The 2021 Pinot Noir definitely reflects vintage. Its good colour and abundance of gravelly tannins display the smaller berried, smaller vintage. Its bright fruit, intense concentration and plentiful acidity accompany primary red fruit flavour, with an impressive show of ample black tea leaf-like tannins. The 2021 Pinot Noir is vibrant on the nose and totally precise and focused. The acid spools right from the front of the palate and has a mobile, agile way about it. The season may have had it's challenges, but the wine is effortless, natural and shapely. It's great. The 40% whole bunch here sits well within the red fruit and creates a capacious mid-palate without an impact of stalky flavour. Superb. A real pleasure to drink. ERIN LARKIN, Wine Advocate

Discreet but not invisible wood frames ripe but reasonably fresh aromas of various dark berries, pretty floral nuances and Savigny style earth. The succulent, palate coating and energetic middle weight flavors conclude in a dusty, youthfully austere and nicely persistent finale. BURGHOUND

Love this wine. Has the early supple appeal of Savigny but it's not simple. Red fruits, brown spice and lingering florals plus a dusting of background wood characterise the nose. The palate is immediately red fruited and eveloping with a supple texture that again has some drying limestone dusty quality. A very Nuits like nose offers up notes of forest floor, the savage, purple fruit and an herbal tea top note. There is excellent intensity and precision to the solidly voluminous medium bodied flavors that conclude in a robust, rustic and powerful finish. This too could use more depth, but it has the stuffing to develop it. BURGHOUND

A fresh and airy nose is comprised by notes of red and dark berries along with plenty of newly turned earth character. The caressing, delicious and vibrant flavors possess very good volume before terminating in a mildly austere and sneaky long finish. This too possesses fine development potential and overall, it is a Volnay villages to consider.  BURGHOUND

Lovely aromas of raspberry and dark cherry fruit laid over a faintly stony backbeat and gorgeous blue florals of violets. The palate is medium to full with demure but insistent attack of sweet cherry and spice overtones. Love the delineated flavours as it slides across the palate. Intensity of flavour without heft. Aromas of cherries, sweet berries and plums introduce Bouley's 2022 Bourgogne Côte d'Or Rouge, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy palate with a sweet core of fruit, powdery tannins and an expansive finish. From the part of this climat classified in premier cru, where the vines are also older and the soils shallower, Rapet's 2022 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Fourneaux exhibits aromas of dark berries, cherries, orange zest and petals, followed by a medium to full-bodied, velvety palate that's suave and lively. The same name but not the same soil, very stony here. A fine fresh mid purple. Altogether finer than the village wine with a racy quality through the middle of the raspberry fruit, the limestone seems much closer here. Medium length in the classy finish. JASPER MORRIS MW

The 2021 Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills has a medium ruby color and pretty scents of cinnamon stick, aniseed, iron, underbrush and charcuterie with a core of red cherries and cranberries. Medium-bodied yet very concentrated, it has a powdery frame, sparks of refreshing acidity and a very long, graphite-driven finish. Precise and detailed, it deserves to spend another 2-3 years in bottle. (96) ERIN BROOKS, Wine Advocate

The 2022 Pinot Noir Estate is a more red-fruited, tobacco leaf-tinged, herbal expression of this classically dark-fruited, saline-driven western Sta. Rita Hills estate site. The palate combines elegance, precision, ripeness and stuffing, transitioning to a concentrated yet pure and lifted finish. This is a fittingly beautiful entryway into some of the most serious yet approachable wines of Santa Barbara County. WINE ADVOCATE

The 2022 Pinot Noir (Sta. Rita Hills) is airy, gracious and understated. Dried herbs, mint, crushed flowers, cedar and tobacco all run through this perfumed, layered Pinot. The floral and savoy style is so typical of these wines. Aeration brings out lovely mid-palate richness and pliancy to round things out. There's plenty of charm and immediacy here. ANTONIO GALLONI

The 2022 Pernand-Vergelesses Les Vergelesses 1er Cru has a notably perfumed bouquet with redcurrant and raspberry fruit, wild heather and touches of potpourri. The palate is medium-bodied and very harmonious, with a fine bead of acidity and a degree of precision on the finish that does the appellation proud. Quality winemaking here—this comes highly recommended. NEAL MARTIN

A little iron in the soil here. North-east of the appellation, near Clos Myglands and La Framboisière. Plain south-facing, the soil a little red from the iron.
Ooh - now that's a beauty - a more sophisticated width of complex and attractive flavour. In the mouth - fresh and energetic - really complex - a little more blocky from the tannin today - this will also benefit from your patience but the finishing flavour, working its way through the tannin is completely delicious. Really a personality here. Very good but with much potential to improve. BILL NANSON

Certified biodynamic. Light to mid crimson. Smells of little wild cherries, open and expressive. Firm and chewy texture holds all this lovely fruit in shape. Complete, satisfying and full in the mouth yet still very fresh. Needs time. JULIA HARDING

A notably more floral-suffused nose features distinctly earthy and ripe aromas of various dark berries, especially cherry, along with hints of kirsch and the sauvage. There is a lovely sense of underlying tension to the beautifully textured, if not particularly dense, medium-bodied flavors that exhibit moderate warmth and rusticity. From 50+ year old vines in the climat Sur les Grèves, this is one of the top-tier vineyards of Beaune admired for its power, structure and age ability thanks to the steep slope and reddish soils infused with iron oxide.
A riper if less refined and airy nose speaks of red and dark currant aromas that are laced with newly turned earth, exotic tea and an interesting hint of orange peel. There is better volume to the medium-bodied flavors that display good power and mid-palate density before culminating in a youthfully austere, firm and nicely balanced finale. This is consistently one of the domaine's better wines and so it is again in 2021. OUTSTANDING, BURGHOUND

…. The nose is very pleasing, all in red fruit with a little white pepper, whereas the other cuvees have all been more floral. Very lively on the palate, with typical Grèves structural qualities and an abundance of fruit to return behind. JASPER MORRIS MW

The 2020 Château Coutet is flat-out gorgeous, with a concentrated, powerful style in its caramelized orange, honeyed flowers, pineapple upside down cake, and toasty, spicy nuances. Rich, full-bodied, concentrated, and layered, it nevertheless stays focused, pure, and precise, with laser-like precision and vibrancy on the palate. This tour de force in Sauternes is going to pretty much just knock your socks off over the coming two decades. (97) JEB DUNNUCK

A signature Coutet nose with burnt orange, caramelised peaches and floral flecks. Thick and intense, really lovely weight on the palate, deep yet juicy with high acidity that gives a tang to the palate. Lovely layers of sweetness, acidity and richness - concentrated and intense. Classy and stylish as always. Not as dazzling at this point as the 2019 was but this is still a lovely wine with plenty of enjoyment on offer. (95) DECANTER

The 2020 Coutet has a pale lemon-gold color, waltzing out of the glass with energetic notes of lemon tart, pink grapefruit, green mango and lime blossoms, with hints of chopped almonds, clover honey, candle wax and straw, plus a waft of sea spray. The palate is all class, featuring ethereal intensity and amazing poise, enveloped in a satiny texture and seamless acidity, finishing long and mineral laced. Currently, while it is just a tick or so down on the impressive 2019, I love the restraint and energy of this 2020 and wouldn't be surprised if it eventually spreads its wings and surpasses its showier sibling over time (96) WINE ADVOCATE

A triumph for the vintage with spices, dried mushroom, dried pineapple, peaches, and honey. Full and sweet with bright acidity and a long, intense finish. Powerful wine. This could be the best Coutet ever. JAMES SUCKLING

The Coutet 2009 is a sensational effort from Philippe Baly and his team. It has a fragrant nose of honey, vervain tea, pineapple, frangipane and apple-blossom, well defined if needing a little more vigour at the moment. The palate is vibrant on the entry, informed by touches of apricot and orange peel, very focused and tensile towards the long, sensuous, viscous finish. It has the same minerality exuded by Doisy-Daene and reminds me of a stellar '62 tasted just a few weeks previously. A magnificent Coutet. (98) NEAL MARTIN

Intense exotic fruits abound, powerful apricot, nectarine, white flowers and white truffles with excellent bitter almonds on the finish that works so well as a counterpoint to the luxurious texture. I love this, silky and seductive yet strict. (97) DECANTER, tasted 2020

One of the top sweet wines in this report is the 2016 Château Coutet, which has the vintage's plush, opulent style as well as thrilling purity and good acids. Pineapple, white flowers, sugared peach, and honeyed notes all emerge from this full-bodied, layered, balanced Barsac that's already impossible to resist yet will evolve gracefully 2+ decades. The vibrant, tropical fruit-coulis character draws you into this concentrated and elegant Barsac. Then the crisp acidity and a wave of lemon and mineral character comes through, driving the finish out in the direction of the horizon. (95) JAMES SUCKLING

Oh that's lovely. Ginger and sumac spice, and a gorgeous richness with the perfect balance of minerality. Rich but pure botrytis character and gently curling smoky notes leap out of the glass. Amazing persistency, easily one of the best wines in the tasting. This is excellent; succulent and mouthwatering. (96) DECANTER

With coaxing, the pale lemon colored 2016 Coutet slowly unfurls to give a myriad of preserved lemons, pineapple pastry, almond croissant, fresh ginger and lime blossoms scents with nuances of chalk dust, white pepper, star anise and cedar. Rich, seductive and yet exquisitely balanced, the satiny-textured palate has layer upon layer of citrus and savory notions, finishing very long and spicy. (97) WINE ADVOCATE

This is the first wine to display much wood influence and there is a mentholated top note to the peppery red and dark pinot fruit aromas. Once again there is very good volume and excellent vibrancy to the sleek and delicious medium weight flavors that display good balance on the sappy and dusty finish. This has enough development potential to reward up to a decade of cellaring.  BURGHOUND

I loved the touch of austerity and limestone drying quality in this wine. Quite serious and detailed in it's way. For the money, it's really smart Burgundy. MICHAEL MCNAMARA

The 2022 Pinot Noir leads with coffee grounds, black cherry, satsuma plum skin, Szechuan peppercorn, pink peppercorns, a hint of raspberry leaf tea and graphite. The wine smells savory while delivering all of these things. In the mouth, it is fine-boned but persistent and behaves in a gentle, splayed sort of manner through the finish. It's a very pretty wine, one that is quiet now, but I feel it will age slowly and elegantly in the cellar. This is a wine to drink now and to perhaps misunderstand in doing so. Or it's a wine to be patient with and reap the benefits after five or so years and beyond. I love the wine here, today, but I'd be cautious to recommend drinking your bottles too early—consider from 2027. ERIN LARKIN, Wine Companion
