Aromas of dog rose, wild herb, camphor and dark spice come together on the stunning 2020 Paolo Scavino Ravera. It's spicy and savory, delivering a core of raspberry compote accented by star anise, mocha and a hint of orange zest. Tightly woven, fine-grained tannins provide seamless support while fresh acidity keeps it balanced. Drink 2027-2032. (97) KERIN O'KEEFE

Vivid red with some garnet. Red cherry, blackberry and tar on the inviting nose. Fresh and lively on entry, then rather full-bodied and monolithic in the mouth, but light on its feet with more fruity oomph than the winery's more floral 2020 Monvigliero.
