  1. Tenuta Aglaea Etna Rosso Thalia 2019
Tenuta Aglaea Etna Rosso Thalia 2019
Comune di Castiglione di Sicilia e Randazzo - 750 m. (2250 feet) above sea level

From the zone of Randazzo, this is a step up in class. Light on its feet, Thalia has an undercurrent of power that builds in the glass. A mesmerising mix of bramble, sour cherries, smoked meats and wild herbs marries together. This 2018 shows darker depths of black fruits with some minerally ferrous tones. This has incredible staying power and class, all delivered in a lithely medium body.

  2. Eduardo Torres Acosta Pierrera Nerello Mascalese 2020
Eduardo Torres Acosta Pierrera Nerello Mascalese 2020
This bottling is 90% Nerello Mascalese and a 10% mix of other local varieties. The Pirrera site sits at 850 meters on the north side of Mt. Etna. The name is derived from the particularly rocky nature of the vineyard as well as the volcanic stones quarried from a 1614 lava flow. The vineyard had been abandoned decades before Eduardo took on its rehabilitation.

Vine age averages 50 years in age and is later picked then several other wines due to the elevated site. Bunches are generally destemmed but with some whole left in the ferments using indigenous yeasts in cement tanks without temperature control or sulfur. Maceration lasts about 15 days. The wine is aged for 16 months in concrete tanks and then bottled without fining or filtering and with a very small amount of sulfur.

  3. Terre Nere Etna Rosato 2022
    Terre Nere Etna Rosato 2022
The 2022 Rosato Etna is understated and delicate, with dried strawberry and dusty florals forming its bouquet. This shows a pretty inner sweetness up front that gives way to crisp orchard fruits and spice. It finishes a bit dry, yet clean, with a saline-tinge that slowly tapers off. ERIC GUIDO, vinous.com

A pillowy core of rosehip, spiced cherries and spun sugar leads into a tangy line of acidity with a whisp of sea spray. Finely boned with excellent staying power, it's beautifully textured with a chalky presence. Pockets of detail emerge if you go looking, but the real beauty of this rosato is its poker face delivery which rolls out a thrilling mix of red fruits and minerals at just the right time, keeping you very keen and intent on your next sip. Danger danger, this has a high evaporation point. GABRIELLE POY

  4. Tornatore Etna Rosso 2020
    Tornatore Etna Rosso 2020
The 2020 Etna Rosso is remarkably pretty, leading off with dusty roses and dried strawberries complicated by suggestions of violet and lavender. This flows effortlessly across the palate with floral-laced red fruits enhanced by sour citrus and spice. The 2020 lingers incredibly long yet maintains a lovely inner freshness. The 2020 is exceptionally pure and impossible to resist. ERIC GUIDO, Vinous

  5. Passopisciaro Passorosso Etna Rosso 2016
    Passopisciaro Passorosso Etna Rosso 2016

Raspberry, cherry, light spice and smokiness, almond, floral prettiniess this vintage too. Bright red fruits, firm, brick dust tannin, very ‘mineral’ and stony, slip of orange peel and dried herb on the finish. It’s a complete iteration of Passorosso with weight of fruit, freshness and perfume all in the mix. Splendid (95) GARY WALSH, The Wine Front

Woodland berry, smoke, wild rose and Mediterranean scrub lead the way on this vibrant red. Racy and succulent, the savory, focused palate delivers juicy strawberry, red cherry, star anise and chopped herb alongside polished tannins and bright acidity. A saline note gives it a tangy finish KERIN O’KEEFFE, Wine Enthusiast
