Pavillon de Chavannes Cote de Brouilly Ambassades 2022The history of Pavillon de Chavannes is deeply intertwined with that of Château Thivin, another esteemed estate in Côte de Brouilly. In 1861, the Jambon-Chanrion family acquired the estate. The pivotal moment came after World War I, when Yvonne Chanrion married Claude Geoffray, heir to Château Thivin. Yvonne brought with her one-third of her family’s prized vineyards and later acquired another third from her sister. While Yvonne and Claude expanded Thivin’s holdings together, they never had children. Upon Yvonne’s passing in 1987, her family’s original vineyard inheritance returned to Paul Jambon of the Jambon-Chanrion family, along with half of the additional lands she and Claude had purchased. Dominique Piron Morgon Cote de Py 2021The 2022 Morgon Côte du Py is mostly destemmed, with a three-week maceration in used barrels. It has more red fruit on the nose than the Grand Cras, hints of blood orange tincturing the raspberry and wild strawberry—nicely controlled. The palate is medium-bodied with finely-tuned tannins, complex and well-balanced, notably mineral-driven on the finish. This is worth seeking out. This is a blend with grenache Blanc grown at the De Bortoli Melville's vineyard on the eastern edge of the Rutherglen region. The marsanne and roussanne are grown on the De Bortoli Shelley's Vineyard which is approximately 800m from the Melvilles Vineyard.
Picked in the cool of the morning and handled gently with non-oxidative winemaking techniques and cool temperatures at every stage. The wines were 100% fermented in stainless steel tanks to ensure they maintained all of their varietal freshness, crispness and great acidity.
The palate is fresh and crisp with a crunchy drinkability and textural mouth-filling palate. The blend has flavours of pears, apples, minerals and herbs, which follows onto the palate with a delicate richness and textured dry finish.
