  1. Carbonnieux Blanc 2017
    Carbonnieux Blanc 2017

The 2017 Carbonnieux Blanc is absolutely lovely. Lemon confit, white flowers and green orchard fruit open up first, followed by a range of bright citrus and floral notes that add brilliance to a very pretty upper register. ANTONIO GALLONI

…This is one of the most sophisticated white Carbonnieux that I have encountered at this stage with wonderful mineralité and veins of ginger furnishing the finish that convey brio and confidence. This should evolve into an outstanding Pessac-Léognan. NEAL MARTIN, vinous.com

Right off the bat this has richness and concentration, with peachy creaminess through the mid-palate but without sacrificing tension and lift. It's a fine example of what 2017 can deliver in the best whites, and should age very well. JANE ANSON, decanter.com

Notes of lemon curd, citrus rind and hints of crushed rock define the 2017 Château Carbonnieux, which is medium-bodied, pure, and elegant on the palate. It's another great white from the Pessac-Léognan region in 2017. JEB DUNNUCK

  2. Chateau d'Yquem 2010 375ml
    Chateau d'Yquem 2010 375ml
Picked predominantly over 10 days from October 14, the 2010 d'Yquem has 141gms/L residual sugar and pH 3.80. It is a slow-burner, the nose understated at first but unfurling with each passing moment with subtle scents of freshly sliced apricots, Clementine, clear honey and white flowers. There is an underlying minerality that really defines this bouquet. The palate is similar to the nose, revealing hidden facets with almost each swirl of the glass - orange blossom, limestone, white peach and honeysuckle. This is such a precise d'Yquem; it is after you have swallowed the wine that one comprehends just how brilliant it is. (98+) WINE ADVOCATE

    Lafaurie Peyraguey 2019

    Sauternes, Barsac

Purchase En Primeur. Arrival due September 2022.

Bright and effusive, with terrific persistence, the 2019 Lafaurie-Peyraguey is so alluring. Tangerine peel, passionfruit, mint, pineapple and a kiss of new French oak are all beautifully delineated. Even with all of its intensity, the 2019 remains gracious and light on its feet. Superb. Tasted two times. Antonio Galloni 96

  5. Doisy Daene 2009
    Doisy Daene 2009

Denis Dubourdieu has provided one of the genuine stars of the vintage with the Chateau Doisy-Daene, two, if you count his Extravagance. This has a very fragrant nose with apple blossom, lime leaf and a touch of honey. Very fresh and lifted...spring-like. The palate is very well balanced, not a powerful Sauternes but ethereally poised and focused, skipping blithely to an animated pear, honeysuckle and apricot finish. Very pretty, very complete and very outstanding. (98) NEAL MARTIN

The last time I tasted the 2009 Doisy-Daëne, I felt it was in a dumb phase. This bottle suggests that it is no longer in that phase! It has a lovely bouquet with honey, white peach, nougat and light marzipan scents, growing in intensity with just a touch of lavender. Wonderful definition. The palate is very well defined with superb concentration, a surfeit of botrytis, tangy marmalade and quince notes with a touch of ginger enlivening the finish. What an outstanding Doisy-Daëne! 6. Chateau Peybonhomme Les Tours Côtes de Blaye Le Blanc 2021
Chateau Peybonhomme Les Tours Côtes de Blaye Le Blanc 2021

Biodynamic. This delicious and racy white is a blend of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc drawn from a two-hectare, biodynamic vineyard close to the banks of the Gironde River. Guillaume Hubert's grounded, vineyard-focused approach results in a vibrant, unworked and racy white whose crunchy freshness and juicy texture reflects its limestone soils more transparently than anything we have come to expect of white Bordeaux.

The grapes are handpicked, manually sorted and undergo a 24-hour carbonic period before being pressed into a mixture of concrete vats and oak barrels. Here there the wines complete their fermentation, carried out by indigenous yeasts only. In other words, it's a mould-breaking white Bordeaux, and just to be sure no one misses the point, the family bottle it in a Burgundy-shaped vessel. Vibrating with the year’s stony freshness, it's a crunchy, racy white with mouth-watering lemon pith, fresh herbs and some white floral notes, closing with silky grace and gentle phenolic bite. A lovely release of this vibrant, well-priced white.

  7. Coutet La Chartreuse de Coutet 2015 375 mL
Coutet La Chartreuse de Coutet 2015 375 mL

Quite a smokey nose but a lot of ripe mango flavors, too. This balances a rich texture and bright acidity very nicely. The finish is long for a second wine. JAMES SUCKLING.

Plenty of botrytis adding marmalade and exotic fruits to the engaging mix of citrus oil, stone fruits and fresh flowers. I feel like there is a little more Sauv Blanc here, than may be typical, due to this exotic, tropical fruit and ginger flower component, I couldn't find the cepage though, so just a guess. It's not overly sweet, but there is enough thickness and viscosity to leave no doubt as to what you are drinking. The acidity plays its all important role in keeping things upbeat, fresh and clean. The finish is impressively long and carried by the sugar while being enlivened by the acid. Excellent and supper value. ROSCOE
