P & A Vin de France Pinot Noir Cuvee Reserve 2021The P & V wines are from our friend and Burgundy madman Nicolas Potel. These are the wines that epitomise the term vin-de-soif. These are absolutely gluggable, definitely chillable and straight-up delicious fair from the southern reached of France where Nicolas, via is network of winemaking legends sources fruit from top growers.
Dried cranberries and spiced black and red cherries on the nose are tempered by faint notes of earth. Its cushioned core offers just the right amount of flesh for a mid-weight style, a spine of savoury tannins corrals the flow of fruit nicely. Its pinot DNA is on full show here as details are threaded throughout its delivery. Signs off with a fine tail of silty tannins. GABRIELLE POY

Roche de Bellene Bourgogne Pinot Noir Cuvee Reserve 2022From that mad-man Nicolas Potel this is no second thought, left-over grapes, I'll see what I can do, situation for his second label. After starting Domaine de Bellene in 2008, shortly after he launched the maison side working closely with the same growers and domains that Potel had built relationships with over the past 15 years, living and working in Beaune. Like his domaine, he chooses to focus on individual terroirs mainly from old vines (40 years old or older) only working with sites that are BIO certified or at the very least farmed according to the principles of lutte rasionee. This philosophy allows Nicolas to consistently produce the expressive, terroir-driven style that is his vision at affordable prices.
The entry-level red Burgundy comes from vineyards in the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. The vines range in age from 30 to 80 years and are farmed sustainably. The major part of this wine is matured in barriques and the remainder is done in stainless steel. This maintains a pure style with bright fruit and a fine texture.
This looks great in 2022! A heady mix of red and black cherry, some ground sweet spice and bit of black pepper, savoury elements winking at you behind the plush fruit profile. Lovely drive of fruit that rushes your palate slowly fading away revealing a little savoury goodness in some darker spice and fresh crushed herb notes. The Collottes have been grape growers in Marsannay for four generations, but it wasn’t until 1981 that a young, 16 year-old Philippe Collotte bottled the first wine under the name of Domaine Collotte. He subsequently leased some mature vineyards of about 40 years of age in both Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny, to further expand the domaine’s repertoire.In 2013 Philippe was joined by his daughter Isabelle, who had just completed her viticulture and oenology studies at the Lycée Viticole de Beaune. Whilst Isabelle focusses particularly on the production of the domaine’s white wines, there is no doubt that her addition to the team has helped refine the quality of the wines across the board.

Louis Picamelot Cremant Les Terroirs Rose NVSiren song aromatics of strawberries and cream, a little tarragon and mineral and maybe a little vanilla lead you head first into the glass. So enticing and welcoming and it continues on the palate with the same ebullient fruit held within a soft and pillowy mousse creating an almost sensual decadent impression. Alongside that though is real energy and vigour elevating the fruit and spice (and a little sage) element in the wine. It's so beuatiuflly put together this wine and would leave a number of it's Champagne cousins for dead and ashamed of their pricing. Gorgeous sparkling. MICHAEL MCNAMARA
One of the crew called this “soft and mellow” I can see where that comes from, it certainly has a lovely mouth filling quality and all those billowing soft bubbles provide such a sensual cushioning effect, but the wine lacks nothing for racy energy either. I don't think its soft, I think it's lush!
Also, I love the fine chalkiness that punctuates the fruit. Like its BdB sibling the lights are flashing and the sirens are cranked up, they don’t shy away from the winemaking and let’s be honest, that’s what makes Champa… sparkling wines like this so exciting. Even with that distinct autolytic creaminess the wines overall impression is one of flirtatious elegance. This Appellation 'Cremant D'Alsace" is made using the traditional method with a secondary fermentation in bottle. It's aged for 32 months before disgorging.
Subtle sparkling with notes of pears, apples and peach, on a festival of light and very elegant bubbles. The palate is dry, notes of granny smith apples and hazelnut, built around a nice, ripe acidity. Delicious festive number !

Deep colour, a glossy purple. Ripe, plush and fruitful. Nice undertow of spice, but the array of dark fleshed fruit is what come across most prominently, it's well rounded and fulsome but the underpinned by fresh acidity and fine, sweet tannins. Anne & Sebastian Bidault Bourgogne Rouge 2022Fruit for this Bourgogne comes from across the communes in which the family operate. Mostly old-vine plantings and more from clay soils than limestone. Spot on aromatics of cherry inlaid with a hint of Asian spice and blue flowers. The palate gives an immediate sweet fruit attack and quickly settles into a medium-bodied frame. Gentle and flowing rather than a wall of flavour and extract, this Bourgogne shows real earthen terroir characters backed by lovely purity of fruit. Francois Carillon Bourgogne Rouge 2021While there is no reviews for this rouge, he doesn't make much, we continue to buy it every year as the quality has been consistently excellent. So much so that it seems to be popping up in more and more staff orders, always a good sign. The red also has garnered a bit of a following here amongst some customers. For the price I think it's a bit of a steal, many Bourg Rouge are now topping the $100 mark. He doesn't make us take it, we buy it because we think it's excellent. I suggest trying some yourself. They offer some of the best value Burgundy anywhere and the quality, we feel, will only continue to get better. Recently the estate was purchased by a wealthy French family who also own Chateau Signac in the Rhone. They have injected both energy, time and cash to the already modern winery and have allowed its dynamic winemaking duo free reign. Sophisticate nose of raspberry, crushed strawberry that leads with dried citrus peel and stoney, mineral notes that fleck the lifted nose. Mid-weight with lovely drive but not overblown or heavy. The minerally, flinty, palate keeps everything fresh and vibrant with a lovely purity but also a wild, untamed nature as well. Its got the best of rustic charm and purity combined with a generosity of soft red fruits. Lovely wine. Really lovely.

Gabin et Felix Richoux Irancy Veaupessiot 2018Thierry embraces each vintage for its uniqueness, which makes for a lot of diversity between years. Veaupessiot, like the other Irancy wines in the range, when first opened can hold its cards close to the chest—2010, 2013 and 2015 vintages are exceptions. Like a great Nebbiolo wine, the initial resistance begins to soften with time open and all its noble qualities begin to unfold from the glass. They are a rustic, clean style of wine that with patience shows an array of specific noble complexities unique to this place. Veaupessiot is the most elegant and brightly aromatic than the other lieux-dits bottlings, Les Cailles and La Palotte. Les Cailles is the more stern and stony with equal polish and La Palotte the more rustic and earthy ode to the past glories of Irancy. THE SOURCE

Of course its Burgundy for this stage. What else could it be? The wines of Boris Champy are such a delight. Incredible complexity but in an easy drinking and plush package. It's a combo that is hard to beat.
This wine results from the blending of 2 plots: " En Bignon " (clay soil on hard limestone) and " Le Clou" (white chalky soil, significant gravelling on yellow marl) from Nantoux. The complexity and diversity of the different plots is expressed through the wine, which reveals the potential of the Hautes Cotes and the impact of altitude on the wine, which is why the "cuvée" is named after it. Hand harvest at optimum maturity. Winemaking : careful extraction, 50% whole cluster, wooden fermenters. Barrel aging: 12 months in average with 15% new oak.
Stone fruit, hints of cedar and undergrowth form the aromatic structure of this wine. The palate is very expressive, packed with delicious red and black fruit and showing a nice underlying acidity. This wine is true to the image we have of a perfect Burgundy, immensely pleasurable, refined and very "thirst-quenching".

Domaine Rapet Savigny les Beaune Aux Fournaux 2021Aux Fourneaux is split between Premier Cru (top half) and Village status where the vines begin to level out. The Rapet's own vines in both sectors so this Villages has been bolstered by 1er fruit (but is declassified to a villages).
… A light bouquet, prettily floral, continuing through to the back of the palate. Good fruit acid balance with some charm and length. JASPER MORRIS MWThe name suggests it's from a warm site (fourneaux meaning ovens), but it's not. It's referring to the charcoal ovens which…. A mix of rosehip, spiced red cherries with accents of rosemary and cigar boxes lure you in. The delineation of fruit and freshness on this Savigny les Beaune is a drawcard. The 2021 Bourgogne Les Pince Vin is lovely. Bright acids give this aromatic, soft Bourgogne terrific energy to complement its soft, open-knit personality. Bright, red-toned fruit, tobacco, cedar and crushed flowers all grace this nuanced, inviting 2021. All the elements are very nicely balanced.
