  1. Starward Whisky - Two Fold (700ml)
Starward Whisky - Two Fold (700ml)
Our vision has always been to create a whisky that is not only world class in quality and craftsmanship but accessible to all, regardless of how you choose to enjoy it.
Two-Fold is our biggest step in that ambitious direction - a double grain whisky that is entirely matured in our signature Australian red wine barrels. A union of Australia's two most quintessential grains; Wheat and Malted Barley, coming together to create a flavor-forward whisky that is filled with rich complexities driven by the power of two grains. Matured in Melbourne's intensely reactive climate, leading to a beautifully balanced and incredibly versatile sipping whisky. The nose is filled with spiced vanilla and fresh tropical fruit. Whilst the palate is flowing with hints of Fuji apples, roasted pineapple, lightly toasted oak, and a soft tannic finish. STARWARD

  3. Charles Oates Tasmanian Apple Brandy 42.1% 700ml
Charles Oates Tasmanian Apple Brandy 42.1% 700ml

Inspired by the tradition of calvados in North-West France, our Apple Brandy shows complexity and character.

After patient aging in ex-fortified wine barrels, casks are carefully selected and blended to produce an elegant and outstanding spirit that shows layers of baked apple, sweet caramel and fruit cake aromatics. WILLIE SMITH

We were really floored by the quality of this product. The Willie Smith crew did a stellar job and that should really be no surprise considering the quality across the board of their ciders. Its all made from local Tassie apples in Australia’s first alembic Charentais copper still.

  4. Willie Smiths Heritage Blend Cider 750ml
Willie Smiths Heritage Blend Cider 750ml
Situated on 115 acres, Wille Smiths is 30 minutes south of Hobart in the Huon Valley, a once thriving apple-growing region that exported apples all over the globe and earned Tasmania the title of the 'Apple Isle'.

Our farm went organic in 1997, thanks to the innovation of current orchardist, Andrew Smith. It was a bold move, transforming the orchard to organic, and involved a lot of new techniques and training to achieve. With a new focus on organic farming and the use of the apples in our cider, they hope to bring back the glory of the 'Apple Isle' days once more.

The cidery is located at the  orchard, meaning the fruit travels the smallest distance possible from tree to bottle. It's a full circle process which all occurs in one place, right here on the farm.

Be in no doubt, this is one of the countries of not the worlds greatest ciders. Bold statement for sure but we think you will agree once you try it. This used to be called the French Blend but the various type of apples have moved it away from a predominantly French blend so they have changed the name. This is a seasonal release and one we are looking forward too. If you have never tried these we cannot recommend them enough - so bloody delicious!

  5. April Mixed Dozen 2021 - Autumn Drinking: 40 Degrees South
April Mixed Dozen 2021 - Autumn Drinking: 40 Degrees South
There are only a select few, perfect locations, to grow great wine on this big blue orb of ours and those are between 30 and 50 degrees north and south latitudes. Those regions need to provide just the right temperature, humidity, heat and climate to grow high quality grapes. We are absolutely spoilt for choice when it comes to the northern reaches with the whole of Europe at our disposal, but travel further south and things are a little different.

While New Zealand and Tasmania provide us with plenty of choices (and we would be remiss not to include them) the southern reaches sitting on and just below the 40 degrees latitude offer a up a wholy unique drinking experience.

While grapes like riesling, cabernet and pinot noir are familiar to us, a number of the wines in this months pack aren't seen so regularly on your local wines list or on the shelves of your corner wine store. From Malbec's in Argentina to the infamous Pinotage and the more classic varietals like Chenin in South Africa this is an exploration of all that is good in these great southern lands of ours.

Where do we start with such an awesome selection of interesting wine? It's hard to decide we might just do a quick run down by country.

South America is relatively new to the wine scene but has come along in leap and bounds. WE start with a couple of classics with the Finca Los Moras Malbec and the Santa Ana Cabernet. These are text book varietal wines with plenty to love in their up-front fruit and modern styling. For something a little different we through in the Bouchon pais. For those who do not know, Pais is an old variety that is Chile's answer to pinot noir. With a little more bite and a wild flourish this a great introduction to this fascinating wine.

Closer to home in New Zealand we have few classic drops with the Palliser Estate Pencarrow pinot. A wine you would be hard pressed to find with the structure, concentration and complexity at the same price. Off to Hawkes Bay for some stonking Chardonnay from Bilancia fame and some of the world most underrated syrah from stars Te Mata. What a treat!

Just in our backyard, Tassie continues to pump out some of the best wine in the country and while we would never miss out on showcasing another great pinot there is some real winners with pinot gris and riesling on the rise. The Moores Hill gris is a freat example of textural and vibrant gris from the Apple Isle with the Riversdale riesling hot on its tale.

And for something a little different we have got the latest release Willie Smiths Cider. This is an absolute belter, and we couldn't help but included it once we were told it had been released. Perfect timing! We will take that one!

Last, and something we don't see much in Aus is a cracking selection of wines from South Africa. Long-term customers may recognise some of these wines and as far as we are concerned, they are some of the best modern day Cape wines to make it over. The Bare Bones cinsault is a zippy red full of energy while the Winery of Good Hope pinotage is a juicy and fun take on this classic red variety,

And what would a selection of wine from South Africa be without a chenin blanc. The Secateurs is clean and crunchy with a plush fruit profile that is cleaned up by chenin's zippy acidity.
All in al a pretty awesome and exciting collection of stellar wines from the great south!

  6. Spring Bay Tasmanian Gin (700ml)
    Spring Bay Tasmanian Gin (700ml)

The botanicals are steeped for 24 to 48 hours then additional Juniper and Liquorice Root are vapour infused in the neck of the copper pot still to give a traditional Juniper flavour at the front of the palate through to a sweet liquorice finish. This gin is triple distilled giving the spirit an ultra-smooth flavour despite the higher than normal ABV. It contains 11 Botanicals including 3 local botanicals - Native Bush Pepper, Lemon Myrtle, Tasmanian Wattleseed. SPRING BAY DISTILLING

For me this is an altogether gentle and delicate gin not that it doesn't have presence or flavour. More that it relies on its quality through craftmanship and quality ingredients. Juniper driven but highlighted with native bush botanicals that give a unique flavour and aromatic profile. I often find (Australia) native botanicals in gins overpower everything else but these are judiciously used and create a wonderful tasting gin. There is sweet oiliness on the finish that carries everything to gentle, clean and clear finish. A really well made and poised Aussie gin. MYLES,PWS

  7. Havilah Shiraz 2021
    Havilah Shiraz 2021

The Havilah Shiraz is a dream finally realised for Ricky Evans.

He'd had his eye on some Shiraz planted on the western side of the Tamar Valley for quite some time, and a warm vintage meant all of the fruit ripened neatly - making it perfect to go into this cuvee.

Filled with all the hallmarks of cool climate Shiraz like white pepper, blue fruits and a nice crunch of acidity, this is yet another killer wine to add to Ricky's stable.

  8. Arras Brut Elite Cuvee
    Arras Brut Elite Cuvee
57.3/34.9/7.9% pinot noir/chardonnay/meunier. Méthode traditionnelle; 2016 base vintage, first disgorgement, hence '1601'; aged 4 years on lees; 3.5g/L dosage; Cuvée No 1601, disgorged Aug '20. The house blend of the great House of Arras is a vital barometer for Tasmanian sparkling. Ever more honed, chiselled and sophisticated, its dosage drives lower than ever with each passing release, now resolutely extra brut. The deep, characterful, long-aged mood of Arras is pronounced here, brimming with vanilla cream, toast and roast almonds. Crunchy Tasmanian lemon, grapefruit and red apple brings tension to a long finish. The bite of bitter phenolics inherent to the Arras style is pronounced, leaving the finish grainy and firm. 10. Domaine Lalaurie Rivage Blanc IGP Coteaux de Narbonne 2021
Domaine Lalaurie Rivage Blanc IGP Coteaux de Narbonne 2021
Following their father's death in 2020, twin sisters Camille and Audrey are forging ahead as the 10th generation to run this gorgeous family farm near Narbonne in the Languedoc. As an enologist Camille has overseen a significant jump in quality by introducing modern winemaking techniques after working vintages abroad. They are investing in revitalising the old cellar and focused on biodiversity and achieving close to organic farming practices. Her wine style is sparkly, clean and honest, delivering impeccable quality across the range.

A delicate, fresh and mineral wine from twin sisters Camille and Audrey, Rivage Blanc is racy and driven by Sauvignon Blanc, in a restrained European style. Floral citrus mingles with grapefruit juice and a very fine cut of refreshing acidity, a great example of Camille's clever, frank wine making style.

  11. Dr Edge Riesling 2022
    Dr Edge Riesling 2022
Green apple, lime, barley sugar and white flowers, a thick and rich texture, cheese rind and lemon rind, but intense lime acidity pulses through it, and there’s grip and energy to go. Finish is full-flavoured, lime cordial, zest and spice, and very long and sure. Almost blows your hair back, which perhaps won’t be experienced by some, but I’m feeling very Barry Gibb in a wind tunnel at present. You can tell by the way I use my walk, I’m a Dr. Edge man, no time to talk. (95) GARY WALSH, The Wine Front

    Stoney Rise Chardonnay 2022

I always used to pronounce Holyman as Holy Man, when it should really be Holly Man. I still prefer the former.

Melon, citrus, a bit nutty and umami. Some honey gloss but lots of zip and flinty texture. Saline, light, but has a richness despite being kind of bony. Lemon zest maybe, and ginger biscuits. It’s a dynamic and individual wine, and really nice to drink. GARY WALSH, The Wine Front

  13. Bellebonne Vintage Rose 2020
    Bellebonne Vintage Rose 2020
Bellebonne is relatively new in the fine wine scene and the wines are quickly gaining traction, and rightly so.
Wine maker Nat Fryar created Bellebonne on the backs of making quality sparkling wine at Jansz for 20+ years.
The 2020 vintage Rose is made from 100% pinot noir grapes from Tasmania and expresses delicately wound fruit of fresh strawberries, sour cherries and Turkish delight. There are some lovely background autolytic notes for the classical Champagne fans out there but have no fear - everything is thoughtfully and delicately in check.
Perfect for Christmas Day lunch, picnic in the park or a treat on the couch after a long day..

  14. Dalrymple Single Estate Coal River Chardonnay 2022
Dalrymple Single Estate Coal River Chardonnay 2022
The aroma is an alluring combination of mandarins and lemon with white peach, oyster shell, quince and flint. The palate is defined by delicate citrus fruit, complexed with a saline texture from exposure to the southern sea air and a finish that lingers.

The grapes were handpicked and whole bunch pressed with the free run juice and pressings kept separately. After settling, the juice was placed into French oak puncheons and a ceramic egg for fermentation. Towards the end of this process, lees stirring was introduced and continued, bi-weekly for 3 months until most of the malolactic fermentation was completed. The wine was topped as required during the next 8 months prior to blending and bottling.

Hand-picked fruit from the Lower Derwent Valley; up to 25% whole bunches; gentle hand plunging and occasional pumpovers.
