A splash of malbec makes its way into this wine. Succulent and refreshing red, bright with blueberry and mulberry fruit character, some violet floral lift, minty herbs, clove, black olive and licorice. A feast for the senses in the scents. The palate rolls similarly, supple and bright in texture, medium to fuller weight but lively and energetic with each mouthful. Domaine Pajot Cotes de Gascogne Blanc 2022The Domaine itself is plonked on the hills overlooking Eauze the capital of Armagnac. Its certified organic and has eighty acres of vines that grow on the gentle hills of sand and fine silt soils. All harvests are done by hand and the domaine does not use any chemical fertilizers or pesticides. This is a dry and textural blend of Colombard, Ugni-Blanc, Sauvignon, and Gros-Manseng.
We were super impressed with the latest vintage here. Much more texture and weight then in previous vintage with an emphasis on phenolic grip and slippery fruit. There is lovely chalky, white pepper note on the nose with fresh nashi pear and green apple to the fore. Fontareche Corbieres Rouge Vieilles Vignes 2022The Fontarèche property, at the heart of Corbiere in Languedoc-Roussillon, has a long, illustrious and noble history dating back to 1201. Current proprietor, Jacques de Lamy took over from his father, Count Edouard de Lamy in 1957 where the de Lamy family has been in charge of the property since 1682. The estate works with 17 grape varieties, but Carignan is their jewel in the crown. The vines are planted to the semi-desert Mediterranean climate trapped between the Atlantic and Mediterranean. The Atlantic breezes funnel through the mountain ranges that form the backdrop of the region and help to temper the summer heat in the vineyards retaining freshness and vibrancy in the wines.
Wonderfully lifted notes of violets, mulberry and blue fruits all underlined with gentle minerality. The palate is brimming with a core of dark fruits that come together nicely with a focused and energetic finish. It really is surprising the level of subtle complexity at this price point that remains so easy to drink at the same time

The 2022 Cutio Macabeo has more ripeness from the warm year, but the acidity and freshness were surprisingly high. This year, the white was completely unoaked. It was produced with grapes from Almonacid and matured in concrete with lees that were not stirred until bottling, for some 20 months. It has 13.5% alcohol with a pH of 3.2 and 6.4 grams of acidity. It's clean and precise with very good freshness, coming through as balanced and tasty, elegant and with a sapid, almost salty finish, with no room for sweetness at all. 12,000 bottles produced. Navascues is a family of winemakers in Aragón, Spain, led by Jorge Navascués and his father, Jesús Navascués. They are renowned for working with the Garnacha grape in the Cariñena region in particular but are leading a revolution reviving incredible old vineyards and nearly lost sites in Aragon. Blending traditional winemaking with modern techniques they produce highly-regarded wines. Jorge is a respected winemaker who also heads projects like his personal wine projects and is the head winemaker at Contino. The Navascués family has a long history of winemaking in Aragón with Jorgea third-generation winemaker and a leading figure in Spanish oenology. Tomfoolery Young Blood Shiraz 2023Inspired by the new wave ‘Vino Joven’ wines of the old world, Young Blood Shiraz is released as a cheeky youngster with just a brief barrel maturation to showcase structure and varietal character, while retaining freshness and finesse. The fruit is open fermented utilising native yeasts, with 30% whole bunch in the mix. After 7 days maceration post-ferment, the wine is gently basket pressed and racked to stainless vats (50%) and old French oak hogsheads (50%) for 6 months maturation. Young Blood Shiraz is pure, uncomplicated enjoyment.

Little Frances Eleventh House White Vermentino 2022Little Frances was established in 2012 by Aussie ex-pat Erin Frances Pooley, who set out to make the wines she loves to drink from Californian grapes. Enamoured with the nuance and intrigue of aged white wine (and missing Hunter Valley Semillon from home), Erin started Little Frances in 2012 with just 200 cases of Semillon from a high altitude vineyard in Northern California, farmed by the 3rd generation growers.
We knew of Erin with her work with one of our producers, Hobo Wine Co. Owner Kenny is a friend and mentor and we have been super excited to try her wines and needless to say we were not disappointed.
This blend is vermentino dominant with some aromatic components and textural support from pinot Gris & friulano all from the Apline Valleys, a region which Erin loves for the diversity of varietal selection and what that brings to the table. The trio get fermented in barrels and aged on their lees for a while.
A beautiful co
mbination of zingy freshness, weight and texture. Erin has captured the pristine fruits in peek ripeness then judiciously and cleverly add nuance as well as light and shade to the final wines through throughtful winemaking.

...These ‘Selection’ wines come from outside the estate, and posit another level of value and value add to the existing Osicka stable of wines. This wine feels like a red someone would drink in a tavern, taverna, bistro or trattoria – varietal, accessible, x-factor, deliciousness. Not quite the right label here but close enough. At $28 at full whack this is another gift from the Osicka family.Red cherry, stewed and fresh, some pomegranate juice, a dash of woody spices, some blood orange, a lick of dark chocolate, a pinch of pepper. Tannins tumble in with a gruff but pleasing and somewhat light chew. A graphite mineral line lends detail and a lift. Acidity takes its cue from the blood orange. Pitch perfect. La Prova Sangiovese 2022Sam Scott continues to redefine our expectations of Italian varieties grown in Australian soil. His La Prova label has turned out some of the most breathtaking interpretations of Nebbiolo, Pinot Grigio, Aglianico and Prosecco produced here as well as Sam's most adored variety Sangiovese. The Sangiovese from here remains possibly the most compelling version of this variety that we have seen grown in Australia, period.
This is a great example of Aussie sangiovese that captures the warmth and generosity of our warmer Mediterranean climate while holding on to all those elements that make sangiovese great. A touch of cola, some punch sweet spice and combo of red and black cherries. The palate opens with lush morello cherry fruit and black raspberry flavours that coat the mouth then fall away gently revealing hints of leather, fresh tobacco and those wonderful savoury tannins that make the varietal such a great food wine. The warm sunny fruit is snapped back into place with crunchy acidity which comes in waves with the succulent fruit. Cracking little wine.

Very cool wine. Almond oil and citrus pith on the nose slowly open to reveal orange blossom, green mandarin and saline notes. Some lovely phenolic grip add texture webbing the pristine fruits on the palate together nicely. It starts tangy and fresh with an array of citrus interspersed with rocky notes and green apple fruit. Super refreshing with a long palate that sizzles along to a long supple close.
