Domaine de Bellene Vosne Romanee Les Suchots 1er 2022
From vines planted in 1937. Cask sample.
Cask sample. Intense, concentrated, so youthful but has so much future ahead. An impressive Vosne premier cru. Masses of extract, concentration, fine wood, bright acidity and purity on the finish. Leafy, dark-berry notes. A joyous example which will age for many decades. www.jancisrobinson.comHere the nose is clean and bright with its ripe and lightly mentholated aromas of black cherry liqueur, spice and floral scents. The rich, suave and seductively textured flavors coat the palate with sappy dry extract while delivering solid length on the powerful, dusty and firm finale. This is not a Suchots of finesse but it doesn't lack for character. BURGHOUND - = OUTSTANDING

Faiveley Gevrey Lavaux St Jacques 2021 1erThe 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux Saint-Jacques 1er Cru offers one of my favourite bouquets from Faiveley in this vintage: open redcurrant and wild strawberry scents, touches of sous-bois and truffle, very expressive and charming. The palate is well balanced with finely-chiselled tannins, quite energetic, perhaps because compared to their Les Cazetiers, this was barely touched by the frost. Almost confit-like on the finish. Excellent. NEIL MARTIN, Vinous.com2021Pinot noirFrance358$425.00 As low as $382.50

Vilmart Coeur de Cuvee 2016The 2016 Brut Coeur de Cuvée is an elegant, sensual Champagne. In other words, classic Vilmart. Crushed flowers, mint, chalk, slate, dried herbs and citrus peel are all beautifully delineated. Brisk acids wrap it all together in style. The 2016 needs a few years to be at its most expressive, as it is pretty reserved today. Even so, all the elements are impeccably put together. The barrels used here are one to three years old. Dosage is 7 grams per liter. Disgorged: September, 2022. (94+) ANTONIO GALLONI, Vinous
Notes of honeysuckle and lime blossoms, blood orange peel, anise and cardamom are a fragrant overtone heralding this fresh Champagne, which shows good tension and drive. The refined, chalky mousse is lacy in texture, buoying finely meshed flavors of ripe apricot and quince paste, raw almond, vanilla wafer and candied ginger. Ends with a long, mouthwatering finish. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Disgorged September 2022. Drink now through 2036. (95) WINE SPECTATOR2016chardonnay, Pinot noirFrance376$340.00 As low as $306.00 -
Hospices de Beaune Beaune Nicolas Rolin 2021 1erLike previous vintages this is on the darker side of the spectrum but the fruit remains upbeat and sappy in the mouth. Considerable tannins provide the framework while notes of spice, turned earth and a dusting of pepper waft from the glass. It is a little reserved at the moment, that’s to be expected, but the sumptuousness and creaminess of the very old vine fruit, the line of acidity that adds the fresh, sappy elements, those solid but beautifully formed tannins and bead of minerality that bursts through the palate, they all tell a story of a beautifully composed wine, raised by a master of his craft, that should develop wonderfully for at least a decade or so, probably much more. The final flush of florality and mineral laced fruit is enough to excite anyone who loves Burgundy.
If anyone asks why we persist with the Hospice wines, then they need to try this. Excellent stuff from Mr Leroux, again. ROSCOE2022Pinot noirFrance358$550.00 As low as $495.00 -

Littorai Haven Vineyard Pinot Noir 2021 1500mL2 BOTTLES AVAILABLE
The 2021 Pinot Noir The Haven Vineyard has closed a touch since I tasted it in early 2023, but it's still impressive and perfumed. From vines planted in 2001, it's expressive and detailed, unfurling scents of raspberry, blackberry, conifer forest, resinous herbs and licorice. The medium-bodied palate is effortlessly balanced, its concentrated flavors framed by silky tannins and bright acidity, and it has a very long, layered and spicy finish. 300 cases were made. (97) ERIN BROOKS, The Wine Advocate
Medium in body, the 2021 Pinot Noir The Haven Vineyard Estate opens with attractive savory and earthy overtones. It is one of the most delicate and open-knit of the 2021s at Littorai. Time in the glass brings out its ethereal qualities. (94) ANTONIO GALLONI, vinous

Littorai Savoy Vineyard Pinot Noir 2021 1500mL3 BOTTLES AVAIALABLE
The 2021 Pinot Noir Savoy Vineyard has tightened in bottle since I first tasted it in early 2023. From vines planted in 1991 and 1994, it opens with struck flint and takes plenty of time to unwind its pomegranate, rhubarb, licorice and bergamot aromas. The light-bodied palate reveals complex flavors, but it's youthfully coiled at this stage. It has a chiseled frame of chalky tannins and firm acidity and a long, citrus and tea leaf finish. It becomes more expressive as it opens in the glass and will reveal its full potential after several more years in bottle. 345 cases were made. (94+) ERIN BROOKS
The 2021 Pinot Noir Savoy Vineyard is a potent, brooding wine. Black cherry, licorice, spice and dried herbs are all dialed up. This is an especially dark, somber style of Savoy—the result of heat stress and low yields that concentrated fruit as well as tannin. Evesham Wood Le Puits Sec Pinot Noir 2021What a beauty! The 2021 Pinot Noir Le Puits Sec blossoms in the glass with a gorgeous mix of dusty violets and roses complemented by autumnal spice, giving way to citrus-tinged wild berries. This sweeps across the palate with finesse, lifted and ethereal, with shades of blue and purple inner florals accentuating dark red fruits. It finishes long and hauntingly floral with a tactile mineral crunch and coating of gently grippy tannins. For lovers of old-school Oregon Pinot, the 2021 is dreamy. ERCI GUIDO, Vinous Media
OUTSTANDING - An enticing nose offers up an array of floral nuances, red currant, green tea and a whiff of crushed mint. The delicious, energetic and well detailed, even silky, middle weight flavors terminate in a persistent, focused and balanced finale where a touch of dusty youthful austerity slowly emerges. This is not a seductive wine but its subtle and balanced and invites you back for sip after sip. BURGHOUND

Ornellaia 2021
The 2021 Ornellaia captures all the magic of this sensational vintage on the Tuscan Coast. Rich, ample and expansive, with tremendous polish, the 2021 is pure class. Dark-toned fruit, mocha, espresso, licorice, plum and dried herbs abound. The tannins are present but also beautifully integrated, as is the French oak. There was a time not too long ago when young wines here needed years in bottle to drink well. That's not at all the case with the 2021. The blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 7% Petit Verdot works so well (99) ANTONIO GALLONI
Aromas of blackcurrants, iodine, crushed stone, hints of mint and sage. Blue fruits. Full-bodied with chewy tannins that open with air. It’s racy and very long. Very tannin driven and energetic with power and focus. Muscular and very toned. This is the best Ornellaia for the cellar in years. (99) JAMES SUCKLING

A mix of vineyards and clones from the Lusatia Park vineyard in Woori Yallock. Bright cherry red. An immediately appealing wine with its dark cherry fruit, lavender and incense. Yarra Yering Agincourt 2018Could this be any more aromatic, with its perfect mix of florals, fruit and spice? Lovely aromatics of ripe black fruits edged with violet flowers and smoked cedar. Gabin et Felix Richoux Irancy Veaupessiot 2018Thierry embraces each vintage for its uniqueness, which makes for a lot of diversity between years. Veaupessiot, like the other Irancy wines in the range, when first opened can hold its cards close to the chest—2010, 2013 and 2015 vintages are exceptions. Like a great Nebbiolo wine, the initial resistance begins to soften with time open and all its noble qualities begin to unfold from the glass. They are a rustic, clean style of wine that with patience shows an array of specific noble complexities unique to this place. Veaupessiot is the most elegant and brightly aromatic than the other lieux-dits bottlings, Les Cailles and La Palotte. Les Cailles is the more stern and stony with equal polish and La Palotte the more rustic and earthy ode to the past glories of Irancy. THE SOURCE

Anne & Sebastian Bidault Bourgogne Rouge 2022Fruit for this Bourgogne comes from across the communes in which the family operate. Mostly old-vine plantings and more from clay soils than limestone. Spot on aromatics of cherry inlaid with a hint of Asian spice and blue flowers. The palate gives an immediate sweet fruit attack and quickly settles into a medium-bodied frame. Gentle and flowing rather than a wall of flavour and extract, this Bourgogne shows real earthen terroir characters backed by lovely purity of fruit. Much better than the station typically delivers and at the price it's perfect mid-week Burgundy...don;t get to write that very often. MICHAEL MCNAMARA2022Pinot noirFrance358$68.00 As low as $61.20

Domaine Rapet Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Ile des Vergelesses 2022
The insider's choice among Rapet's reds is the 2022 Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Ile de Vergelesses, a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and seamless wine that's layered and velvety, evocative of sweet red berries, baking spices, rose petals and orange zest. WILLIAM KELLEY
Extra layers of ripe dark-cherry fruit compared with the elegant Bourgogne Rouge. Good density here with crispness allied with a purity of black fruit. Soft and enveloping light oak provides extra support. Really very fine and punches above its weight. ANDY HOWARD MW, jancisrobinson.com
An overtly floral, airy and cool nose offers up a variety of dark berries, herbal tea, earth and a hint of kirsch, all of which is trimmed in just enough wood to notice. The delicious tension-filled and beautifully textured flavors exude more evident minerality on the sappy, youthfully austere and equally serious finale. This also needs to develop better depth but the Rapet Ile virtually always ages well. OUTSTANDING, BURGHOUND

Beyond the hill of Corton – almost Hautes Côtes.
Great example of Bourgogne from this Pernand domaine. Lovely crisp, bright, crunchy fruit. Great purity but there is also a freshness and acidity which makes you want to drink more. Not at all hefty but lifted, delicate and showing so much finesse. Well worth considering this for your ‘drinking’ Pinot. GREAT VALUE, ANDY HOWARD MW, jancisrobinson.comUltra-fresh aromas of red pinot fruit, spice and more discreet earth nuances lead to equally delicious and more finely textured middleweight flavors that possess notably better volume on the better balanced and sneaky long finish. This is quite good for what it is and worth checking out. BURGHOUND

Onannon Main Ridge Tudibaring Pinot Noir 2022
So pretty and appealing thanks to its up-front red cherries and spice flavours. At first quite fruit-sweet, then other elements come into play: tangy, tart, pomegranate-like acidity, a touch of menthol. The oak is oh-so-subtle, adding some background nuances to the lighter-framed palate with lacy tannins. This is lovely. All fruit is destemmed, cold soaked for seven days in a carbonic environment and spends six weeks on skins, then pressed straight to oak, 15% new. (95) JANE FAULKNER Wine Companion
Red fruit, pimento, cinnamon and spice, poached strawberry and rhubarb, a little cedar oak. It’s all red fruit, some pomegranate and tamarind tang, light dusty and peppery tannin, a quiet sappy succulence, with a bright and zesty finish of excellent length. Very good. Hurley Hommage Pinot Noir 2022
Homage faces north-east, is the smallest of the vineyards, was planted from cuttings taken from Main Ridge Estate, and – important on the Peninsula – is the most sheltered of the vineyards.
This release is better than excellent. It’s elegant and fine-boned but it has genuine power, most of the latter formed, assembled and employed through the back half of the palate and out through the finish. It’s a Pinot Noir for lovers of Pinot Noir. It’s modestly sweet-sour but it’s silken and cohesive, its black cherry, meat, toast and floral elements singing as one. This is my favourite of the 2022 Hurley Vineyards pinots; they’re all good, but this for me is the most complete. CAMPBELL MATTINSON, The Wine Front

Hurley Lodestone Pinot Noir 2022
Lodestone is north-facing and the warmest of the three sites. But it’s planted to the Burgundian clones 114, 115 and 777 (along with some MV6), and the soils the vines are planted in are rockier. (The Hurley Vineyard is currently for sale, if anyone is interested.)
This is an excellent release. Taut, perfumed, meaty in essence but pretty at the same time. Floral. Its tastes of game, black cherries and strawberries-dipped-in-chocolate, the latter of which makes it sound ‘sweet’ but it’s not; there are so many earth/spice/smoke/meat characters here that it largely comes across as savoury. This will age but I’d personally drink it now; there’s already so much going on. CAMPBELL MATTINSON, The Wine Front

Escarpment Pinot Noir 2021
The 2021 Pinot Noir is svelte and balanced; it's really settled into itself now at two years post-harvest. There's a nice, fleshy green parsley note on the nose. The fruit tastes ripe and fleshy and feels it in the mouth too. Nice mineral acidity shapes the wine and keeps it alive in the mouth. This is super pleasurable drinking here. There are pomegranate pearls and pink peppercorns. There is energy here. 13% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.
This is composed of 61.5% Te Muna Road Vineyard, with the balance from in town. It was plunged once daily and spent 20 days on the skins. Aging was in 22% new oak for 11 months, with a further nine months in tank. Bottled unfined and unfiltered. ERIN LARKIN, The Wine Advocate
Most if not all escarpment Pinots Noir need to be given the time to develop, build complexities and show their true potential. This was the legacy that Larry Mackenna and his team set, today’s team led by Tim Bourne is continuing this legacy easily showcased in this wine. Aromas and flavours are rich and taut, complex and detailed. A wine that opens up to reveal its potential after 3 days open. Dark berries and plum, spices and dried herb, savoury and complex, mushroom and smoke. Lengthy, dry and complex. Best drinking from 2026 through 2036. Escarpment Pahi Pinot Noir 2021
The 2021 Pahi Pinot Noir has a gorgeous nose that's totally expressive and pure in its outlay of aroma, with Pink Lady apples, pomegranate pearls, layers of red cherry, white strawberry, star anise, a hint of arnica/mint and a ripple of sumac and blood orange/ginger spice through the finish. Superb, gorgeous with lovely energy. The nose is laced with freshly turned red earth, which is crazy because there is no "freshly turned red earth" in the vineyard, yet it is ferruginous, iodine-y, etc., which carries through all the 2021 single-vineyard Pinots. Tannins are silky. With 58% whole bunch, there's "big bunch energy," joked winemaker Tim Bourne. I agree.13.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.
Pahi tends to have a lifted perfume—"'Te Muna Road perfume' we call that," says Tim. Grapes were picked on April 3 and spent 25 days on skins. Clone 5 and Abel were used. Aging was in 25% new oak for 20 months, racked once, then bottled unfined and unfiltered. (95) ERIN LARKIN,. The Wine Advocate
An enticing fragrance of fresh dark cherries and dried herbs, plum and sweet wood with a light smoke touch. There’s a gentle perfume and floral frame. On the palate firm touch with a core of ripe dark berried fruits for contrast. There’s some subtle power with tannins and acidity framing the wine nicely and a core of fruit flavours that reflect the bouquet. The same name but not the same soil, very stony here. A fine fresh mid purple. Altogether finer than the village wine with a racy quality through the middle of the raspberry fruit, the limestone seems much closer here. Medium length in the classy finish. JASPER MORRIS MW
…There is good power and more volume to the delicious medium-bodied flavors that possess more size and weight, all wrapped in a mildly more rustic and youthfully austere finish. BURGHOUND

Marchesi Alfieri Metodo Classico Blanc de Noir 2018Made from 100% pinot noir fruit, first introduced into the Alfieri estate in the mid-19th century. Fermentation is done in bottle and the wines sits on lees for over two years. Dosage is only 4 grams, making the wine extremely dry and very fine. In a blind lineup, it would be difficult to pick this out from a set of Champagnes. PWS
Straw yellow color with light green highlights, fine and persistent perlage. Delicate aroma of citrus fruits melding with mineral hints of graphite and flint; eventually flowing into more persistent aromas of bread crust and yellow flowers. Soft and creamy on the palate with a long excellent finish. MARCHESI ALFIERI2018Pinot noirItaly457$79.00 As low as $71.10 -

Sandhi Santa Rita Hills Pinot Noir 2021
The 2021 Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills has a medium ruby color and pretty scents of cinnamon stick, aniseed, iron, underbrush and charcuterie with a core of red cherries and cranberries. Medium-bodied yet very concentrated, it has a powdery frame, sparks of refreshing acidity and a very long, graphite-driven finish. Precise and detailed, it deserves to spend another 2-3 years in bottle. (96) ERIN BROOKS, Wine Advocate

De Bortoli Estate Pinot Noir 2023From three, mainly south and east facing sites, all planted in the early 1990's. A light, bright ruby red. Red plum, cherries and pomegranate combine with some crushed flowers and white pepper in this stylish and, always, well priced wine. The palate is light to medium bodied with those aforementioned red fruits, some underbrush and very fine, persistent tannins. PHILIP RICH, Halliday Wine Companion
The Estate Vineyard wines are elegant, handcrafted wines that reflect the unique characters of the De Bortoli Yarra Valley Estate in Dixons Creek where this essentially single vineyard wines from mature vine is made with minimal handling and thoughtful winemaking. Exceptional quality
with a distinct sense of place.
There is a lovely smokey cedary thing going on here, its really inviting giving the pure red fruits and soft sweet spices a lovely counterpoint. A touch of darky cherry and a little wild strawberry as well. That smoky things continues on the palate with combo of black and red forest fruits to the fore and a little garrigue like finish that close it out. It looks pretty serious in some sense but at the same time easy to drink, keeping you come back for more.2023Pinot noirAustralia506$26.00 As low as $23.40
