A step up in quality and intensity, but also a bity more tightly wound than the Village wine. Also, more awash with minerality, bordering on estuarine (a character I love with these wines), and that really brings the Chabliness to the fore. Well, this is a wild one for sure. It’s kind of sweaty and clove spiced, oyster shell, white mushroom, lime and cape gooseberry. It’s saline and savoury, powdery and dusty in texture, some cashew cream in the mix, with a curry leaf finish of good length. It’s kind of dirty, and yet, I find it strangely compelling. Makes you smile this wine. There's a generosity of aromatic that leads you through baked pastry, fresh cut stonefruits and then an invogorating punch of crushed stone minerality puffs into view. It's kind of like a Champagne letting it's hair down on the palate as well, genrosity of well-defined fruit is edged with minerality and oyster shell while the fine bead cinches and tucks in the effusive edges. Its got enough in it for the serious-minded fizz drinker but is also playful and generous enough to keep you pulling it out of the fridge for pretth much any pcassion. It has all the bells and whistles. As a Champagne nerd I love to see that in the wine, as distinctly different to my fetish for Grower Bubbles, give me some of that expressively yeasty goodness. Dormilona Clayface Chardonnay 2023No oak at all as Clayface is an amphora wine; the fruit is basket pressed to a single Italian amphora. This started out shy on the aromatic front, even if the palate came out textural and seductive. Petilia Quattro Venti Greco di Tufo Riserva 2020Quite a different beast to the 'entry' Greco offering. There's a palpable intensity, structure and savouriness to the wine.
