  5. Paul Blanck Pinot Gris 2021
    Paul Blanck Pinot Gris 2021

This wine sits in a range the Blancks call "Les Classiques". These are easy, accessible wines made from the traditional Alsatian grape varieties. They are fruit-driven, aromatic, dry wines that give the best of themselves within the first five to seven years, if you wish to retain their primary fruit-driven personality. The screw cap closure enhances this profile and helps the wines keep both freshness and liveliness far longer. They generally come from light soils with sand and gravel as well as sandstone or clay.

Fruit for the Blanck Pinot Gris was sourced from gravel, sand and south-facing clay and limestone vineyards. It was gently whole-bunch pressed before spontaneous alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel.

  8. Ministry of Clouds Tempranillo Grenache 2023
Ministry of Clouds Tempranillo Grenache 2023
60/40% tempranillo/grenache. From grower and estate vines with whole berry and whole bunch carbonic maceration, extended time on skins (four to five weeks), with one grenache parcel at 25 weeks; maturation in 3500 and 5000L foudre, eggs and puncheons. Tempranillo leads with cherry, anise, cola and black plum accented by spicy stem and skin notes; the grenache percolates up with wild raspberry and rosehip notes while giving the palate a more open feel, moderating its partner’s tannins through the middle, cleaning up the tail and giving this real gastronomic purpose. Talk about personality. This is bunchy, meaty, floral and more, its light-but-bright fruit completely infiltrated by savouriness and smokiness and general herbal complexities. This wine is drastically dry and tannic in, as far as I'm concerned, the best of ways. It works as a wild ride through the streets of modern Australian grenache. I love it. (95) CAMPBELL MATTINSON

42% Nielluccio, 33% Syrah, 20% Grenache, 5% Sciaccarellu. Importer: FelixR

This is a very good release. Cherry, fresh strawberry, almost a liquorice root perfume, flowering herbs. It runs tighter on the palate, with some pink grapefruit in with pale red fruits, a saline character, fine dusty peppery texture, with a finish that offers crunch and perfume, and good length. Lots of energy here, and so good to drink. GARY WALSH, The Wine Front

  11. Rimauresq Cru Classe Rose 2023
    Rimauresq Cru Classe Rose 2023
'Rimauresq is one of a handful of estates in the Côtes de Provence designated Cru Classé (“classified growth”), with more than a century of elite rosé behind it, and after tasting this latest arrival, I’m reminded of how transcendent a proper Provençal rosé can be. There’s a lot going on here.  Put your nose in the glass and the fragrant scrub-brush of Provence sprouts up around you, beckoning you to the azure shores of the Mediterranean. Load up. IAN CAUBLE, Master Sommelier

A blend of Cinsault, Grenache Gris, and Tibouren, the Cru Classé that highlights classic Provence terroir of sandy, gravely soils. A mineral thready that pins down crunchy red fruits, some rose petal lift and wonderful vibrancy without sacrificing lush fruits.

The Other Wine Co Pinot Gris 2024

Fragrant and lifted aromas of Packham pear, baked apple, melon skin, white-stone fruit and sweet spice. Fleshy, textured, bright and crunchy. There's a lovely drive of pear, nectarine and some textured, grippy phenolics. Long and very satisfying THE REAL REVIEW

This is a punter friendly wine if ever there was one. It's fruity, it's soft, it's delicious. Sweet pear and red apple flavour do all the work, and very pleasant work it is too. This wine is simple in the most untaxing and pleasurable of ways. CAMPBELL MATTINSON

A zesty wine with notes of nashi pear, Jazz apple and fresh quinces. A hint of loquat and yellow melon. Lemon skin citrus and leisurely flow to the acidity. It's laden with pear nectar fruit weight and a note of ginger jellies. A touch of white tea tannins and grip on the finish that adds an element of mealiness. THE WINE PILOT

  14. Spinifex Papillon 2023
    Spinifex Papillon 2023

Pete Schell's Papillon and I have had a thing going for a while. If I spy it on a wine list it's often what I'll go for as it consistently delivers a great drinking experience and matches a range of foods. This year it's 66/31/3% grenache/cinsault/counoise 3%. Spacious, sapid and energetic, it's all raspberries and cranberries daubed with exotic spice, rose petals, sour cherry, dried herbs and stone. That whoosh of sour red plum at the end gets me every time. So good! (95) DAVE BROOKS, thewinecompanion

This is 66% grenache, 31% cinsault and 3% counoise. Always the shapeshifter is Papillon.
Cool and fresh. Lively and bright. A chillable, slurpy, crunchy red emerges. Red cherry, raspberry, cranberry, alpine herbs, some menthol-like lift, aniseed and pepper, a touch of white chocolate. Good energy here. Some real get up and go. Freshness implicit. Cool. MIKE BENNIE, The Wine Front

Light cherry red hue. Raspberry, blueberry and anise aromas. Bright on the palate: juicy raspberry fruits with hints of rosemary and dusty earth adding complexity. The freshness of the acidity makes for a deliciousness that really appeals, and tannins kick through at the back end to dry the finish. STUART KNOX, The Real Review

    Artuke Pies Negros Rioja 2022
An excellent red with lots of cherries, plums, grilled herbs, peppery spices and touches of chalk and graphite. The slightly rustic tannins offer gravity and the energy and bright acidity make you want to drink more than one glass. Tempranillo and graciano. ZEKUN SHUAI, James Suckling

The 2022 Pies Negros is a blend of 90% Tempranillo and 10% Graciano from Ábalos in the Rioja Alta. Aged for up to 12 months in barrels and foudres, this purple wine displays elder and sour cherry notes with hints of violet and rose. Dry and chalky, the juicy, infusion-like palate unleashes its energy with a faintly grippy touch—a long-lasting, primary Rioja red. JOAQUIN HIDALGO, Vinous

  17. Artuke Finca de los Locos Rioja 2022
Artuke Finca de los Locos Rioja 2022
One of the most intriguing trends in Rioja today, mirroring developments in other wine regions around the world, is the emergence of primary, reductive wines. A prime illustration of this is the 2022 Finca de los Locos, crafted from a blend of 75% Tempranillo, 20% Graciano and 5% Viura. Sourced from a vineyard planted in 1981 in Baños de Ebro, Rioja Alavesa, it was fermented with native yeast and aged for up to 12 months in large oak foudres. The 2022 displays a deep purple hue and unfolds enticing aromas of blueberry, violets and herbs against a backdrop of oak. On the palate, it is dry, juicy and chalky, with refreshing acidity that lends a compact and primary mouthfeel. This is definitely worth a sip. JOAQUIN HIDALGO, Vinous.com

Finca de Los Locos is often the chalkiest and most refreshing of Arturo de Miguel's reds and that's certainly the case here. Sourced from a parcel at 560 metres in Baños de Ebro, this is a well-judged cuvée of Tempranillo, 20% Graciano and 5% Viura, showing subtle stony reduction, good focus and depth, violet and mountain herb aromas, redcurrant and wild strawberry fruit and a pithy finish. 18. Quealy Turbul Moscato Giallo 2022
    Quealy Turbul Moscato Giallo 2022
Given this producer’s love of Italian white varieties, it was only a matter of time before this dry moscato giallo made it as a single varietal. Previously blended into Lina Lool and the zero sulphur/zero sugar Secco Splendido. This inaugural release is so good. A rose gold, copper-orange hue with lovely clarity and the aromas – just heady. Musk, Turkish delight, rosewater, lemon verbena, lychees and turmeric. It is dry and fresh, with stretchy phenolics adding some grip and give, yet there’s a mouth-watering lemon salt character and the acidity keeps this seemingly light on its feet. Alas, a mere 280 bottles produced. (95) JANE FAULKNER, Halliday Wine Companion

The perfume is just wow. Detailed, tightly packed notes and a tantalising deep golden colour. Scents of grape juice, lychee and roses. It’s honeyed blossoms, golden kiwi, quince and Mirabelles. It flows with a smooth, slightly textural, lightly creamy feel and, most importantly, the balancing sweet aromas bitter phenolic grip of green and yellow citrus in the finale. Pungent but lovely. So much power. Sugar and spice and everything nice. (93) KASIA SOBIEIAK, The Wine Front

  20. Artuke Paso Las Manas Rioja 2022
Artuke Paso Las Manas Rioja 2022
Being part of the Rioja'n'Roll collective, Artuke is pushing the boundaries of Rioja. The 2022 Artuke Paso Las Mañas is a prime example of this innovation. It is 100% Tempranillo sourced from Samaniego, Rioja Alavesa. Aged for up to 12 months in foudres, this purple wine offers wild herbs and sour cherries on the nose, with violet and cedar hints. Dry and firm on the palate, the juicy and fine-grained tannins convey a compact, vibrant flow. This is a bold, fruit-forward wine bottled in a primary, reductive-like style, showcasing the dynamic spirit of modern Rioja winemaking. JOAQUIN HIDALGO, Vinous.com

Paso Las Mañas comes from one of the highest vineyards in Samaniego, planted as recently as 2013 at 720 metres. Denser and more compact than Artuke's other reds, even in a hot vintage like 2022, this is firm, chalky and very intense, with mountain herb aromas, damson, cranberry and blueberry flavours and a sturdy backbone of tannin.TIM ATKIN MW, Rioja Report 2025

  21. Artuke El Escolladero Rioja 2022
    Artuke El Escolladero Rioja 2022

El Escolladero is a cuvée of Tempranillo and 15% Graciano from vines at 640 metres in cool climate Ábalos. Aged in larger foudres to soften its tannic structure, it has density and grip, damson, cranberry and black cherry fruit, muscular tannins, a hint of good reduction and plenty of texture and concentration.  (96) TIM ATKIN MW, Rioja Report 2025

The 2022 El Escolladero is 85% Tempranillo and 15% Graciano sourced from El Meadero in Ábalos, Rioja Alta. Aged for up to 12 months in foudres, this purple wine presents aromas of balsamic with an elder and sour cherry core, framed by an oaky touch. Dry, juicy and compact on the palate, this vibrant, fine-grained, chalky-textured wine lingers long with a whiff of pure, primary fruit—a modern Rioja wine. 22. Artuke La Condenada Rioja 2022
    Artuke La Condenada Rioja 2022
It has something special about it," says Arturo de Miguel of this remarkable 0.75- hectare parcel planted in 1920 and brought back from near abandonment in 2013. Rightly recognised as one of the world's great wines, this is a field blend of Tempranillo, 9% Graciano, 6% Garnacha and 5% Palomino. Floral, refined but concentrated at the same time, it has some subtle reduction, succulent tannins, sweet bramble, plum and wild strawberry fruit, a hint of garrigue and a long, satisfying finish (97) TIM ATKIN MW, Rioja Report 2025

The 2022 La Condenada is 80% Tempranillo and 20% Graciano, Garnacha and Palomino sourced from sandy loams in Baños de Ebro, Rioja Alavesa. Aged for up to 12 months in foudres, this garnet red wine offers a liqueur-like aroma of sour cherry and plum. Dry, lean and bold on the palate, the fine-grained tannins and juicy flow lead to a compact and flavorful experience. 23. Mont Redon Chateauneuf du Pape 2022
Mont Redon Chateauneuf du Pape 2022

A well-composed, structured and refined Chateauneuf-du-Pape. The nose reveals notes of dark cherries, cassis, dried thyme, black pepper and a touch of violets. It's full-bodied with fine, firm tannins. The frame of tannins shape up the palate, with dark berries at the core. Plenty of spices and grilled herb character on the palate bring vibrancy and drive. Robust and focused, and the funneled finish has length. Try after 2028.  (96) JAMES SUCKLING

The 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape is brought up in used Burgundy barrels and stainless steel and is 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 8% Mourvèdre, and the rest a mix of permitted varieties. Black raspberries, subtle cassis, graphite, pepper, and beautifully integrated oak define this classy beauty, and it's medium to full-bodied and concentrated, with building, ripe tannins and a great finish. This is a gorgeous wine in the making, but it will probably take 7-8 years to hit maturity. This could be up there with the legendary Mont-Redons. Tasted twice with consistent results. (93-95+) JEB DUNNUCK

60 % Grenache Noir, 30 % Syrah, 8 % Mourvèdre & 2 % Cinsault, Counoise, Muscardin & Vaccarèse. Hand harvested and 100 % destemmed before fermentation over 15 to 20 days, with extraction via plunging the cap as required. Following the malolactic, a rigorous selection is performed and batches that do not meet the Estate’s quality criteria are sold in bulk. The selected batches are matured for 12 months in approximately 50 % barrels and 50 % stainless steel tanks. At this point another selection is made and any lesser batches are again sold in bulk. The final blend is then assembled in tank and matured for a further 6 months before bottling, then a further 4 to 6 months in bottle before it is available for shipping.

  24. Exopto Bozeto de Exopto Rioja 2023
Exopto Bozeto de Exopto Rioja 2023

This wine has dropped the Bozeto styling and is now simply called Exopto. New name, same vibrant, great-value Rioja. This pan-regional expression of Rioja’s three principal grape varieties is conceived as a lively, easy-drinking introduction to the range. Most entry-level wines from this region are based on Tempranillo (a variety easier and more profitable to grow), yet here Garnacha represents 65% of the blend. This Garnacha hails from very old vines in the sandy, river-stone terroirs of El Agudo and Al Casillón at Alfaro (Rioja Oriental). The Tempranillo is drawn from a selection of mature vines in Ábalos (high-county Rioja Alta), and some Ábalos Graciano adds freshness and finesse.

The wine ferments in a combination of concrete and steel tank, then ages for six months in concrete and 5,000-litre oak vats. These days, Tom includes a measure of semi-carbonic maceration for extra buoyancy. Opening with perfumes of dusky berries and well-judged spice, this is a wonderfully aromatic, restaurant-friendly wine. It’s a wine that impresses with its precision rather than power. Even so, the warmer year gives an open, juicy wine and a great deal of drinking pleasure: spice, vibrancy and velvety flow flecked with notes of espresso, dried flowers and wild woody herbiness to go with its smoky blackberry fruit. If you’re looking for a bright, succulent grower Rioja, few will deliver better value than this.

    Duseigneur Lirac Antares 2021

Looking at the 2021s from barrel, the 2021 Lirac Antares shows the fresher style of the vintage yet still brings solid fruit and texture. Spice, violets, flowers, and lavender as well as both red and black fruits define the nose, and it's balanced, has fine tannins, and lots to like. JEB DUNNUCK

Antarès is the main star of the constellation of Scorpio. One of the basic principles of biodynamics is to work in harmony with cosmic rhythms. Antarès is a selection of vines located on hillsides facing North, at the Western end of the Lirac appellation, at an altitude of 160m. The vines are 50 years old. The harvest is fully de-stemmed. Each variety is vinified separately using  natural yeasts. The Grenache is aged in cement vats, the Mourvèdre in old French oak demi-muids  for 12 months.

60% Grenache, 40% Mouvèdre farmed organically (Certified).Notes of strawberry, black raspberries, pine, sandalwood and a hint of ground black pepper in this ripe but restrained blend. A full-bodied and concentrated wine that maintains remarkable vibrance and acidity throughout. Fine-grained tannins accentuate its youthful appeal. Supple mouthfeel, we love the generosity of mid palate filled with ripe black berries and blue fruits and spices. Beautiful Lirac for all lovers of great Southern Rhone reds.

Artuke Finca de los Locos Rioja 2021
Finca de Los Locos is an old, single vineyard wine grown high on slopes of the Cantabrian mountians north of the town of Banos. Arturo and Kike de Miguel’s grandfather planted the vines in the 1950s, though other farmers of the day thought he was mad to work such a difficult, rock-strewn slope when so much land was available on the flat plains of the Rioja Valley floor. Sixty years later however, this single parcel is consistently producing some of the finest examples of terroir-focused wine in the region. Made with 90% Tempranillo and 10% Graciano, Finca de Los Locos is black-fruited, decidedly cool climate and massively over delivers for the price. ALIMENTARIA
