  1. Guigal Cotes du Rhone Rouge 2019 375ml
Guigal Cotes du Rhone Rouge 2019 375ml
The 2019 Côtes Du Rhône will be a no-brainer purchase. This Syrah-heavy red has lots of blackberry, bouquet garni, and peppery notes in a ripe, full-bodied, textured style. It’s well worth buying and drinking over the coming 5-7 years. JEB DUNNUCK

The 2019 Cotes du Rhone features scents of blackberries, raspberries and cherries. Medium to full-bodied, it's atypically rich and structured—a fine, balanced summation of the vintage. JOE CZERWINSKI Wine Advocate

Fournier Freres Cidre Artisanal de Normandie Brut 750ml

    STAGE 4 - HILLY - DUNKERQUE > CALAIS 171.5 KM

Silver medalist in 2009 and Gold Medal in 2010 and 2011 - Agricole de Paris competition.

A blend of 100% Normandy cider apples, selected for their delicate flavours combining freshness and thirst-quenching, associated with slow fermentation. This is farm-to-table stuff here as the Fournier crew source apples only from their own oarchards.

That earthy, Normandy cider nose with with wild foresty notes and a melange of red and green apple. A mellow, persistent bead in a round and mouthfilling style. Crunchy and crisp and on the drier side of cider. A bit of a chalky hit and little bit of grip but certainly on the easy and generous side of things. Serve chilled but not too cold to get the most out of it.

    P & A Vin de France Grenache Syrah 2021
The P & A wines are from our friend and Burgundy madman Nicolas Potel. These are the wines that epitomise the term vin-de-soif. These are absolutely gluggable, definitely chillable and straight-up delicious fair from the southern reached of France where Nicolas, via is network of winemaking legends sources fruit from top growers.

This little beauty is crafted by Potel's partner in crime Stephane Aviron who brings his consdiderable talents to the table. there is an elegance and purity to the wine with underlying terroir drive that shouldn't be a surprise to anyone who tried Nicola or Stephane's wines.

Wafts of raspberries, black plums and sweet spices lure you in. The core is a vibrant and buoyant mass of black and red berries, wrapped in an elegant framework. Subtle notes of rosemary come from a thoughtful use of whole bunch. This overdelivers hands down on its humble price point, no need to second guess here. GABRIELLE POY

  4. Felicette Grenache Blanc 2021
    Felicette Grenache Blanc 2021

The Félicette wines originate from the Languedoc-Roussillon region in the south of France, along its southern-most coastline of the Mediterranean. Coming from vineyards between Narbonne and Béziers, the grapes are de-stemmed, undergo cold maceration and gentle ferments. The Félicette Blanc is mostly Grenache Blanc, with a little Viogner.

Yum! Such and intriguing and inviting nose. A little fresh mint, sliced pear and a hint of apricot are all wrapped in a zest and punchy nose. This is pure and plush, no oak used to trick it up relying on grenache blanc slippery textural elements to carry the long palate. A little more apple and tree fruits smashed together with some apricot and peach for good measure. It's a little spicy, it's a little fruity and it has a ton energy and vibrancy to boot. Not exactly heavy but definitely not light either. A great winter white.

Baron Jacques Cremant de Bourgogne Brut NV
    STAGE 7 - INDIVIDUAL TIME-TRIAL - NUITS-SAINT-GEORGES > GEVREY-CHAMBERTIN 25.3 KM

This sparkling Burgundy (not to be confused with the old term for Aussie sparkling red) is made entirely from Chardonnay and, honestly, it's a mystery as to how something this good comes at this price. The wine is produced by an estate which is over 100 years old, from premium vineyards and spent 9 months in bottle developing a gentle complexity before release. Light, crisp and fun, it's a fizz which won't break the bank and seriously over delivers.

OK so its not the usual Champs-Élysées finish and this stage isn't even the finish line but we have to have a sparkling at some point. This is cracking stuff, unbelievable good value for the money, lovely fruit but crunchy and dry. Perfect to wet the whistle after a quick sprint.

  6. Delas Cote du Rhone Ventoux 2021
Delas Cote du Rhone Ventoux 2021
Delas Freres is a winery of tradition and renewal. Founded 160 years ago in the heart of the northern Côtes du Rhône, Delas wines are crafted by a panel of experts headed by winemaker Jacques Grange. Together, the team makes wines that have been heralded for their intensity of flavour and excellent value. Delas maintains a philosophy of preserving the authentic characteristics of each appellation through separate vinification of the fruit from each vineyard.

The Ventoux form Delas is always in a slightly lighter fresher style. We feel like it often gets over looked but from year to year it offers up the same quality and drinking pleasure of Delas' other rhone bottlings. Here, a little more red cherry and currant fruit is to the fore with white & black pepper sprinkling that slowly fades giving way to more heady luxe spice in the glass. It tips past the mid-point into slightly more fuller then in some years but is plenty vibrant and fresh. Fine tannins support the supple and open fruits. Another winner!

  7. Domaine de Chatillon Jacquere 2020
    Domaine de Chatillon Jacquere 2020
We were a bit chuffed to get this wine when trying it recently particularly given that you don't see a lot of jacquere wines out of Savoie at the price. The chateau is based in the Chatillon castle, a Roman watch tower built 70AD to signal the regiments along the Rhone River. It's pretty striking stuff in the hills there and the high-altitude vineyards lend a lovely racy edge to the wines.

Light bodied and crisp with a clean, steely minerality and light floral blossom accents on top of waxy citrus and green apple fruit. On the palate it races through cutting with mandarin and lemon peel apple/pear flavours and plenty of energetic acidity that drives a clean, mineral finish spiked with qartz and white pepper. Great stuff!

  8. Chateau du Rouet Cuvee Reserve Rose 2021 375ml
Chateau du Rouet Cuvee Reserve Rose 2021 375ml
Never judge a book buy it's cover right? Mostly, you see the colour of this and you at least know you are on good footing to begin with. It's pale, like a blush of peach. Properly dry with a splash of sweet citrus, mandarin, ripe red grapefruit, a just tart orange aspect and then some lovely peach notes. All this is underpinned by a bright, clear, palate cleansing freshness and a nice pithy texture that licks at the sides of your mouth. It's long and energising, it both slackens the thirst with its buoyant, uplifting feel and engages the old taste buds and sets the salivary glands quivering. Who doesn't love Rose like this? It's so enjoyable to drink. ROSCOE

  9. Domaine Pajot Cotes de Gascogne Blanc 2022
Domaine Pajot Cotes de Gascogne Blanc 2022
The Domaine itself is plonked on the hills overlooking Eauze the capital of Armagnac. Its certified organic and has eighty acres of vines that grow on the gentle hills of sand and fine silt soils. All harvests are done by hand and the domaine does not use any chemical fertilizers or pesticides. This is a dry and textural blend of Colombard, Ugni-Blanc, Sauvignon, and Gros-Manseng.

We were super impressed with the latest vintage here. Much more texture and weight then in previous vintage with an emphasis on phenolic grip and slippery fruit. There is lovely chalky, white pepper note on the nose with fresh nashi pear and green apple to the fore. It's a lovely ride on the palate and this skates a line for serious and textural as well as fruity and forward beautifully.

Delas Cote du Rhone Saint Esprit 2022
A serious Cotes-du-Rhone. Full forest berry fruit with delicate spice, bitter chocolate and licorice notes. Impressive depth and some real structure on the full-bodied palate. I love the way the generous, rather fine tannins carry the long, spicy and fresh finish. A cuvee based on 60% grenache, mostly from the Vaucuse region, with about 30% syrah from the Gard and small amounts of mourvedre and other traditional grape varieties. JAMES SUCKLING

  11. Fontareche Corbieres Rouge Vieilles Vignes 2022
Fontareche Corbieres Rouge Vieilles Vignes 2022
The Fontarèche property, at the heart of Corbiere in Languedoc-Roussillon, has a long, illustrious and noble history dating back to 1201. Current proprietor, Jacques de Lamy took over from his father, Count Edouard de Lamy in 1957 where the de Lamy family has been in charge of the property since 1682. The estate works with 17 grape varieties, but Carignan is their jewel in the crown. The vines are planted to the semi-desert Mediterranean climate trapped between the Atlantic and Mediterranean. The Atlantic breezes funnel through the mountain ranges that form the backdrop of the region and help to temper the summer heat in the vineyards retaining freshness and vibrancy in the wines.

Wonderfully lifted notes of violets, mulberry and blue fruits all underlined with gentle minerality. The palate is brimming with a core of dark fruits that come together nicely with a focused and energetic finish. It really is surprising the level of subtle complexity at this price point that remains so easy to drink at the same time

  12. Dolin Vermouth Rouge 16%
    Dolin Vermouth Rouge 16%
Dolin Vermouths are notably lighter, drier and less pungent than their larger commercial counterparts. The particular mixture of plants found near Chambéry give a fresh, restrained and elegant nose, with a subtle, complex bittersweet palate. Even the Blanc and Rouge retain great balance, with the sugar never cloying, and just enough bitterness to whet the appetite. Each can be enjoyed as aperitif on ice, with a twist of citrus, or in a broad array of traditional cocktails.

They have done it again! This is my go to white for summer with a lovely lemony, floral lilt and powdery, perfumed nose. Gentle and bright with clean and crisp flavours of orchard fruits and white nectarine. Its uncomplicated and delicious with clean, crunchy fruits and a zippy, minerally finish. Ridiculous value. 14. Rive Droite Rive Gauche Cotes du Rhone 2020
Rive Droite Rive Gauche Cotes du Rhone 2020
Rive Droite Rive Gauche simply means right bank, left bank and the name derives from fruit for the wine being sourced from both sides of the river - the grenache coming mainly from the left (gauche) and the Syrah from the village of Daumazan (on the rive droite), near Tavel. It is also a French film starring the rotund wine-nut actor Gerard Depardieu - fun fact!

This is a lovely fresh and crunchy styled Rhone from our friends at Rive Droite. There is touch of thyme and bay over red spiced fruits, layered with a little bit of red liquorice. This is a medium bodied rendition with a pure core of raspberry, wild strawberry and splash of black berry fruit in the mix. Its lithe with a lovely fresh cut to the sweet fruits that makes this look wonderfully elegant and damn easy to like.

Rive Droite Rive Gauche Cotes du Rhone 2021
Savoury tannins and ripe black cherries with a note of liquorice prevail in this blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre and the ABV is relatively high, but the wine has balance with a fresh, lifted finish. I'd decant this for lamb chops spiked with rosemary and garlic slices, barbecued if the weather allows. Its name tells us the grapes were sourced from both banks of the Rhône River. 19. Stephane Aviron Beaujolais Village 2023
    Stephane Aviron Beaujolais Village 2023

Stephane's family has been wheeling and dealing in Beaujolais for generations. Based in Fleurie, his father owned an oenological laboratory and worked as a wine broker where, after completing his studies, Stephane returned to work in the family business as a wine consultant and a winemaker in Chénas. His experience there and history in the region brings a depth of knowledge and intimate detail of the terroirs he now works. That, when combined with Stephane's obvious talent makes for a formidable combination.

Black cherry and bright raspberry with a hit of heady, whole peppercorn spice, touch of cola and lovely burst of five spice that drives the inviting nose home. Super crunchy, raspberry fruit layered in with fine slippery tannins. Bursting with red fruit flavour, bright and bouncy. It's fine and tight with a lovely core of fruit that feels light and airy and at once concentrated and precise in its delivery. A fine Villages.
