Domaine de Chatillon Jacquere 2020We were a bit chuffed to get this wine when trying it recently particularly given that you don't see a lot of jacquere wines out of Savoie at the price. The chateau is based in the Chatillon castle, a Roman watch tower built 70AD to signal the regiments along the Rhone River. It's pretty striking stuff in the hills there and the high-altitude vineyards lend a lovely racy edge to the wines.
Light bodied and crisp with a clean, steely minerality and light floral blossom accents on top of waxy citrus and green apple fruit. On the palate it races through cutting with mandarin and lemon peel apple/pear flavours and plenty of energetic acidity that drives a clean, mineral finish spiked with qartz and white pepper. Great stuff!

A Portuguese transplant, arinto is looking like it will settle into McLaren Vale with some ease. This, a case in point. Free run, a little of the light pressings, and wild fermented in steel. Pear and dried apple lashed with brine, savoury-spiked with parsley seed and fennel frond, a water-splashed-concrete mineral note accenting. Dry or Trocken style Rieslings from the Mosel don't get as much attention as the sweeter versions do and that is a shame. If this wine is anything to go by, I hope they are making bucket-loads more because this really floats my boat. It's all about fresh diced pear, green apple, a touch of peach and ripe citrus throughout. The palate sings with pure fruits, lemon drop and crushed white rock. Its finely shaped, zipping along buoyed by crystalline acidity that pierces the gently sweet fruits. It feels so full of life, bouncy and fresh. Love the purity of it all finishing emphatically dry but with plenty to keep you going back for more. I love the sweet stuff too, don't get me wrong, but this I could drink all day long.
