Massolino Barbaresco Albesani 2020 1500mlThe 2020 Barbaresco Albesani has more substance and depth than the straight Barbaresco. The differences between the two wines today aren't that marked at the outset, but that comes with aeration. Macerated cherry, plum, spice, lavender, rose petal and sage develop with time in the glass. All of the richness and power of Albesani comes through. For readers who want to understand what Albesani is all about, this is it! ANTONIO GALLONI, Vinous
From the village of Neive, the Massolino 2020 Barbaresco Albesani shows more balance at this young age next to the estate's classic Barbaresco. This single-vineyard expression also has more depth with dark berry nuances, cassis, blue flower and crushed limestone. Those floral aromas emerge with pretty intensity. The wine's tannins are very fine and silky. Some 4,000 bottles were made. (94) MONICA LARNER, The Wine Advocate

Lalu Langhe Nebbiolo 2021
Organic. This vibrant, perfumed Nebbiolo equally blends two sites that were both planted by Lalù. The first site, Roncaglie in La Morra, is a plot of land that Lara Rocchetti and Luisa Sala bought in 2015 and planted in 2017. Looking towards Verduno, this parcel faces east at an altitude of 400 metres. It’s a cool, windy, slow-ripening site. The second source is Bussia Bovi, a sub-Cru within Monforte’s superstar Bussia MGA. Lalù’s parcel is located at 320 metres above sea level, in the south of Bussia, between Bricco San Pietro and the area historically known as Bussia Arnulfo. The soils here are rich in sand, gifting a perfumed wine with supple fruit and great delicacy—the yin to Roncaglie’s yang. The fruit from here fermented as whole bunches and was raised in concrete to retain as much fragrance as possible. Both vineyards could be classified as Barolo (when the vines are of age), which says a great deal about the quality on offer here.
This Langhe Nebbiolo delivers more than most. The 2021 is a juicy, pretty Nebbiolo brimming with vibrant red and dark cherry fruit, anise, florals and some wood spice. In the mouth, the typical austerity of young Langhe is traded for svelte, integrated tannins and supple texture, all supported by mouth-watering energy.

Seghesio Barolo Castelletto La Villa 2019The 2019 Barolo Castelletto is laced with rose petal, cinnamon, white pepper, mint, cedar and sweet pipe tobacco. Medium in body, with lovely persistence, the 2020 captures all the character of this Monforte site. The aromatics are especially nuanced in 2019. Brisk acids and vibrant tannins pull it all together on the finish. ANTONINO GALLONI, Vinous
Aromas of red plums and cherries with hints of cocoa, nut shell and dried hibiscus flower. Some citrus peel, too. Medium- to full-bodied, firm and slightly chewy with a subtle red fruit character and hints of dried herbs and walnuts to close. Flavorful. A little austere at the end. Try after 2025. Tiziano Grasso Barolo La Briccolina 2019The 2019 Barolo Briccolina is a classy, powerful wine. A blast of dark cherry, plum, gravel, spice, incense and lavender makes a fine first impression, before big Serralunga tannins make themselves felt. This imposing Barolo will benefit from a few years in bottle. It is a fine effort from the Grasso family. ANTONIO GALLONI
The Grasso family have owned Briccolina since 1923 and for many years sold their fruit to neighbouring wineries. In 2012, Daniele convinced his father Tiziano to bottle a little Barolo under their own name. Sadly, Tiziano passed away in 2017 and it’s been left to Daniele and Tiziano’s wife Simona to continue the dream. Their six hectares is the largest single holding of Briccolina and occupies the best part of the MGA, which neighbours Ornato and Falletto in the southern part of Serralunga D’Alba. We were thoroughly impressed with our cask tastings of 2019-2022 and the new cantina will be ready for vintage 2023. Tiziano would be proud. Elvio Cogno Nebbiolo Langhe Montegrilli 2022The 2021 Langhe Nebbiolo Montegrilli is a powerful, intense wine for the dinner table. Crushed red berry fruit, spice, dried flowers and a touch of whole cluster savoriness lend complexity, with firm tannins that give the wine its serious structure. ANTONIO GALLONI, Vinous

Brokenwood Indigo Vineyard Chardonnay 2022
Marvellous chardonnay. Flavoursome, flinty, fleshy and complete. Stonefruits and white flowers, cedarwood and meal, a quartz-like aspect and plenty of struck match. But harmonious at every single turn. And then there's the finish, which is seriously well sustained. One sip and I was convinced. The score could well be stingy. (95+) CAMPBELL MATTINSON, winefront.com
The sort of wine that unravels with air, from a torque of initial restraint, to a more open weave. Fine contemporary chardonnay, delivered with a cooler climatic edge and Australia's typical clarity of fruit and suffusion of tension. Granitic. Sub-alpine. A meld that delivers gentle stone fruit allusions, kumquat and a seam of oak, impeccably integrated… NED GOODWIN MW, jamessuckling.comAussie winelovers need little prompting when it comes to elite Chardonnay from the Beechworth region which is home to some of our very best. This wine, mostly from the Mendoza clone, sees whole bunch pressing and a wild yeast ferment in new French oak, which is mostly 500-litre puncheons. A lean, pale yellow hue, this is obviously still very young, indeed almost raw, but it is certainly coming together. We have notes of citrus and cashews, with melon and peach. A minerally backing, juicy acidity and impressive length. This will be better in 12 months and should drink beautifully for the following five to six years, possibly considerably more. Vietti Barolo Monvigliero 2019 1500ml
2 BOTTLES AVAILABLE
The 2019 Barolo Monvigliero is stunning. What a wine. Rich, heady and explosive, the 2019 is a gorgeous, spherical Barolo that dazzles right out of the gate. Aromatically broad and expansive, the 2019 fleshes out beautifully in the glass. Bright red-toned fruit, orange zest, mint, spice and bright saline notes saturate the palate on the back end. The 2019 is a total stunner, even in this stage of youthful austerity. It comes across as a bit rustic compared to the 2018, but the final verdict on that won't be evident for at least a number of years. This is the first vintage that includes a second parcel in Monvigliero. In the cellar, one lot saw submerged cap maceration, the other did not. William Fevre Chablis Montee de Tonnerre 2021 1er
SWEET SPOT, OUTSTANDING - A discreet dollop of wood sets off the equally cool and perhaps even slightly more elegant aromas of acacia, citrus, seashore and oyster shell. The sleek and highly sophisticated medium-bodied flavors possess a really lovely texture while delivering superb length on the bitter lemon and mineral-suffused finish. This beautifully balanced effort is crystalline in its purity and a wine that should repay a decade plus of keeping. BURGHOUND
WORTH A SPECIAL SEARCH - A little more direct, a lot more airy. More citrus bitters again – lovely purity and minerality – beautiful intensity but without pain. A mm of cushion to this fine texture too. So perfectly packaged – This bottle could be drunk today – if it was bottled! Bravo and so sneakily long too! BILL NANSON, The Burgundy Report

William Fevre Chablis Grand Cru Bougros 2021Some width of white flower perfume. Gas that’s adding energy. William Fevre Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos 2021 MAGNUM
DON'T MISS! - This too could be from nowhere else other than Chablis with its combination of strong mineral reduction, cool citrus, shellfish and iodine. The dense, opulent and powerful large-bodied flavors brim with dry extract that imparts a sappy texture to the lemony and massively long finish. Not surprisingly for a classic Les Clos, this super effort is very much built-to-age and a wine that I would advise not touching for at least 6 to 8 years first. BURGHOUND
WORTH A SPECIAL SEARCH - 4.10 ha, principally the higher section but some lower towards Grenouilles - mainly planted before 1950 by that father of Willaim Fevre. Always the only wine in this - or pretty much any line-up of great Chablis that makes me think - Chevalier-Montrachet - but this year I see Chablis! Extra breadth to this aroma - almost a hybrid of the previous two wines - but then it changes gear, floral and mega-impressive - wow - I almost don't need to drink it! Okay, for science ?? : This is not the most forceful or incisive but it has a mouth-filling fluidity that infuses the senses. (Almost) always a wine apart and it is certainly that in 2021 - undisputedly great - bravo! BILL NANSON, The Burgundy Report

Domaine Naturaliste Artus Chardonnay 2022
A touch of funk here, some smoky sulfides and toasty barrel derived character allied with nougat honey and toasted nuts. A wine of refinement and restraint as well as good depth of flavour, the refreshing acidity towing the flavour long through an extended finish. (Karridale fruit, Gingin clone; underwent malolactic). (95) HUON HOOKE, Real Review
Well this is the Gin Gin clone from Karridale, gets the whole malo thing, and 40% new oak. Heavy bottles still, unlike Leeuwin and Cullen, who are leading the way in this respect.Powerful wine, and glossy, and buttery, cashew nut richness, toast. ginger and clove, with some struck match, pear and grapefruit. It’s a slippery viscous and powerful affair, toffee and grapefruit, mango richness, maybe a little bit brassy and bold, but saline and savoury to close, with a finish of fine length and chalky texture. Francois Carillon Cap Au Sud Chardonnay 2021Plenty of weight here which comes as a lovely surprise the first time you take a look at it. Hits the ripe stone fruit and slightly exotic register but with air it tightens up significantly and turns on the southern charm. Fleshy, nice volume and intensity, no lack of freshness but this nails the succulent and juicy mark, offering up all the bits you want from a great Chard that drinks like it was made for the table. Upfront and loaded up with pleasure on all fronts. Southern Chard made by a master from Burg and it shows. Well played. This is should be on your highlight reel for summer. I particularly like flesh and richness here, it straddles the line between buxom and zippy, so much fun in the tank. Just a dead set lovely wine that is ready and raring to go. Dirupi Valtellina Superiore 2019The Dirupi 2019 Valtellina Superiore is generous and balanced, with a 360-degree approach to the palate underlined by dark fruit, plum jam, bluebells and other mountain wildflowers. You smell alpine slopes, cool weather and glacier-like aromas. The palate shows some dried herb and lightly powdery tannins. Fruit comes from a two-hectare site that is divided into nine parcels with mostly sandy soils. Production is 9,915 bottles. MONICA LARNER, The Wine Advocate
The 2019 Valtellina Superiore is super-expressive right out of the gate. Spice, cedar, leather and tobacco meld into a core of bright red Nebbiolo fruit, with dusty tannins that wrap it all together. I suppose there could be a bit more finesse here (especially in the tannins) but all things considered, this is nicely done. ANTONIO GALLONI2019NebbioloItaly498$85.00 As low as $76.50 -

Arpepe Grumello Rocca di Piro Valtellina Superiore 2019
Sth Facing, 350-500m altitude, slate and limestone soils
Grumello is always called 'the precocious one.' A mix of limestone and clay soils, it offers depth coupled with nervosity. Packed with blueberries, violets and white button mushrooms around a core of pitch-perfect red cherries. Subtle notes of licorice and spice waft in and out. The tannins are fine yet firm leaving a powdery trail on the palate. Pure, precise and precocious. GABRIELLE POYSage, bay leaf, cherry, smoky mineral and steely, paprika, a warm and cool ride here, and tannic too, pleasingly so, with orange peel, grainy dry tannin and a peppery and herbal finish of good length. Such character. Cherry richness. So good. GARY WALSH

Boris Champy Hautes Cotes de Beaune Blanc 2021This has a wonderful bouquet with orange pith, citrus lemon and fine mineralité and tension. The palate has a sharp citric entry and is full of tension from start to finish. Veins of grapefruit, lychee and apricot appear towards the finish. Wonderful. NEAL MARTIN
A remarkable wine for this humble appellation, this is simultaneously cool and crisp, yet also texturally complex and elegant on the medium-bodied palate. Every facet of lemon aromas you can imagine, from fresh Amalfi fruit to candied lemon. So much youthful energy at the long, wet stone finish. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Drinkable now, but best from 2025. STUART PIGGOT

Overall, there is a lot to like here… they were consistently well-crafted and clearly terroir-driven. NEAL MARTIN, vinous
Good aromatic width, containing a hint of green citrus. Fresh, broad and attractive in the mouth - that's a lovely village wine. BILL NANSON
From two leui dits - Les Clous Perrons, les Magnys - in Meursault with time on lees in barrel to bring weight and texture with 12 months and 10% new oak. From vines 50+ and 25+ years old. Again those beautifully handled lees add something to both the feel of the wine and its aromatic profile. That is one of the hallmarks of these wines and its great to see at this level. Ample roundness and generosity, but there is zip and pep too. Salty minerality here! Very good Bourgogne. Better than its classification.

Cavallotto Barolo Bricco Boschis 2019
Rose, violet, new leather and forest floor are just some of the aromas you’ll find on Cavallotto’s excellent 2019 Bricco Boschis. Full-bodied and still youthfully austere, it shows great aging potential, delivering juicy red cherry, wild raspberry, star anise and tangy mineral notes suggesting rusty iron, all set against a backbone of tightly knit, fine-grained tannins. Bright acidity lends balance and great energy. (97) KERIN OKEEFE
The 2019 Barolo Bricco Boschis is an absolutely gorgeous wine that needs plenty of air to open. Grown on deep alluvial river sands and stone left behind by the Esk River, vines experience a maritime influence where warm, dry days are followed by a cool sea breeze.
Handpicked fruit was wholebunch pressed direct to 500L puncheons with full solids. 10% of which was new French oak. After a few days, wild fermentation spontaneously started and progressed for 20 days with a maximum temperature of 24 deg C.
Post fermentation the wine was stirred a few times and left to mature at cool and allowed to go through full Malolactic Fermentation. Stirring every 3- 4 weeks. Minimal sulphur was added after 5 months. After a total of 9 months of barrel maturation the wine was racked to tank for bottling. No fining or filtration.

Leeuwin Art Series Chardonnay 2021
Light straw colour with a reserved lemon/grapefruit aroma, fresh and penetrating, the palate brisk and bright with vibrant acidity and intense grapefruit/lemon flavours that persist the full length of the very long palate. Superb vitality and balance. It promises to reward cellaring too. Tremendously concentrated and compact, with extreme drive and massive persistence, it positively vibrates with energy. Very cellarworthy, too. (98) HUON HOOKE, therealreview.com
Remarkably complex aromas of dominant stone fruit like nectarine with less of the pear and cut lime character you expect. An intense and powerful wine with a distinctive chalky limestone influence on the palate… Continues the subtle move to Burgundian styles. This is one of the most delicate of Art Series chardies. Elements of the 2017 yet there is more power and intensity within its tight frame. Has slightly more phenolic character. The minerally cracked seashell character is clearly evident here. It is pure with an almost shimmering acidity and precision through to the long finish. One of the more individual of the Leeuwin chardonnays to date. (98) RAY JORDAN, rayjordan.comThe 2021 Art Series Chardonnay leads with a distinctly floral nose: jasmine and white garden rose, wisteria and lemon blossom… On the palate, the wine is powerful and savory-it leans heavily on exotic dry spice and cracked honeycomb, with hints of salted butter on fresh white bread, beeswax and salted pink grapefruit. Stylistically, it is not dissimilar to the 2017; however, the dovetailing of acid and fruit feels seamless and well matched here. The wine is piercing and structural, tightly coiled and almost rigid, in the best of ways. It's an impressive wine, one that, at this stage of its life, is defined by its penetrating acid line. Sealed under screw cap. (97+) ERIN LARKIN, robertparker.com

Pierre Peters L'Esprit Millesime 2019The L'Esprit de 2019 is one of the best versions of this wine I can remember tasting. Exuberant and racy, with tons of energy, the 2019 reflects the natural intensity of this great vintage while retaining the super-classic signatures of the Côtes des Blancs. This cuvée is a blend of fruit sourced from Grand Cru sites in Le Mesnil, Avize, Cramant and Oger. Readers who want to enjoy a top-flight Champagne without splurging will find so much to like here. Hints of tangerine peel, marzipan and dried flowers linger on the intensely saline finish. Dosage is 4 grams per liter. Disgorged: December 19, 2023. (95) ANTONIO GALLONI, Vinous
The year’s heat has yielded concentration and fragrance rather than weight, with lemon oil and Mirabelle plum framed in a compact, driven, yet polished palate whose firm core of acid will unwind beautifully over the coming decade as the aromatics develop further. Between the excellence of Pierre Péters non-vintage and the renown of its top offerings, the vintage-level cuvée can sometimes be overlooked, but in 2019 – one of winemaker Rodolphe Péters’ favourite years – it’s an absolute star.
