The 2015 Barolo San Giovanni is darker and richer than the straight Barolo, but as is so often the case, the differences between the two wines are more stylistic than truly qualitative. Dark cherry, mocha, spice and balsamic notes are framed by a kiss of new French oak. A good bit of mid-palate density and creaminess gives the San Giovanni much of its immediacy. ANTONIO GALLONI
