Little Goat Creek is a real place in the heart of Marlborough’s Wairau Valley grape growing region. The creek flows from the Richmond Ranges of Marlborough into the Wairau River and this water in turn feeds the fertile land that produces Marlborough’s famous grapes.

These days, it’s getting quite hard for me to read white font on peach coloured background. I don’t wear glasses mind you, so that may be the problem.

Tangy, dry sort of style, into tangerine, grapefruit, white cherry and maybe some aniseed floating about. A little spice too. It has crunch, and a gently savoury finish of solid length. Goes all right. GARY WALSH, The Wine Front

Fontaleoni is a family estate run by brother and sister team, Matteo and Simona Troiani, with a little help from consultant Paolo Caciorgna. They've succeeded in producing a range that is emblematic of the best of what the region has to offer and packaged it up with some of the besta value coming out of the region.

Unbelievable value again this year. A bit of white pepper and sour cherry fruit that opens into a slight darker fruit profile in the glass. Same goes on the palate with a little more dark plumb and morello cherry here than in other years. Plushly fruited but all held together with nice savoury tannins and a splash of leathery spice.

Always a very nice wine, and great value too.

Cherry, almond, aniseed, a smattering of dried herbs, maybe lavender. It’s medium-bodied, kind of juicy, kind of savoury, there’s some strawberry in with cherry, some grainy grip to tannin, slightly ferrous, gently bitter with amaro, and the finish is fresh and pretty long. It’s maybe a little more crunchy and herbal than some vintages, and yet, it still lays on the charm. Nice. I do like a wine that doesn’t try too hard to be anything other than a great drink. The 'MVSA' is made from the tradition Cava varieties Macabeo, Xarello and Parellada at the respective ratio's of 35:30:35%, the wine has seen 24 months of lees ageing and bears 9.5 g/l of residual sugar, but has the acidity to clean up the tail; it is a stylish and satisfying wine of great value. It is pale in colour with plenty of bubbles showing aromas of apples and pears, toasty bread and white flowers balancing the right amount of bubbles and acid. There is pure apple on the palate with minerals and lemon sherbet on the finish; it is a very cooling and refreshing summer drink. PWS

There are horses for courses and wines for times, and this slippery, supple and savoury sangiovese from Victoria's King Valley is as important for mid-week pizza as the extra anchovies. Dried cherries, rubbed herbs and a faintly briny green olive tang ride on a wash of the distinctive aidity , divinly ordaining it to exorcise the devil that is melted cheese. The 2021 Chianti Classico is fabulous. Bright and punchy, with terrific resonance, this wine shows just how compelling the vintage is. Readers will find a Chianti Classico of dynamic energy and volume. Dark red cherry, purplish fruit, lavender, rose petal, spice and a gentle kiss of French oak build into the sumptuous, vibrant finish. Superb. A saturated purple/magenta hue, the 2021 Chianti Classico is lush and fresh with aromas of black raspberry, black cherry, violet, and fresh leather. From the fanatical attention to his biodynamic principals (which pre-date most in the area) to his commitment to all things sustainable - a solar farm here, a passive house there. He doesn't offer any of this information with bombastic bluster, he and his partner Valeria Vigano, mention them in passing with understatement and humility. All this is starting to get me itchy to taste the wines because, there's lots of sustainably run estates in the world these days who make mediocre juice, so I'm hoping Le Cinciole the excitement from the vineyard translates to the wines. They certainly do, they are brilliant!!

Sangiovese (70%), Merlot and Syrah. Ripe, crunchy fruit, red currants a touch of black cherry, red plums and a little white pepper spice sprinkled throughout. Lush fruits lead you in with their sweet embrace while the whole thing stays super fresh. Soft, supple tannins add real interest and give it a lovely backbone. At once completely smashable and serious enough to keep die hard Tuscan red fans very happy.

This must be one of Australia’s top sauvignon blanc wines. And the value is pretty epic.

It’s got exceptional energy and persistence, a major feature is the tension in the wine, the torque of powdery pucker and the core of briny minerality. Around this, preserved lemon, a faint ginger lift, almond, attractive parmesan cheese characters, salt bush and gentle white pepper.
