Apple blossom, pastry dough, fresh lemonade, lemon sherbet and subtle macadamia are sliced up by a slatey mineral cut. Very hightoned and pretty with pops of sweetness adding appeal. Air and temperature unlocks bath salts, savoury lemon thyme, and a whisper of mandarin pith. The palate is quite coiled and tensile, with a tight frame of pithy acid and chalky phenolics constricting around lemon juice, lemon pith, slatey minerals again, crushed green apple. If there's residual sugar here, it's completely guillotined by the acid which keeps excellent line and freshness through a long finish. Tightly wound, vibrant, bright, structured. Very good. The 2022 Thorley Riesling is laden with straw and tatami, lemongrass, wet wool and scratched citrus. In the mouth, the wine is viscose and wide, textural and engaging. Instead of the usual linear fruit profile, this is populated by yellow fruits of some opulence, exotic spices and plenty of interest. Recommended. ERIN LARKIN, The Wine Advocate.

Seashore tones mix with spiced apples and hazelnuts on the nose. A tightly coiled core of fruit - white nectarines and apples - unfurls revealing a nervy pulse and chalky texture. This has great presence and depth, framed in a carriage of spicy oak with flavours of hazelnuts and brine emerging. Its composure is exquisite, and while there's a perceived fragility about the wine its undertow of carry suggests otherwise. Banging value too. No wonder this recently picked up four trophies - including Wine of Show at the Vic Wine Show. GABRIELLE POY

On the palate, intense minerality combined with fine acidity and lees complexity create a mouthfeel that is velvety and creamy yet focused and intense. A lovely mix of nectarines, apple danish and white button mushrooms pique the senses. With air whiffs of crushed rock and smoked meats appear. The core is awash with flavours of stone fruits and pomme fruits, earth and spice – layers build upon each other. This is a sophisticated and stylish chardonnay that doesn’t reveal its hand fully – it plays a cat-and-mouse game. Subtle oak spices remain deferential to the core of finely etched fruit. A fine framing tail of acidity and phenolics signs off. Very stylish indeed. GABRIELLE POY

Complex and highly lifted aromas of citrus blossom, Meyer lemon and white nectarine combine with gun smoke and freshly grilled nuts. The palate is soft and full yet refined and complex, driven by fine acidity that flows into a creamy, velvety texture. The finish is round yet precise leaving a sensation that is long and moreish. Bouzy and Ambonnay are the epicentre of pinot noir in Champagne, and the Clouet family is the priviledged custodian of eight hectares of estate vines in the best middle slopes of both villages.  These are rich and concentrated expressions of pinot noir, wines of deep complexity, multi faceted interest and engaging character, yet with remarkable restraint and sense of control.  Recent tastings confirm my impression that this small and relatively unknown grower ranks high among Champagne's finest practitioners of pinot noir - and expresses one of the best value of all.

A cool growing season, with ample time for flavour development. Whole berry ferment with gentle maceration, this wine is concentrated and complex yet shows the bright acidity and delicacy of high-altitude Pinot Noir. Savoury spice and tart red fruit softened by a subtle 15% new oak component.

Marvellous chardonnay. Flavoursome, flinty, fleshy and complete. Stonefruits and white flowers, cedarwood and meal, a quartz-like aspect and plenty of struck match. But harmonious at every single turn. And then there's the finish, which is seriously well sustained. One sip and I was convinced. The score could well be stingy. Aussie winelovers need little prompting when it comes to elite Chardonnay from the Beechworth region which is home to some of our very best. This wine, mostly from the Mendoza clone, sees whole bunch pressing and a wild yeast ferment in new French oak, which is mostly 500-litre puncheons. A lean, pale yellow hue, this is obviously still very young, indeed almost raw, but it is certainly coming together. We have notes of citrus and cashews, with melon and peach. A minerally backing, juicy acidity and impressive length. This will be better in 12 months and should drink beautifully for the following five to six years, possibly considerably more. The Delamotte NV Brut blends approximately 55% Chardonnay with 35% Pinot Noir and 10% Pinot Meunier. It is clear, round and spicy on the predominantly fruity and vinous nose with its delicate chalk and hazelnut flavors. On the palate this is a lithe, finessed, fresh and elegant Brut with good structure and a pure, salty-mineral and cleansing finish. A complex, reliable Champagne that would show well in all occasions thanks to its freshness and class. Drawing on all three grapes (chardonnay, pinot noir and pinot meunier), this has a complex grilled-nut and autolysis character overlayed across red berries and citrus fruits. Definitely a lot of reserve wine character here. The palate delivers lemons, grapefruit, peaches and mangoes in a refreshingly pure, fleshy style. One of the great signatures of the region, its calligraphy flowing with elegance, panache and balance, the last reflected in the equal proportions of the three great varieties of Champagne. A flamboyant straw gold lustre, and an immediately seductive nose, encyclopaedic in its indulgence. Nougat, praline, white pepper, spice and nectarine were first to the page for this taster, but there is much more behind that, the sugar discrete yet edifying, the long yeast ageing responsible for a happy and altogether luminous marriage of power and finesse. the wine wafts from the glass with an alluring bouquet of green apple, brioche, pastry cream and buttered toast. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, impressively layered and complete, with a crisp but fleshy core of fruit, a youthfully frothy mousse and bright acids, concluding with a delicately chalky finish. This is one of the very finest—as well as among the most consistent—non-vintage brut bottlings from any of the Grandes Marques, and comes very warmly recommended. Equal parts Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Meunier. It pours a bright silver straw hue and is fresh on opening, with a floral perfume of white flowers, fresh pear, and fresh almond. Medium-bodied, it’s attractive and approachable, with juicy peach fruit that fills the palate, although it stays refined, with a pinpoint mousse and a clean finish. It is a lovely entry to the range to enjoy now or over the next 6-8 years, and I love this as an aperitif style. JEB DUNNUCK
