Wafts of raspberries, black plums and sweet spices lure you in. The core is a vibrant and buoyant mass of black and red berries, wrapped in an elegant framework. Delas Cote du Rhone 2022 375mlA serious Cotes-du-Rhone. Full forest berry fruit with delicate spice, bitter chocolate and licorice notes. Impressive depth and some real structure on the full-bodied palate. I love the way the generous, rather fine tannins carry the long, spicy and fresh finish. A cuvee based on 60% grenache, mostly from the Vaucuse region, with about 30% syrah from the Gard and small amounts of mourvedre and other traditional grape varieties. Paisley Wines Boombox Shiraz 2021If you’re old enough, you’d remember making mix tapes to give to friends or slip into the cassette player in your car, or whatever. My tape of choice, if I was feeling flush was a TDK SA-X (chrome), or even an MA-X (metal setting), and if poor, maybe a TDK AD or a lowly D. All very nice. But thank heavens for Spotify.
A big juicy dark hit of flavour here, along with raspberry juice, mint, a bit of earthy coal-like stuff, some chewy chalk-like grip, and a warm and generous finish of good length. Delas Cote du Rhone Saint Esprit 2021One of our favourite rhone reds year-in and year-out. There may be nothing quite as satisfying as a good value Rhone red and this one always delivers. Delas Freres is based in the beautiful northern Rhone with a large holding of their own vineyards supplemented by long-term relationships with quality growers all over the rhone. How they manage to put so much goodness into a bottle at this price is an astonishing feat to say the least.
While this indulgent red reflects the north’s regional dominance of Shiraz over Grenache, it reflects the darker fruits and a spicy earthiness often found in the southern Rhone, where this wine hails from. Silky rather than heavy, it still feels concentrated with bright, bubbly raspberry fruits complimented by a little dollop of wild, blackberry fruit. A waft of violets and pastille fruit just add to its appeal.

Forest Hill Highbury Fields Chardonnay 2023Tasty stuff, easy drinking, ticks boxes for chardonnay 101. Nice whiffs of peach and nectarine, some ginger, a touch of nougat and faint green almond. The palate quite citrusy and green-apple driven, a little juicy, a lick of that nougat from the bouquet here, too, with a tangy, pineapple-y finish. Fun stuff, done well, good times. First Drop Mothers Milk Shiraz 20212021 was a fine vintage in the Barossa. There is no doubt that this wine will improve but damn it's delicious now. Deep plum and cherry fruits, plenty of spicy depth with hints of licorice, dark chocolate and earth. This is really good Barossa shiraz. It has all that Barossa charm with satsuma plumb, sweet blackberry conserve and hints of maraschino cherry too, while staying vibrant and lifted. Plenty of depth and concentration on the pallet and it doesn't shy away from its origins but it does it deftly by remaining light on its feet, cut with fine tannin and that fans out gently into subtle, chocalaty, framing oak. Rive Droite Rive Gauche Cotes du Rhone 2020Rive Droite Rive Gauche simply means right bank, left bank and the name derives from fruit for the wine being sourced from both sides of the river - the grenache coming mainly from the left (gauche) and the Syrah from the village of Daumazan (on the rive droite), near Tavel. It is also a French film starring the rotund wine-nut actor Gerard Depardieu - fun fact!This is a lovely fresh and crunchy styled Rhone from our friends at Rive Droite. There is touch of thyme and bay over red spiced fruits, layered with a little bit of red liquorice. This is a medium bodied rendition with a pure core of raspberry, wild strawberry and splash of black berry fruit in the mix. Its lithe with a lovely fresh cut to the sweet fruits that makes this look wonderfully elegant and damn easy to like.

Tomfoolery Young Blood Shiraz 2023Inspired by the new wave ‘Vino Joven’ wines of the old world, Young Blood Shiraz is released as a cheeky youngster with just a brief barrel maturation to showcase structure and varietal character, while retaining freshness and finesse. The fruit is open fermented utilising native yeasts, with 30% whole bunch in the mix. After 7 days maceration post-ferment, the wine is gently basket pressed and racked to stainless vats (50%) and old French oak hogsheads (50%) for 6 months maturation. Young Blood Shiraz is pure, uncomplicated enjoyment.
Deep ruby colour with the vibrant pink rim of a fresh young wine. Spicy bramble and black cherry nose with fresh raspberry top notes. One Eighty Wines Adelaide Hills Chardonnay 2023So, Charles one of the guns behind One Eighty Wines started working for Prince Wine Store the middle part of 2024 and quickly became an invaluable team member. Imagine our surprise when he bought in a selection of wines made from his home turf in the beautiful surrounds of Adelaide.
These are deftly crafted wines that speak gently of place with an easy going attitude that belies their subtle complexity. They are crafted beautifully allowing wine making elements to blend seamlessly with pure fruits and wonderful balance. These really over-deliver in every way.
The 2023 Chardonnay, sourced from the Adelaide Hills region, is aged in 50% new oak for 9 months, then bottle aged for a similar length, this wine boasts bold butterscotch flavours, with notes of green apple to give the wine great balance. It's a lovely combo of old-school richness and modern freshness. That's not easy to pull off but they have done it here without losing any of the positives either style. Nick Spencer Gundagai Light Dry Red Blend 2021No, this is not just another "Light Dry Red" playing to the recent fads but a serious nod to the 'Burgundies' of the 50's 60's and 70's which Nick Spencer is paying homage to. These were classic light-bodied Shiraz and Shiraz/ Pinot blends that emerged from the Hunter and are highly sort after now. They are back in fashion and tasting this it's not hard to understand why.
The style can be a little hit or miss and getting that combo of pinot and shiraz just right is critical, which Nick has done a brilliant job of here. A touch of sour cherry, cranberry and strawberries that plays off broodier black currant and blackberry fruit swirling around in the background. It's served on a palate that is crunchy and vibrant with lovely fine structure and soft melting tannins. Great poise between the fruit and other elements and while this is wonderfully easy to enjoy there is a plenty going on here that belies the seriousness of the wine.
While its ready to go now and easy to love if you put a couple of bottles away for just a couple of years or so I think you would be a very happy camper!

Tasting with Bruce is a pretty remarkable experience. The guy knows his business and he knows he is getting things done, better than most. He is a crazy character though. Hoddles Creek Estate Chardonnay 2024Juicy white fruit, grapefruit, aniseed, a little struck match, almond paste, cinnamon and clove spice. It’s packed with flavour, white nectarine and nutty spicy characters, a flinty grip to texture, quite some intensity and power here, and in some respects it seems more Beechworth than Yarra, or so I think. Pear and citrus, lime rind, with excellent length of flavour. It’s elemental as at now, and a little raw, though I reckon it will deliver with a couple of years in bottle. It’s a cracking release.
