Pavillon de Chavannes Cote de Brouilly Ambassades 2022The history of Pavillon de Chavannes is deeply intertwined with that of Château Thivin, another esteemed estate in Côte de Brouilly. In 1861, the Jambon-Chanrion family acquired the estate. The pivotal moment came after World War I, when Yvonne Chanrion married Claude Geoffray, heir to Château Thivin. Yvonne brought with her one-third of her family’s prized vineyards and later acquired another third from her sister. While Yvonne and Claude expanded Thivin’s holdings together, they never had children. Upon Yvonne’s passing in 1987, her family’s original vineyard inheritance returned to Paul Jambon of the Jambon-Chanrion family, along with half of the additional lands she and Claude had purchased. Dominique Piron Morgon Cote de Py 2021The 2022 Morgon Côte du Py is mostly destemmed, with a three-week maceration in used barrels. It has more red fruit on the nose than the Grand Cras, hints of blood orange tincturing the raspberry and wild strawberry—nicely controlled. The palate is medium-bodied with finely-tuned tannins, complex and well-balanced, notably mineral-driven on the finish. This is worth seeking out.
