  1. Schmolzer and Brown Beechworth Pinot Noir 2022
Schmolzer and Brown Beechworth Pinot Noir 2022

Part of our new high-altitude Beechworth range. A brand-new Pinot Noir for us. An earlier drinking blend comprised of sites across Beechworth, predominantly from our new high-altitude Palmer vineyard in the heart of Stanley. Selections from Brunnen and Indigo vineyards provide a lovely combination of spice and plush red fruit.

A cool growing season, with ample time for flavour development. Whole berry ferment with gentle maceration, this wine is concentrated and complex yet shows the bright acidity and delicacy of high-altitude Pinot Noir. Savoury spice and tart red fruit softened by a subtle 15% new oak component.

  2. Nocturne SR Rose 2022
    Nocturne SR Rose 2022
This has the Julian Langworthy trademark rose-gold blush and texture. The 88% sangiovese is destemmed and left on lees for three months; the 8% tempranillo is whole-bunch pressed to old oak. The remaining 4% is grenache. This comes together beautifully. Fragrant with florals, red licorice, freshly grated ginger and a tinge of red berries. The palate is perfectly modulated between the super-refreshing acidity and its creamy texture. JANE FAULKNER, Halliday Wine Companion

  3. Koerner Pigato Vermentino 2022
    Koerner Pigato Vermentino 2022

This seems to be a bit of a chameleon of a wine, satisfying the turbo nerds of orange wine as much as the L platers, especially in further flung or dipping-toe-in-water venues looking to upsize their alt-wine offering. I get stuck into it a bit, therefore. It spent 20 days as a skin ferment/maceration.

It’s so vivid and vibrant, so thirst-quenching and delicious. Tightly wound, very minerally/briny and thirst quenching with fine, chalky texture, an inherent juiciness and good extension of mouth-watering, nashi pear, dried orange flavours. Fragrant too, but the magic happens in the palate – moreish stuff with drinkability through the roof. Such a clever and good wine. And detailed! Less orange winey this year, more salty white winey with texture, let’s say. Kudos. MIKE BENNIE, www.winefront.com

  4. Reed Powers Grenache Rose 2022
    Reed Powers Grenache Rose 2022
Bit expensive for a first release Australian Rose? Sure is. Here is why. The same fruit that goes in to her Reserve Grenache from that 150 year old plot is used here. That fruit aint cheap. On top of that she only realises about half the yield from the pressing regime. So, production costs here are expensive. Is it worth it? Yes! This was the wine that was the real catalyst for the offer. I will keep a lid on my usual excitable self but I don't want to undersell this either. This is a different beast than the overwhelming majority of rose made here in Oz.
Bone dry and with a sensational sense of zip and liveliness, plenty of pretty Grenache perfume and bright red fruits. A big punch of ruby red grapefruit kicks in as wine quickly expands and really delivers on the promise of punchy, ripe, rich fruit and a subtle creamy textural element. It's bold and solidly built with a real sense of presence. Very long and vivid with an incisive whack of energetic, snappy fruit on the finish. It Australian rose Jim, but not as we know it. If you buy good Bandol you should get on this train asap, it rolls all the way to flavour town. ROSCOE

This rosé was always dwelling in the back of my mind as something that would one day come through me and into the bottle. There were no shortcuts here, this wine was made with all the Gucci trimmings. Whole bunch pressed, 50% pressings yield, 150 year old bush vine Grenache barrel fermented in new Stockinger oak, it's rosé in full wine form. Textured, rich, floral, layered, powerful and long. When rosé is made with this much intention a delicious seriousness is captured in every drop.
Winemaking Rosé: Whole bunch pressed to new Stockinger oak for the early part of the fermentation and then went through malo and élevaged in old Chardonnay barrels, bâttonaged over 6 months at least once a week, sulphured to stop wine from going through full malo because I felt the wine was in a good spot with texture SIERRA

  5. Schmolzer & Brown Pret A Blanc 2022
    Schmolzer & Brown Pret A Blanc 2022

And the kitchen sink… pinot gris, sauvignon blanc, riesling and sylvaner from King Valley all blended up nice ‘n’ pretty. Judiciously, I bet too.

Texture and freshness, summery feel and high drinkability. Kicking goals. It’s in that vein of pleasing, Schweppers Bitter Lemon soft drink territory, a gently fruitiness, sweetness, dryness, bitterness, all just so and very vibrant and refreshing. A bit of alpine herbiness in the mix too. Squeaky textured and mouth-watering as to finish. Ripper drink. MIKE BENNIE, Wine Front

They say it’s based on the Austrian Gemischter Satz style of field blended dry white wine… cool.

Tangy, fresh, lively with wafts of the exotic, something that reminds me a little of a wet season evening in our place in Darwin, it’s that mix of petrichor and tropical flowers like wild ginger and lemongrass. Really quite a lot going on aromatically as the parts vie for prime position. Some stone/pome fruit and herbal elements as well. Keeps you excited. The palate is sizzling, so tasty, with a burst of fruitfulness that tilts its head towards texturally rich while remaining oh so bright and clear. Really long. Thirst slacking stuff but also makes you want to drink more. I can tell you for experience this is not a one glass kind of wine. I would love to see how it evolves in the bottle but, as I mentioned earlier, I am already out of stock in my stash. Great stuff. Drinking it will make you a happier person. It couldn’t be any more joyful if the Dalai Lama himself had made it using the tears of unicorns and fermented it in gold encrusted tanks lined with rubies found at the end of a rainbow ?? ROSCOE

Schmolzer and Brown Pret a Rose 2022

Shiraz and pinot noir from Beechworth is the deal. Ready to roll rose.

It’s delicious! A gentle feast, but one with lots to put on the plate. Cherry, cranberry, rose hip tea, a strawberry sweetness in a dry, ostensibly savoury style. Length and beautiful, succulent texture, great sense of freshness and lift. Crafted, styled, preened and pretty, this is a moreish and wonderful thing to drink. MIKE BENNIE, The Wine Front

  7. Gueissard Le Petit G IGP Mediterranée Rosé 2021
Gueissard Le Petit G IGP Mediterranée Rosé 2021
The Little G that all the homies want to be.  Made with a lot of care considering its level – grapes are hand harvested and manually sorted for starters.  Provence style through and through, it’s of beautiful salmon shade, with a nose of zesty citrus, mandarin and satsuma, the palate fruit driven and crunchy, with some of Gueissard’s house style showing through – a teeny bit of guava skin, red currants, tangarine/mandarin juice, and a herbal undertow.  Summer in a bottle.

  8. Mazi Limited Release Rose 2022
    Mazi Limited Release Rose 2022
Mazi Wines is a collaboration between Alex Katsaros and Toby Porter - life long friends who have realised a dream to make wine together. Toby has been a winemaker at d’Arenberg in McLaren Vale for over14 years while Alex has been making wine and working on alternative variety projects both here and abroad for the last decade. All wines under the Mazi label are made dry in style and focus on food friendliness for you to enjoy the way we do – at the table with friends. The 2022 Limited Release rosé was made from handpicked Mourvedre and Grenache grapes grown in the heart of McLaren Vale.

The fruit was gently whole bunch pressed to delicately extract the spice driven, savoury juice synonymous with Mourvedre grown in the Vale. The very pale salmon hues are the result of the gentle extraction and minimal skin contact prior to fermentation.

  10. Racine Picpoul de Pinet 2022
    Racine Picpoul de Pinet 2022

Picpoul from the coastal reaches of the Mediterranean has become in recent years the 'go to wine' in France for Oysters, shell fish and indeed all fish and with good reason as besides having that dry bite and the acidity that goes with it, it also has good body and underlying fruit flavours. I love it - and particularly as it is made by my good fried Francois Chamboissier who is both a talented winemaker and a great gourmet living in a stunning small village in southern France. What a life!

Another winner this year here. Salt spray and lemon pith with green apple skin on the nose. Plenty of fleshy and juicy fruit with a wonderful zing and mineral thread that gives the pallet a refreshing kick along while the long flavours lay down softly and easily. Lovely drive but nothing sacrificed in flavour either.

  12. Shadowfax Midhill Chardonnay 2021
    Shadowfax Midhill Chardonnay 2021
I’m tempted to say that this wine is built on acidity but the flavour itself is wonderful and I don’t want to give the wrong impression. Let’s just say that fruit intensity is excellent and that it’s strung on strict, straight wires. This wine isn’t a telephone line; it’s a high voltage power cable. Yellow stonefruit flavours reach the front porch of green pineapple; sweet pear walks in the direction of honeysuckle. Cedarwood oak is a player and an appropriate one. This wine is complex, intense and lengthy; it’s chardonnay with its gorgeous face on. CAMPBELL MATTINSON, The Wine Front

  13. Tomfoolery Burla Negra Tempranillo 2022
    Tomfoolery Burla Negra Tempranillo 2022

The fruit from selected vineyards is hand picked and fermented in small open fermenters, which are pumped over by hand twice daily to maximize oxygenation and purity of fermentation. Once the wine is dry it is then gently basket pressed minimizing the extraction of harsh extractive tannins. Matured for 12 months in seasoned French oak barriques.

Characteristic cherry aromas with dried herbs. This seafarin’ wine fires cannonballs of red cherry fruit across the bow with a herby oak lift before walking the plank of fine acid balanced with rich texture, scuttled with a ballast of grainy tannins.

  14. Oakridge Yarra Valley Chardonnay 2022
    Oakridge Yarra Valley Chardonnay 2022

Oakridge's Yarra Valley range showcases several sites across the Yarra with a focus on the Upper Yarra vineyards. This 2022 chardonnay flaunts producer style here giving floral and white stone fruit characters with a flinty struck match quality we know and love them for. There's a lot of flavour in this wine whilst keeping their cool. It's light, delicate and oh-so-fresh. To enjoy with seafood, roast chook or a ripe soft white cheese. pws

Ogier Le Temps Est Venu Cotes du Rhone Blanc 2022
Always a lovely wine and the 2022 has an extra level of freshness and crunchy snap. A blend of grenache blanc, roussanne and a good dollop of viognier. Stone fruits, some quartz mineral notes that thread through the mid palate and sprinkle white pepper to finish. Some slippery textural elements provide length and its cut nicely by a streak crunch acid.

  16. Tapanappa Tiers Chardonnay 2022
    Tapanappa Tiers Chardonnay 2022
This is a seriously impressive chardonnay, I think I prefer it to last year's showstopper, at least in its infancy. It's more honed, refined and tightly coiled than the 1.5M. There's plenty of dense, rich and ripe stone fruit and a little flinty smoke, creamy cashew and fennel seed in the mix also. It's incredibly intense and full of energy and lift. The mouthwatering line of sherbet-like acidity takes the full weight of the wine on its shoulders like Atlas, and whisks the wine along like a flying fox as a tapers into a chalky, pleasantly bitter grapefruit finish. A beautiful wine of multi-dimensional excitement. ALEX DOBSON, PWS

(2021 REVIEW) Pale colour. Intense fresh grapefruit, lime, tonic water aromas with vanilla nougat notes. Fresh and creamy textured with grapefruit, lime, bitter lemon, stone fruit flavours, fine loose knit chalky, hint of al dente textures, lovely mid palate viscosity and bell-clear acidity. A resonating finish, highlighting pure fruits and persistent mineral length. Drinking well now, but best to keep for a while to allow the elements to fold. (97) ANDREW CAILLARD MW

(2020 REVIEW) This parcel has performed so impressively in 2020, with trademark white-peach aromas and a subtle lemon-cream edge. The oak is so well integrated here. There’s impressive seamlessness on the palate with citrus-nuanced stone fruit carrying so long and fresh. Thrilling chardonnay. Drink or hold. (98) JAMES SUCKLING

  17. Allevare Novello Cabernet Franc 2022
    Allevare Novello Cabernet Franc 2022

A Novello style red, perfect chilled or at room temperature. Wild fermented in stainless steel tank, the fruit was left on skins for 2 weeks with light pump overs morning and evenings. It was then pressed to tank and left on lees for 6 months before bottling on Gunaikurnai Land.

Grown in the Shelmerdine Vineyard, red and brown sandy clay loams of south-eastern Australia, plus yellow-brown clay loams and gritty, gravelly quartzose sands laid down by the Goulburn River. An historic wine growing region, heat is mitigated by the amundant lakes and billabongs associated with the Goulburn Valley region. ALLEVARE
