P & A Vin de France Pinot Noir Cuvee Reserve 2021The P & V wines are from our friend and Burgundy madman Nicolas Potel. These are the wines that epitomise the term vin-de-soif. These are absolutely gluggable, definitely chillable and straight-up delicious fair from the southern reached of France where Nicolas, via is network of winemaking legends sources fruit from top growers.
Dried cranberries and spiced black and red cherries on the nose are tempered by faint notes of earth. Its cushioned core offers just the right amount of flesh for a mid-weight style, a spine of savoury tannins corrals the flow of fruit nicely. Its pinot DNA is on full show here as details are threaded throughout its delivery. Signs off with a fine tail of silty tannins. GABRIELLE POY

Delas Cote du Rhone Saint Esprit 2021One of our favourite rhone reds year-in and year-out. There may be nothing quite as satisfying as a good value Rhone red and this one always delivers. Delas Freres is based in the beautiful northern Rhone with a large holding of their own vineyards supplemented by long-term relationships with quality growers all over the rhone. How they manage to put so much goodness into a bottle at this price is an astonishing feat to say the least.
While this indulgent red reflects the north’s regional dominance of Shiraz over Grenache, it reflects the darker fruits and a spicy earthiness often found in the southern Rhone, where this wine hails from. Silky rather than heavy, it still feels concentrated with bright, bubbly raspberry fruits complimented by a little dollop of wild, blackberry fruit. A waft of violets and pastille fruit just add to its appeal.

Chateau du Rouet Cuvee Reserve Rose 2021 375mlNever judge a book buy it's cover right? Mostly, you see the colour of this and you at least know you are on good footing to begin with. It's pale, like a blush of peach. Properly dry with a splash of sweet citrus, mandarin, ripe red grapefruit, a just tart orange aspect and then some lovely peach notes. All this is underpinned by a bright, clear, palate cleansing freshness and a nice pithy texture that licks at the sides of your mouth. It's long and energising, it both slackens the thirst with its buoyant, uplifting feel and engages the old taste buds and sets the salivary glands quivering. Who doesn't love Rose like this? Solis Cotes de Provence Rose 2023Solis Rose. This is the summer wine we have been waiting for. This is one of the best value Provence rose we have seen in some time and that is saying something given how much good pink is in the market at the moment.
This is pretty classic stuff in all the best ways. A touch of fresh strawberry, snappy red currants, white pepper, a touch of fairy-floss lift and oh-so-inviting sweetly floral nose. It follows with that same wild strawberry and red berry fruit all fleshy and bright with a rim of citrus peel and quartzy-like minerality edging. It punches way above its weight here and while it will go down a treat on a warms summers day its equally at home paired with any BBQ fair you might want to throw at it.

Chateau du Rouet Cuvee Reserve Cotes de Provence Rose 2022A lovely lift of red cherries, pomegranate and white nectarines leads into a fleshy and textured core. Subtle herbal tones of fennel and dried thyme and wild strawberries join in the chorus too. There's presence and intensity thanks to the riper 2022 vintage, balanced by a spine of chalky acidity. Pleasing phenolics on the finish add a tantalising chew, like biting through peach skins. Roche de Bellene Bourgogne Pinot Noir Cuvee Reserve 2022From that mad-man Nicolas Potel this is no second thought, left-over grapes, I'll see what I can do, situation for his second label. After starting Domaine de Bellene in 2008, shortly after he launched the maison side working closely with the same growers and domains that Potel had built relationships with over the past 15 years, living and working in Beaune. Like his domaine, he chooses to focus on individual terroirs mainly from old vines (40 years old or older) only working with sites that are BIO certified or at the very least farmed according to the principles of lutte rasionee. This philosophy allows Nicolas to consistently produce the expressive, terroir-driven style that is his vision at affordable prices.
The entry-level red Burgundy comes from vineyards in the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. The vines range in age from 30 to 80 years and are farmed sustainably. The major part of this wine is matured in barriques and the remainder is done in stainless steel. This maintains a pure style with bright fruit and a fine texture.
This looks great in 2022! A heady mix of red and black cherry, some ground sweet spice and bit of black pepper, savoury elements winking at you behind the plush fruit profile. Lovely drive of fruit that rushes your palate slowly fading away revealing a little savoury goodness in some darker spice and fresh crushed herb notes. The Collottes have been grape growers in Marsannay for four generations, but it wasn’t until 1981 that a young, 16 year-old Philippe Collotte bottled the first wine under the name of Domaine Collotte. He subsequently leased some mature vineyards of about 40 years of age in both Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny, to further expand the domaine’s repertoire.In 2013 Philippe was joined by his daughter Isabelle, who had just completed her viticulture and oenology studies at the Lycée Viticole de Beaune. Whilst Isabelle focusses particularly on the production of the domaine’s white wines, there is no doubt that her addition to the team has helped refine the quality of the wines across the board.

Louis Picamelot Cremant Les Terroirs Rose NVSiren song aromatics of strawberries and cream, a little tarragon and mineral and maybe a little vanilla lead you head first into the glass. So enticing and welcoming and it continues on the palate with the same ebullient fruit held within a soft and pillowy mousse creating an almost sensual decadent impression. Alongside that though is real energy and vigour elevating the fruit and spice (and a little sage) element in the wine. One of the crew called this “soft and mellow” I can see where that comes from, it certainly has a lovely mouth filling quality and all those billowing soft bubbles provide such a sensual cushioning effect, but the wine lacks nothing for racy energy either. I don't think its soft, I think it's lush!
Also, I love the fine chalkiness that punctuates the fruit. Like its BdB sibling the lights are flashing and the sirens are cranked up, they don’t shy away from the winemaking and let’s be honest, that’s what makes Champa… sparkling wines like this so exciting. Even with that distinct autolytic creaminess the wines overall impression is one of flirtatious elegance. This Appellation 'Cremant D'Alsace" is made using the traditional method with a secondary fermentation in bottle. It's aged for 32 months before disgorging.
Subtle sparkling with notes of pears, apples and peach, on a festival of light and very elegant bubbles. The palate is dry, notes of granny smith apples and hazelnut, built around a nice, ripe acidity. Delicious festive number !

Antarès is the main star of the constellation of Scorpio. One of the basic principles of biodynamics is to work in harmony with cosmic rhythms. Antarès is a selection of vines located on hillsides facing North, at the Western end of the Lirac appellation, at an altitude of 160m. The vines are 50 years old. The harvest is fully de-stemmed. Each variety is vinified separately using natural yeasts. The Grenache is aged in cement vats, the Mourvèdre in old French oak demi-muids for 12 months.

Domaine Chanzy Mercurey 'Les Bussieres' 2021We are pretty excited that the wines of Domaine Chanzy will be finding a permanent home in Australia. They offer some of the best value Burgundy anywhere and the quality, we feel, will only continue to get better. Recently the estate was purchased by a wealthy French family who also own Chateau Signac in the Rhone. They have injected both energy, time and cash to the already modern winery and have allowed its dynamic winemaking duo free reign. Domaine Rapet Bourgogne Rouge En Bully 2022Beyond the hill of Corton – almost Hautes Côtes.
Great example of Bourgogne from this Pernand domaine. Lovely crisp, bright, crunchy fruit. Great purity but there is also a freshness and acidity which makes you want to drink more. Not at all hefty but lifted, delicate and showing so much finesse. Well worth considering this for your ‘drinking’ Pinot.
