Domaine de Chatillon Jacquere 2020We were a bit chuffed to get this wine when trying it recently particularly given that you don't see a lot of jacquere wines out of Savoie at the price. The chateau is based in the Chatillon castle, a Roman watch tower built 70AD to signal the regiments along the Rhone River. It's pretty striking stuff in the hills there and the high-altitude vineyards lend a lovely racy edge to the wines.
Light bodied and crisp with a clean, steely minerality and light floral blossom accents on top of waxy citrus and green apple fruit. On the palate it races through cutting with mandarin and lemon peel apple/pear flavours and plenty of energetic acidity that drives a clean, mineral finish spiked with qartz and white pepper. Great stuff!

Lino Ramble Dot to Dot Arinto 2023SPECIAL VALUE
A Portuguese transplant, arinto is looking like it will settle into McLaren Vale with some ease. This, a case in point. Free run, a little of the light pressings, and wild fermented in steel. Pear and dried apple lashed with brine, savoury-spiked with parsley seed and fennel frond, a water-splashed-concrete mineral note accenting. Santadi Vermentino Villa Solais 2023Cantina Santadi, from Sardinia’s southwestern coastal region known as Sulcis, was founded in 1960 as a cooperative of local growers. Under the guidance of Antonello Pilloni, Santadi has become one of Sardinia’s, and Italy’s, finest wineries, with more than 200 growers farming 600 hectares.
The Sulcis peninsula is, geographically, Sardinia’s most ancient area, rich in archaeological sites, and offers an astonishing palette of variations and contrasts, with coastal sand dunes, gentle hills and inlets, narrow strips of flatland and inland mountains, rugged cliffs overhanging the seas interspersed with silky-smooth white beaches, pine trees, junipers and vineyards. In these sandy soils, pre-phylloxera vines continue to survive and thrive.
Made with 10% Nuragus, another local variety, this spends a few months maturation on lees, in stainless steel, to give the wine an extra dimension of flavour and texture. Citrus notes and hints of tropical fruit, the palate is minerally and refreshing.

Little Frances Eleventh House White Vermentino 2022Little Frances was established in 2012 by Aussie ex-pat Erin Frances Pooley, who set out to make the wines she loves to drink from Californian grapes. Enamoured with the nuance and intrigue of aged white wine (and missing Hunter Valley Semillon from home), Erin started Little Frances in 2012 with just 200 cases of Semillon from a high altitude vineyard in Northern California, farmed by the 3rd generation growers.
We knew of Erin with her work with one of our producers, Hobo Wine Co. Owner Kenny is a friend and mentor and we have been super excited to try her wines and needless to say we were not disappointed.
This blend is vermentino dominant with some aromatic components and textural support from pinot Gris & friulano all from the Apline Valleys, a region which Erin loves for the diversity of varietal selection and what that brings to the table. The trio get fermented in barrels and aged on their lees for a while.

mbination of zingy freshness, weight and texture. Erin has captured the pristine fruits in peek ripeness then judiciously and cleverly add nuance as well as light and shade to the final wines through throughtful winemaking.

The nose is quite yeasty, courtesy of its extreme youth, presumably. The palate though is right on track, with grapefruit and citrus notes woven through with spice, stones, quartz and more of the like. It has both texture and cut, the latter aided by brine-like notes. I’d want the nose on this to settle down before hooking in, but the intensity and character of the palate is excellent. Cascina Feipu dei Massaretti Pigato 2022Located in the Ligurian Riviera at Albenga between the hills and the Mediterranean sea, Cascina Feipu was founded in 1960’s when Agostino Parodi began converting his father’s (Filippo – Feipu in the local dialect) orchards to grape growing.
Son-in-law Mirco Mastroianni joined the cantina in 1997 and under his direction, the cellars were rebuilt and production increased. Mirco is proud to be in an area where wineries are still family-run with great respect for traditional vines and wines.
Pigato might be genetically the same as Vermentino but don't say that around here to loud! Although both vines look the same and share similar herbal and salty notes, the pigato has a beautiful floral lilt and airy nose that is so inviting. An amalgam of green tree fruits, stone fruit and a touch of yellow plum zip along an electric palate. Chateau Montravel Rouge (Merlot) 2017This is 100% merlot from a 1.5 hectare vineyard located in Montravel, a sub-region of Bergerac.
The grapes are hand harvested in small lug boxes, in the cellar the bunches are destemmed and the fruits selected one by one by hand. The must is then macerated in micro oxygenated tanks, pump over every six hours, alcoholic and malolactic fermentations done in temperature controlled tanks. Aged for fourteen months on fine lees in 1/3 new and 2/3 one year old oak barrels.This is terrific Merlot - there is even greater vibrancy and verve to the 2017 then the 2016. the fruit is pure and ripe with fresh picked plum and red cherry fruit. Some classy oak wraps gently around some pretty and lifted violet notes. and red fruits. This has plenty of fleshy fruit but in a compact and vibrant frame. There aint much merlo like this in Aus. Paolo Vidopivec Vitovska Classica 2017Paolo Vodopivec works only with the Vitovska grape, which is native to the area bordering Slovenia and just north of Trieste. He likes to use ancient winemaking techniques, including amphorae and works with bio-dynamically grown grapes.
This is from a 260m vineyards with the crushed and de-stemmed grapes spending 6 months in contact with the wine in Georgian anfora. Its then matured in large Slovenian oak case for approx. 24 months before bottling without any fining or filtration.

Vodopivec Vitovska Classika 2019Paolo Vodopivec, his winery and six hectares of densely planted Vitovska are located in Carso, a plateau of shear limestone tucked between the border of Slovenia and the Adriatic Sea. Vodopivec was inspired by Josko Gravner. Like him, Vodopivec ages most of his wines in subterranean Georgian Amphora, followed by refinement in large neutral oak and a long stay in bottle before release. The results must be tasted to be believed. These are some of the top white wines being made in the world today, like cool-mountain air and liquid stone encapsulated in a bottle, yet with rich textural complexities that boggle the mind.
Crushed rocks and dried flowers give way to peach skins and chamomile as the 2019 Vitovska blossoms in the glass. This is pure and lifted in style, graceful and finessed, quickly gaining a salty tension as young pit fruits and lemon nuances mingle. A salty flourish and flinty sensation come forward through the finale, adding a savory flair as the 2019 finishes with lasting concentration. Really delivers as you might expect from this excellent concentrated and powerfully frame vintage in Margaret River. It’s dominant cabernet with smaller portions of merlot, cabernet franc and malbec. Typical of this wine since switching to biodynamics, it is bright and brilliant with a nervy tense energy to drive the palate. The succulent fruit is harness by fine chalky tannins and neatly played oak of which 55% was new. A wine of extraordinary elegance and poise with a few of many decades. (98) RAY JORDAN
Needless to say, Margaret River enjoyed another superb vintage with the 2022 season. Slightly cooler, Cullen report that it was a vintage of “immense perfume and texture”. The wine is a wonderfully vibrant purple in colour. The nose gives up plums, cassis, spices including nutmeg, chocolate, mocha, bay leaves, cigar box notes – think a freshly opened box of Cohiba Siglo VI – and near perfect oak integration. This is finely balanced and exhibiting immense length on a palate that sees the emergence of aniseed, mulberries and coffee beans. An alluringly supple texture with the silkiest of tannins, though plenty of them – there really is some grip here. This will easily sail through fifteen to twenty years in a good cellar. It’s a wine that can come from nowhere else, so strong is its sense of place. Expect to swoon over aromas of roses, violets and mulberries doused in baking spices, a ferruginous quality as much as detailed if persuasive tannins. It’s complex, complete and structured. Petrolo Galatrona 2021The 2021 Galatrona is a fine follow-up to the 2020. In most vintages, Galatrona is very showy right out of the gate. That is not at all the case with the 2021, a wine that is going to need a number of years to be at its finest. Black cherry, plum, mocha, leather, licorice and incense infuse the 2021 with tremendous complexity. More than anything else, I admire a feeling of vertical, explosive energy that catapults the 2021 into the stratosphere. This is a tremendous wine by any measure. (98) ANTONIO GALLONI
The 2021 Val d'Arno di Sopra Galatrona shows extremely focused aromas, but very generous ones all the while, with soft mint, cherry and stracciatella over a full-bodied texture with soft layers of spice and cedarwood. Vivid purple in the glass, gorgeous black cherry and blackcurrant aromas with touches of florality - this 100% Merlot smells wonderfully scented and inviting. Smooth, ample, really quite seductive on the palate, sensual almost in the silky but gripping tannins, beautifully ripe blackcurrant and cherry fruit and crunchy, crisp acidity that is not too sharp or too obvious but lifts the palate and gives a thrill and wonderful freshness to the overall expression. Beautifully presented, harmonious, balanced and totally enjoyable from the first to last sip. A gorgeous wine, intense yet energetic, full of flavour and textural nuance. Clos Joliette J de Joliette NVRegarded as one of the premier producers in Jurançon, Clos Joliette was founded in 1929, when the Migne family cleared forest in a natural southeast-facing amphitheater to plant a hectare of vines.
The result has been an incredible selection of complex and aromatic off-dry wines, reflecting the reputation Antoine Gerbelle bestowed on the domaine as “the Romanee Conti of the South-West France”.What makes these wines so sought after is the combination of three unique aspects. First, its location. With only 1.85 hectares Clos Joliette sits at 300m altitude, on the slopes of the hill of Beauvallon (Commune of Jurancon).
