  1. J de Joliette NV
    J de Joliette NV

Regarded as one of the premier producers in Jurançon, Clos Joliette was founded in 1929, when the Migne family cleared forest in a natural southeast-facing amphitheater to plant a hectare of vines.
The result has been an incredible selection of complex and aromatic off-dry wines, reflecting the reputation Antoine Gerbelle bestowed on the domaine as “the Romanee Conti of the South-West France”.

What makes these wines so sought after is the combination of three unique aspects. First, its location. With only 1.85 hectares Clos Joliette sits at 300m altitude, on the slopes of the hill of Beauvallon (Commune of Jurancon). The vines were planted in 1929 by Madame Migné and exposed to the East and South-East in a natural amphitheater, allowing the grapes to capture the gentle morning sun, rather than afternoon heat.

Second, an atypical terroir made of clay-silica, pudding stones, Ponto-Pliocene pebbles and crossed through by a vein of iron.

Third, the wine itself - a single varietal 100% Petit Manseng, treated with minimal intervention throughout vinification, no fining or filtration, and long aging in oak barrels for 4 to 6 years.

  3. Gaia Notios White 2022
    Gaia Notios White 2022
There is no doubt that Gaia has established itself as one of the Greece's greatest wineries. Gaia Wines resulted from a partnership between Agronomist Leon Karatsolas and one of Greece's leading wine figures, Yiannis Paraskevopoulos. Today they are leading the pack in quality. They are a benchmark producer for the region.

Last years version was great and this year it seems to have topped it by a good mile weaving together a fleshy, ripe and mineral laden white that is sure to please. It's a triple threat of moschofilero, roditis and assyrtiko. Each bring their own vibe with the pretty, floral moschofilero adding some top notes and seductive aromatics. The roditis form the core with it steel freshness and tight, compact fruit. The Assyrtiko fleshes this all out with preserved lemon, citrus, white fruits and a zippy freshness and lush fruits. What a combo.

  6. Domaine Adrien Berlioz Savoie ‘Cuvee des Gueux’ Jacquere 2021
Domaine Adrien Berlioz Savoie ‘Cuvee des Gueux’ Jacquere 2021
Located at the foothills of the Bauges massif, and bordering neighbouring Switzerland and Valle d'Aosta in Italy, the organically farmed vineyards of Domaine Adrien Berlioz in the Savoie region are as picturesque as you might imagine.

Berlioz took over the family vineyards in 2006, two hectares located near a small village called Chignin at 390m above sea level. With plenty of hard work alongside the pursuit of purity and a certified biodynamic approach to farming, he has grown the vineyard to 5 hectares, transforming it into one of the region's most prestigious domaines.

Lively and electric on the palate, leading with notes of ripe green apple and pear. It's a rich and intensely textured wine, with charming acidity and length to complete the package. There's qualities here similar to a Loire Chenin Blanc, but the combination of the Jacquare with the magic touch and power from the Altesse is really something unique!

  7. Rebholz Riesling vom Buntsandstein 2021 (sandstone)
Rebholz Riesling vom Buntsandstein 2021 (sandstone)

The 2021 Siebeldingen Vom Buntsandstein Riesling trocken offers a very clear, pure, bright and fresh bouquet with stony and herbal/grassy notes; it's beautifully coolish and highly elegant. Round and elegant on the palate, this is a light to medium-bodied, dense, intense and fruity as well as saline-finishing Riesling from the sandstone terroir of the Ganz Horn. STEPHAN REINHARDT, Wine Advocate

Complex nose of white peach, white currant, herbs and a touch of flint. Sleek, but highly structured with a razor-sharp minerality and lots of energy. Very long, super-clean and bone-dry finish. Use as you would a high-end Chablis. STUART PIGOTT, jamessuckling.com

  8. Rebholz Riesling vom Rotliegenden 2021 (red slate)
Rebholz Riesling vom Rotliegenden 2021 (red slate)
The 2021 Birkweiler Vom Rotliegenden Riesling trocken offers a deep, intense and iron-scented bouquet of ripe and elegant fruit intermingled with purely mineral and herbal notes. In fact, this is a downgraded Kastanienbusch that didn't add a plus to the GG blend. Round and silky on the very elegant and balanced palate, this is a quiet-flowing Riesling with fine and ripe acidity and a long, intense and textured finish with very delicate salinity on the aftertaste. It's a fascinating dry Riesling from Siebeldingen. STEPHAN REINHARDT, Wine Advocate

An extremely elegant dry riesling that reminds me of the top wines from the great 1990 vintage! Very racy, very mineral and very precise. So much red and white berry fruit, Amalfi lemon acidity and an explosion of wet stone character at the super-straight finish. STUART PIGOTT, jamessuckling.com

  9. Rebholz Riesling Kastanienbusch 2021 GG (red slate)
Rebholz Riesling Kastanienbusch 2021 GG (red slate)
The 2021 Kastanienbusch Riesling GG shows pure, fresh and elegant, juicy, ripe and concentrated fruit with herbaceous spicy aromas. Dense, lush and savory on the palate, with fine mineral acidity and highly elegant, juicy-savory fruit, this is a very long, mineral and tensioned Kastanienbusch with great purity, salinity and highly finessed texture. The finish is fresh and lemony, pure and salty, stimulating and vital, demanding and powerful. It's a very expressive Kastanienbusch. STEPHAN REINHARDT, Wine Advocate

This smells like breaking open a beautifully ripe passion fruit! The palate of this great dry riesling has a very sleek silhouette, but an enormous amount of complex minerality (think every shade of rock from red to black) packed into it. Like a tight rosebud that needs time to unfurl its tightly folded beauty. STUART PIGOTT, jamessuckling.com

  10. Rebholz Riesling vom Schiefer 2021 (blue slate)
Rebholz Riesling vom Schiefer 2021 (blue slate)
The 2021 Burrweiler Vom Schiefer Riesling trocken offers a clear, pure and refined but intense, slate-driven nose with iodine notes. Round and fresh on the palate, this is a saline, mouth-filling and very elegant Riesling with juicy fruit, fine tannins, stimulating savory acidity and lingering salinity. STEPHAN REINHARDT, Wine Advocate

Effusive nose with a whole garden of fresh herbs, also some delicate stone fruits. Stunning minerality on the very focused and light-footed palate. The acidity at the properly dry finish may be a bit challenging for some, but we find no hint of unripeness there, rather we find it invigorating and excitingly stony. Rebholz Riesling vom Muschelkalk 2021 (limestone)
The 2021 Siebeldingen Vom Muschelkalk Riesling trocken is pure, fresh and spicy on the intense and pretty complex nose. Lush and salty-savory on the palate, this is a dense, refreshing and mineral, even chalky Riesling from younger vines in the Grosse Lage Im Sonnenschein. The finish is enormously saline but also textured and provided with fine tannins. STEPHAN REINHARDT, Wine Advocate

A remarkably generous, dry riesling for this cool and high-acidity vintage. A whole basket of stone and citrus fruit plus yellow apple with a whiff of smoke. Creamy mid-palate, then a very chalky texture at the long finish. STUART PIGOTT, jamessuckling.com

  12. Spring by Oscar Hermann Tension Sparkling 2023
Spring by Oscar Hermann Tension Sparkling 2023
New look for Oscar Hermann, aka Combes wines. This comes from a vineyard in St Andrews managed by Oscar et al, and farmed organically (not certified).

Tension seems apt! Tightly wound, laser-like, precise and very refreshing. A steel rod of acidity in tart citrus fruits, compact bubbles, saline notes, some faint cornflake character. A little mute in perfume but this is a ripper of a summer fizz. MIKE BENNIE, The Wine Front

  13. Impecavel Encruzado Dão Branco 2022
    Impecavel Encruzado Dão Branco 2022
100% made from the queen white grape variety of the region, Encruzado, this emblematic Portuguese grape variety was born in the Dão region. When well crafted in the vineyard and winery, it presents delicate aromas such as notes of yellowfleshed fruit, light citrus notes, a little resin, with a great balance, little extraction, moderate alcohol content, no wood, very fresh, easy to drink and Above all, very gastronomic. The vineyards are between 30 and 50 years old and are mainly located in the sub-region of the mountain of Terras de Senhorim, the most balanced sub-region for whites, naturally producing elegant and fresh wines.

  14. Nossa Calcário Bical 2022
    Nossa Calcário Bical 2022
Nossa Calcário ('our limestone') is a biodynamic 100% Bical from the 'grand cru' vineyard on the much-vaunted chalky clay soils around the village of Ois do Bairro, where Pato and husband William Wouters live and age wine in cellars under their home. Lissom, this would pair beautifully with sea bass, the finest 'catch of the day' from the ocean, just 15km away. Sarah Ahmed: Oyster shell aromas and flavours, a little creamy with fresh acidity, herbal al-dente apricot and pingy chalk. Nelson Guerreiro: Complex nose, notes of fermented tea, jasmine and pear. Nicely textured with good acidity well integrated. Joanna Locke MW: A touch of bruised apple, a little struck match reduction, yet taut and crisp, sappy acidity. Drinking Window: 2024 - 2031 DECANTER

  15. Domaine de Chatillon Jacquere 2020
    Domaine de Chatillon Jacquere 2020
We were a bit chuffed to get this wine when trying it recently particularly given that you don't see a lot of jacquere wines out of Savoie at the price. The chateau is based in the Chatillon castle, a Roman watch tower built 70AD to signal the regiments along the Rhone River. It's pretty striking stuff in the hills there and the high-altitude vineyards lend a lovely racy edge to the wines.

Light bodied and crisp with a clean, steely minerality and light floral blossom accents on top of waxy citrus and green apple fruit. On the palate it races through cutting with mandarin and lemon peel apple/pear flavours and plenty of energetic acidity that drives a clean, mineral finish spiked with qartz and white pepper. Great stuff!
