Onannon Main Ridge Tudibaring Pinot Noir 2022So pretty and appealing thanks to its up-front red cherries and spice flavours. At first quite fruit-sweet, then other elements come into play: tangy, tart, pomegranate-like acidity, a touch of menthol. The oak is oh-so-subtle, adding some background nuances to the lighter-framed palate with lacy tannins. This is lovely. All fruit is destemmed, cold soaked for seven days in a carbonic environment and spends six weeks on skins, then pressed straight to oak, 15% new. (95) JANE FAULKNER Wine Companion

Zind Humbrecht Riesling Roche Roulee 2021Stunning citrus fruit, generous body and excellent concentration with a vibrant acidity makes this a very expressive and appealing dry riesling, that does all the things people expect from Sancerre which it doesn't always deliver. Vivacious and uber refreshing, this positively hums with a primal energy and delivers it all with an emphatic snap of rocky mineral tension that clings to the medium bodied, pithy, zesty fruit that struts across your mouth like it has somewhere important to be. I love its vim and vigour, at no point is your palate not fully engaged and enlivened. It carries all this character with seeming ease as it slowly unwinds at the back.
The next day there was a distinct florality and a potent lemon oil note that really got me excited. Also the more textural, phenolic, extract components were a little more positively influential. Frankland Estate Smith Cullam Riesling 2023If Isolation Ridge is a melt-in-your-mouth kind of Riesling, Smith Cullam is all racy, ceaseless energy in the glass. It offers quite the contrast, even though the fruit is also sourced from the Isolation Ridge vineyard. Speaks with an airy, floral aroma intensity, citrus and talc. Hunter Smith’s winemaking breaks the usual Aussie Riesling mould in its use of whole bunches and fermentation (40%) in seasoned 500L oak as well as in stainless steel, followed by nine months on lees. Delicate, lemony and spicy with a barley sugar-like sweet tingle on the middle palate. Francois Carillon Bourgogne Rouge 2021While there is no reviews for this rouge, he doesn't make much, we continue to buy it every year as the quality has been consistently excellent. So much so that it seems to be popping up in more and more staff orders, always a good sign. The red also has garnered a bit of a following here amongst some customers. For the price I think it's a bit of a steal, many Bourg Rouge are now topping the $100 mark. He doesn't make us take it, we buy it because we think it's excellent. I suggest trying some yourself. Pooley Butcher's Hill Riesling 2022Riesling from the Butchers Hill vineyard at Richmond in the Coal River Valley. Whole-bunch pressed and fermented in tank with a further five months on fine lees in old French oak. Pristine fruit and unwavering precision = a beautiful wine. Green apple and lime fruits, wildflowers, crushed stone and grapefruit pith with liminal glimpses of lemon curd. It sports a wicked tubular palate shape of pure citrus fruits and rides on mineral-laden rails of acidity, all focus, velocity and detail. Tremendous length of flavour and sustain here. Domaine Barmes Buecher Sylvaner Vielle Vignes Rosenberg 2021The 2021 Sylvaner Rosenberg is made from old vines, planted in 1969/1970, so just over 50 years old. The nose has a faint hint of melted butter and hazelnut. The small harvest meant that it needed to go into used barrique, because there was not enough to fill a foudre. The result is very creamy and smooth, on a slender body, with much lemon freshness. While svelte, this is generous and gorgeously smooth. Quealy Seventeen Rows Pinot Noir 2021The most structured offering in the Quealy stable – the tannins are textural with seemingly more fruit weight. It still has the vivacity of the ’21 vintage, yet incorporates hints of sweet and tart rhubarb, dark cherries, mocha and dried herbs plus cedar oak flavour. The palate doesn’t quite flesh out, even if it is medium bodied, as the acidity is keeping everything reined in, bar the slightly bitter, charred radicchio character on the finish, which adds to the mouthfeel and pleasure of drinking.

Strong release. Both woodsy spice and oak notes aplenty but with the fruit to support it. Back cherries, strawberries, toast and coffee grounds, with cedar and dried herb notes over the top. Massolino Langhe Riesling 2022Screwcap. Massolino planted three clones of Riesling in 2014 in a cool and windswept parcel in Monforte d’Alba. This rocky and limestone-rich plot sits at the hill’s apex at 450-500 metres, just outside the Barolo appellation boundary. After a few years of experimenting with amphora, steel and various types and sizes of oak, the wine today ferments exclusively in a 5,000-litre cement tank, where it rests on lees for nine months.
The use of concrete is hardly commonplace when vinifying Riesling, yet Massolino feels the wine’s brightness and energy merits this approach. It’s hard to disagree, given the coiled energy and purity. It’s a lovely vintage for this wine, with bell-clear apple blossom and white flower flavours allied to the intensity of palate-coating fruitiness and a crunchy lemon and lemongrass close.

Robert Weil Kiedricher Riesling Trocken 2022The 2022 Riesling Kiedricher is from two upper parcels in the of the Wasseros, above the Gräfenberg, which means rivulet, evident in small springs, fed by the forested top of the slope, also on mica schist. This is higher and cooler. One-third is made in wood and two-thirds in stainless steel, from ripe and super-clean fruit. The nose is aromatic, suggesting Reine Claude plum, white peach and green pear skin. Clarity also defines the palate where riper stone fruit shines, framed by grapefruit skin. This has serenity, tautness and substance, despite slenderness. Mouth-watering zestiness appears on the finish. This is a real achievement at an annual volume of more than 100,000 bottles. Escarpment Pahi Pinot Noir 2021The 2021 Pahi Pinot Noir has a gorgeous nose that's totally expressive and pure in its outlay of aroma, with Pink Lady apples, pomegranate pearls, layers of red cherry, white strawberry, star anise, a hint of arnica/mint and a ripple of sumac and blood orange/ginger spice through the finish. Superb, gorgeous with lovely energy. The nose is laced with freshly turned red earth, which is crazy because there is no "freshly turned red earth" in the vineyard, yet it is ferruginous, iodine-y, etc., which carries through all the 2021 single-vineyard Pinots. Tannins are silky. With 58% whole bunch, there's "big bunch energy," joked winemaker Tim Bourne. I agree.13.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

On the palate firm touch with a core of ripe dark berried fruits for contrast. There’s some subtle power with tannins and acidity framing the wine nicely and a core of fruit flavours that reflect the bouquet. Domaine Chanzy Mercurey 'Les Bussieres' 2021We are pretty excited that the wines of Domaine Chanzy will be finding a permanent home in Australia. They offer some of the best value Burgundy anywhere and the quality, we feel, will only continue to get better. Recently the estate was purchased by a wealthy French family who also own Chateau Signac in the Rhone. They have injected both energy, time and cash to the already modern winery and have allowed its dynamic winemaking duo free reign. These are exciting times and Domaine Chanzy and we can't wait to see where they go from here.
Sophisticate nose of raspberry, crushed strawberry that leads with dried citrus peel and stoney, mineral notes that fleck the lifted nose. Mid-weight with lovely drive but not overblown or heavy. The minerally, flinty, palate keeps everything fresh and vibrant with a lovely purity but also a wild, untamed nature as well. Its got the best of rustic charm and purity combined with a generosity of soft red fruits. Lovely wine. Really lovely.

Exceptional concentration of fruit flavour here. This is straight and direct but wow it has a charge to it. Lime, chalk, white flower and wet slate flavours storm through the palate in emphatic fashion. There’s an extra note to the finish that I can’t quite place but I’ll call it brine splashed on potpourri splashed on rocks. Dawson James Pinot Noir 2020The 2020 Pinot Noir is sourced from the Meadowbank vineyard, in the Upper Derwent Valley, in Tasmania. The vineyard site experiences warm days and cool nights, largely unaffected by sea breeze, imbuing the wines with a depth and density of flavor that is bolstered by the spine of juicy acidity (courtesy of the cool night-time temperatures). The wine itself is savory, littered with autumnal undergrowth, enoki mushroom, black cherries and tobacco leaf. The palate is more succulent than the nose would lead us to believe, and it is rich with umami inflections of bone broth and quince paste. Gabin et Felix Richoux Irancy Veaupessiot 2018Thierry embraces each vintage for its uniqueness, which makes for a lot of diversity between years. Veaupessiot, like the other Irancy wines in the range, when first opened can hold its cards close to the chest—2010, 2013 and 2015 vintages are exceptions. Like a great Nebbiolo wine, the initial resistance begins to soften with time open and all its noble qualities begin to unfold from the glass. They are a rustic, clean style of wine that with patience shows an array of specific noble complexities unique to this place. Veaupessiot is the most elegant and brightly aromatic than the other lieux-dits bottlings, Les Cailles and La Palotte. Les Cailles is the more stern and stony with equal polish and La Palotte the more rustic and earthy ode to the past glories of Irancy. THE SOURCE

Of course its Burgundy for this stage. What else could it be? The wines of Boris Champy are such a delight. Incredible complexity but in an easy drinking and plush package. It's a combo that is hard to beat.
This wine results from the blending of 2 plots: " En Bignon " (clay soil on hard limestone) and " Le Clou" (white chalky soil, significant gravelling on yellow marl) from Nantoux. The complexity and diversity of the different plots is expressed through the wine, which reveals the potential of the Hautes Cotes and the impact of altitude on the wine, which is why the "cuvée" is named after it. Hand harvest at optimum maturity. Winemaking : careful extraction, 50% whole cluster, wooden fermenters. Barrel aging: 12 months in average with 15% new oak.
Stone fruit, hints of cedar and undergrowth form the aromatic structure of this wine. The palate is very expressive, packed with delicious red and black fruit and showing a nice underlying acidity. This wine is true to the image we have of a perfect Burgundy, immensely pleasurable, refined and very "thirst-quenching".

Domaine Rapet Savigny les Beaune Aux Fournaux 2021Aux Fourneaux is split between Premier Cru (top half) and Village status where the vines begin to level out. The Rapet's own vines in both sectors so this Villages has been bolstered by 1er fruit (but is declassified to a villages).

A mix of rosehip, spiced red cherries with accents of rosemary and cigar boxes lure you in. The delineation of fruit and freshness on this Savigny les Beaune is a drawcard.
