approachable feel. It's well-detailed, with a cushion of approachability, but it's fully dry and has a savory undertone. Drink 2025-2040. (96) JEB DUNNUCK

Eileen is at the top of the hill, staring out towards the Coast Range. This wine is a picture of elegance, and the turbulence from the Van Duzer Corridor moves through the clusters and vines. It's satiny, with spiced aromatics, wild herbs and bright tart cranberries. The site's higher acids lift the silky mouthfeel, it comes together beautifully. Blue fruits, wild spearmint and Chinese five spice frame an elegance of red berries and pine bough freshness. The finish shows a sweetness of berries and a note of green peppercorn. A deeper and layered profile emerges in the 2022 Pinot Noir Eileen Vineyard, which comes from windswept site where the grapes get thick skins from the wind. It has a more woodsy profile, with savory saline, brothy feel, tea leaf, toasted spice, and black cherries. Drink it over the coming 15-20 years. (97) JEB DUNNUCK

In the windy part of the Eola-Amity Hills, this vineyard sits between 200-275m and is made with about 50% whole cluster, a favourite technique of winemaker Daniel Estrin. Dusty aromatics open the wine with gravelly minerality, wild red bramble fruits and a note of salty sea air. On the palate, that mineral tone continues. Red and black berry fruits compete with a distinct tone of salted blood orange pulp. Wild anise and dill bring a savoury finish to this elegant showing. (96) CLIVE PURSEHOUSE, Decanter

The 2022 Pinot Noir Paul Gerrie Vineyard offers more lifted, savory, and deep aromatics, with an almost Nebbiolo-like structure, with an angular feel to its notes of black raspberries, wild earth, and alpine forest herbs. It has angular bright acidity, as well as lots of tension and linear drive, a stony, salty, mouthwatering feel, coiled tannins, and a clean, savory finish. It needs time to unwind. Drink 2026-2046. This is impeccably composed and seductively expressed, showing dark cherry, clove, thyme and cedar characters on the nose with a gorgeous floral overtone. The concentrated palate is plush yet poised and refined with fleshy texture and perfectly pitched tannins. The 2021 Pinot Noir definitely reflects vintage. Its good colour and abundance of gravelly tannins display the smaller berried, smaller vintage. Its bright fruit, intense concentration and plentiful acidity accompany primary red fruit flavour, with an impressive show of ample black tea leaf-like tannins. Lively and vibrant red fruits of wild strawberries and red cherries followed by rose hips, ground spices and a touch of citrus zest. Medium-bodied, finely grained velvety tannins with a delightful acid backbone. Zesty and layered wine with beautiful balance and complexity. It's already enjoyable but will age gracefully. The 2021 Pinot Noir is vibrant on the nose and totally precise and focused. The acid spools right from the front of the palate and has a mobile, agile way about it. The season may have had it's challenges, but the wine is effortless, natural and shapely. It's great. The 40% whole bunch here sits well within the red fruit and creates a capacious mid-palate without an impact of stalky flavour. Superb. A real pleasure to drink. ERIN LARKIN, Wine Advocate

Very good colour, quite deep and retains a good tint of purple in the rim. Wood-spice and a hint of Campari to sniff; the palate full and intense, loaded with tannins which add grip and persistence. Long, long carry. A rich, powerful, decadent pinot which is offering much right now but also promises a bright future. This wine punches above its weight  (96) HUON HOOKE

Lower Derwent sourced fruit, essentially from the outer suburbs of Hobart, planted nigh on 40 years ago. Dense plantings. Lots of layers here. Bracken, shiitake dashi, darker cherry and freshly grown moss, spruce and other forestry allusions. Dense, pliant and convincing, this is excellent mid-weighted Tassie pinot. (95) JAMES SUCKLING

A bright, complex pinot noir... Pure red and dark cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry fruits with hints of Chinese barbecue shop, five-spice, teacake, mushroom, purple floral and subtle leaf litter tones.
